Ok, I'm a little confused so I would love if someone could clear this up. Vivien is playing Amanda who is marrying/ed Victor and Olivier is playing Elliot who is marrying/ed Sybil? Is that right?
LOVELY. Gawd I adore these two. I wish someone would post a scene of the Norma Shearer version of Private Lives. Everyone says how good it is bout i cant afford to buy it! Take pitty on a poor soul!
LOL Vivien cracks me up. Why are they calling each other different names? LMAO THESE TWO ARE SO FUNNY!!! Here I was sitting here having trouble waking up this morning. What is this though, a radio show or what? I need to buy this.
On August 30 Olivier and Leigh were married in Santa Barbara, California, in a ceremony attended only by their witnesses, Katharine Hepburn and Garson Kanin.
In February 1940, Jill Esmond agreed to divorce Olivier, and Holman also agreed to divorce Leigh, although they maintained a strong friendship for the rest of Leigh's life. Esmond was granted custody of Tarquin, her son with Olivier, and Holman was granted custody of Suzanne, his daughter with Leigh
O my God! What a treasure! It's brilliant! They would've been so great in it on stage! What year is this recording from? Thanks so much for uploading!
Impossible. She got into showbiz when she was about twenty, twenty-one, which would be approximately 1933/34. She would have to be sixteen or seventeen if this was done in 1930.
Laurence Olivier did the original version of this play. This radio play is NOT the original version, In the original staged version, Noel Coward and Gertrude Lawrence played Elyot and Amanda, and Laurence Olivier and his then-wife Jill Esmond played the dweeby spouses Victor and Sybil. Olivier was not even very well-known at that time. This recording is a radio play (from the 1940s, maybe?) when Olivier and Leigh were a couple and quite well-known. They sound awesome, yes?.

My all time favorite actors and topic. Scarlett and Heathcliff. Would have loved to have seen the movie clip.

This is awesome! This seems like a funny play. :)
Listening to Vivien and Larry are great...they were a wonderful couple. :)
Does anyone know if a film version of this play ever was made?

the reason they're calling each other different names is because they're not playing themselves--doing noel coward's play private lives.

The CD does not state what year this was aired. I would have to say the mids 40's. :O)
