  • Hi rich, I own a 02 sl2 , when reconnecting the trans cooler Lines , do you need to apply any thead sealant or any thing special ,thank you

  • @karlakatie1522 No sealer needed the end of the flare of the line does the sealing.

  • yeah !!! went to Starbucks this morning. When I restarted with the AC on I still had a little bogging. Runs much much better and smoother with the new radiator though. Thanks Rich. I think I saved at least 2-3 grand in labor with all your videos !!!!!

  • Well i did it. What a noticeable difference !!!!! I have not experienced any bogging with the A.C on like I mentioned before. Maybe the bogging had something to do with the radiator and transmission cooler lines.

  • @MrRaiders6769 Now your all set for the next ten years or so.

  • the one question I have with this replacement is if there is something special I need to do when refilling with coolant to keep air bubbles from getting trapped inside the radiator.

  • @MrRaiders6769 This is one of the cars that i have not had any trouble in the past with trapped air after refilling the cooling system. On some vehicles i remove the top radiator hose from the radiator and fill as much as i can then fill to the proper level in the tank if it has one.

  • I just bought an aftermarket radiator as I will follow your world famous video step by step. Yeah I`m over the tuck rule game. I had Brady on my CC times NFL.com fantasy football team and he was very consistent and I won the championship. Plus my pre-season picks were New England and Green Bay so I`ll stick with that.

  • Good Morning Rich !!! I developed a small leak of coolant around the top tranny line housing. Is this common in automatic S-Series ? I tried stop leak a few times and seems to be getting worst Do you recommend replacing radiator or can I repair the leak ? My Raiders are out so Go Patriots !!!!!!!!!!! Thanks

  • @MrRaiders6769 Very common on the s-series.What happens is the plastic tank on the left side bulges out and cracks. The radiator has to be replaced.I can not believe a raiders fan would route for the Patriots.Brady only has a few more years to play so i would like to see him get one more before he is done.I am still not over what happen in 07.

  • yes it is. needle on the temp gauge passed the the 1/2 mark. coolant started boiling in the resovoir also.i thot fan should turn on regardless if the heater is on full blast. i did put in new coolant. the car runs fine. the fan just wont turn on. is there another sensor that tells the fan when to switch on?

  • @drewomondi The engine coolant temp sensor tells the computer when to turn the fan on.

  • @richpin06a anyway to check if the sensor is functioning?

  • @drewomondi Yes i use a scan tool.

  • successfully replaced radiator but fan wont work. how would one diagnose and fix that? wire connection to the fan was fixed well. help please!

  • @drewomondi How did you diagnose that the fan does not work.

  • @richpin06a. Turned on the car and put the heater on full blast but the fan does not turn on. Followed some of your other videos on checking the fan. Benchtested the fan by connecting directly to a battery source and it did work. Used a fuse jumper at the fan relay socket and the fan turned on. so i switched out the fan relay but still the fan does not turn on. any other things i should check? also how long could i temporarily use the fuse jumper to power the fan as i try to fix the problem.

  • @drewomondi What year model and make vehicle are you working on.Are you getting voltage and ground at the connector at the blower.

  • @richpin06a 1999 sl2. tested for voltage and ground at the connector, and both are good. could it be the thermostat?

  • @drewomondi Is the engine getting hot enough for the fan to come on 226deg

  • Thank you, this was a LIFESAVOR!!

  • Good Morning Rich. I noticed some coolant on my drive way after letting my car idle until it reaches proper temp. The leak is coming from the connection of the octagon shaped housing of the metal pipe to the radiator which is directly under the driver side radiator hose. the leak is a very slow drip for 3 minutes during a cold start then increases up to a very thin steady stream as the engine heats up. Is what is weird is that I get no puddle when I park from a normal drive. Idle only

  • @richpin06a thanks man your the 1 =D

  • @richpin06a i tried this but wasnt successful due to not being able to get off the bottom cooler line from the tranny. i tried hard but i stripped the bolt completly off. those things must be made out of cheap aluminum or something. SO do you think i can jus get another cooler line, and if so do the top cooler line, and bottom cooler line differ in size length?

  • @omarG19100 They are available online for $16. from GetSaturnParts.

  • @richpin06a the line right under the top hose shown in 7:36 of this video.

  • @richpin06a i have the automatic version and im goin to swap the radiator but just tho make sure. You know the two ports on the side of the radiator where the top hose is for? I assume the bottom one is for the tranny line, but theres another one at the top as well. they say the radiator i bought fits manual and automatic. what is the top port for?

  • @omarG19100 There are two cooler lines ports on the radiator.

  • just did this today. probably took about 5 hours for me. i changed the transmission filter too. the toughest part was either getting the fan past the a/c lines, or reattaching the transmission cooler lines back to the new radiator. i don't think i tightened it enough. if i got a leak can i just refill the fluid as needed?

  • @jdilla007 If it is a very small leak you could do that otherwise i would try and fix it.

  • I knocked this job out this afternoon. Took about 3 hrs. I dropped the air cond condenser about 5 times but my air is still good for now so hopefully no leaks later. My little tip to hold things together is to use duct tape. After I thought of it I used it to hold the air condenser and radiator together until I could get the bolts in. I also changed my hoses. I thought about doing the thermostat too but once I got started I forgot about it. Anyway, you rock Rich!

  • I'll be doing this job this weekend. While driving home yesterday I saw the coolan level light blinking. Continued to drive ti home since the car was staying cool. Discovered the level was indeed low in the reservoir. Looked around and saw a long crack on the side of the radiator where the upper hose connects. Seems like I could get some J-B Weld type stuff to cover the crack until I can replace the radiator. I also plan to clean the throttle body too since my accel pedal is sticking.

  • thanx richpin. your videos help me out a lot. just did the radiator today.

  • @welderkev That's what i like to hear.

  • i love every single video of your saturn. I have a saturn 97 sl

  • rich i really like those cars (and i love the color of yours) i think the clear headlights with the amber turn signals really set them off, are those on newer models?

  • @ipodtouchfan221 Yes that is the look on the 00-02 models

  • I did this about 2 weeks ago on my single cam. It was first time doing it and I was totally unprepared when it came to the tranny lines. I just lifted the lines up and zip tied them to another hose in the engine bay. I think you'd be able to clamp them shut too.

MAKE SURE YOU DO THIS OR YOU'LL HAVE A MESS ON YOUR HANDS (Actually the ground =P).

For the firs time me doing this it took about an hour. Good job as always Rich!

  • Hey Richpin, when I did this about a month ago, when you take the radiator out, the (i think condensor? behind it?) was basically only held up w/ the bolts used on the radiator.

I used some spare jack stands to just stand the thing up while I removed the radiator and that worked OK

I also used the new clipys from the aftermarket radiator on the new one and it worked out just fine length wise.

Can't remember the brand but it was a cheap one

  • nice video. Thanks.

  • Rich, First rate video. I'm always amazed at your ability to deal with all the plastic clamps you run across. You open/remove them with ease. There are times when I try to open a clamp and I don't have a clue how to start...

Please keep this excellent video coming! RL

  • Great video rich. Did your car over heat and crack the radiator? That's what happened here we think. The motor form Autozone was slightly too big, so we can do grind it down with a drill bit and hammer the fan motor in.

Last question, is the A/C evap behind the glove box? That's what it looks like in the vid of your heater core replacement vid, thanks. I have to run a thermostat temp sensor to it

  • @studpuppy69 The car did not overheat i changed it out when it started to weep out a crack on the tank.On the Ford Escort the evaporator is behind the glove box.
