This is how evolution works. Mutations happen. They are random. They are mostly neutral. Some are strictly good (rare) while some are strictly bad. (rare) Most mutations are neutral and whether they are good or bad highly depends on the environment they are currently situated in. This includes the types of predators that may be present in that given environment. If a creature who has a detrimental mutation, that creature often dies before reproduction.
Actually evolution does have something to do with how life began because in order to understand evolution you have to trace it back through time. Especially when Evolution states that entirely new species can develop from existing species if given enough time. And I don't mean a new breeds of animals like dogs and cats, but what Evolution states is you can take a chicken, and given enough time could potentially develop into a sentient being capable of flying spaceships and driving cars.

There are different theories of "common-origin evolution" that as the speaker discussed, vary in small details. I for instance am not a supporter of the gradual neo-darwinain theory, but follow the more logical approcah as explained by punctuated equlibrium. To my rationale, it is a much better explanation for the current set of factual data at hand.

Well the link between dinosaurs and birds has those missing links that creationists so love to be blind to. The small dinosaurs that evolved feathers (from more basic feather like structures) had an advantage, so had more reproductive success, this plus lots of time gives us birds. A theory is something that "explains" and "interprets" facts??? Their lies the problem... An explanation to a fact might sound plausible, logical,and even credible, but still erroneous. As well as interpreting of facts... Could it be possible the those who are doing the research MISINTERPRET the data? This is how evolution works. Mutations happen. They are random. They are mostly neutral. Some are strictly good (rare) while some are strictly bad. (rare) Most mutations are neutral and whether they are good or bad highly depends on the environment they are currently situated in. This includes the types of predators that may be present in that given environment. If a creature who has a detrimental mutation, that creature often dies before reproduction.

Actually evolution does have something to do with how life began because in order to understand evolution you have to trace it back through time. Especially when Evolution states that entirely new species can develop from existing species if given enough time. And I don't mean a new breeds of animals like dogs and cats, but what Evolution states is you can take a chicken, and given enough time could potentially develop into a sentient being capable of flying spaceships and driving cars.

For example. in RNA, Uracil + Uracil + Uracil creates the same amino acid as Uracil, Uracil, and Cytosine. UCU, UCC, UCA, UCG all create the same amino acids and have the same effect. The same goes with CCU/CCG/CCA/CCC creates the same exact amino acid. The amount of different allele variations is very limited, but we are able to get the diversity of life we see today.

I just dislike how so many advocates of such an amazing field use the lump term evolutionary theory. There are different theories of "common-origin evolution" that as the speaker discussed, vary in small details. I for instance am not a supporter of the gradual neo-darwinain theory, but follow the more logical approcah as explained by punctuated equlibrium. To my rationale, it is a much better explanation for the current set of factual data at hand.

Well the link between dinosaurs and birds has those missing links that creationists so love to be blind to. The small dinosaurs that evolved feathers (from more basic feather like structures) had an advantage, so had more reproductive success, this plus lots of time gives us birds. The fact that such a well known link is blind to you does not count well towards your knowledge.
Domesticated digs are all one species, which is why they can breed and give rise to fertile offspring.

Well put together. clarifies a lot of misconceptions about evolution. However you are forgetting that Einstein killed empiricism when he discovered that matter and energy are the same thing. We are no longer the lonely result of billions of years of natural selection. The more you delve into quantum theory the clearer it becomes that we do not have the entire picture. This is the age of certain uncertainty. The simplest of living organisms cannot be made out of purely chemicals and energy.

Having recently taken cellular biology and bioinformatics (the study of the human genome data base and computer skills to search the data) I would have to say that comments here are off the mark to say they prove evolution. They simply prove that life complex beyong anything imagined in Darwin's time. The data in itself will be open to interpreting according to the BIAS of the interpreter and won't matter at all to the recipient of a cure to disease whether it was an evolutionary or ID scientist

I could get into a rant about how powerful a tool this can be (ala the Nylong Eating Bacteria), but that's not the point. A gene duplication is an example of a mutation which increases genetic information.

This again is wrong. Most mutations are NEUTRAL. Keep in mind the genetic code is triplicate, which means that three different 3-unit codes of the 4 bases code for the EXACT SAME amino acid, and result in NO CHANGE.
On top of that, enourmous sections of our DNA is "junk" DNA, which codes for no protein.
So, mutations often happen in unimportant DNA, and do nothing, or they may result in no change in function.

2). Speciation occur a variety of ways, though the most common scenario involves some form of reproductive isolation. How that comes about is purely contextual: maybe a plant has a gene duplication event that prevents it from reproducing with other plants, or maybe an animal swims to an Island. Genetically speaking, speciation occurs exactly like any other form of heredity occurs. I suggest you find a college level text book on evolution, and read the discussions of speciation.

But you're talking about isolation (inbreeding) which creates a loss of genetic information rather than an increase, creating (sorry, no pun intended) new information...also 99.9% of all mutations are harmful/terminal to the species, anyways so how does this advance or benefit evolution??? Particularly with so much of the presumed advancement so dependant upon an irreducable complexity.

This is really simple. Explain the complexity of biological machines at the molecular level and then we can all get behind evolution and "it just happened randomly due to environmental factors". I think when the theory of evolution stops evolving then we can get behind it too.

I am positive that life forms have the ability to adapt to the environment. What I have a problem with is the evolution of evolution. Why is it now "well, it must have happened in huge steps instead of how Darwin said it happened", etc, etc. Why is it hard to believe that the most simple biomachine is so elegant that it must have been designed?

I am a software engineer and after years of designing systems from the machine language level to higher level languages, I can say 100% that in no way shape or form does information organize itself. We can write software that mimics evolution and adapts and even simulates evolution in nature... well shit, that software was DESIGNED.

yes I watched the video and congratulations you did a very good job. Even though national geographic is so desperate to brainwash the world into believing evolution they spent 80,000 dollars on a fraudulent fossil and ended up admitting to it. Anyway:
Simply saying "selection is not random" doesn't cut it. If it is not random, what is the guiding force behind it? Evolution is random as its core, to say otherwise is to say there is a guiding hand in it.

well the NG fraud happened when a Chinese farmer (I believe) simply glued a couple pieces of one fossil onto another and sold it to NG for 80,000 dollars to pass as a transaction of a dinosaur to a bird. It was denounced as fraud. I was simply revealing the bias of NG.

I don't claim to know what guides physics, but here's my point: You claim that a creationist is stupid for believing in God even though they have no idea. But why is it ok to claim you believe evolution is guided even though you have no idea what guides it? And by naturalistic I mean that everything just happens: cause effect cause effect etc. If there is no God or ID, there is no guiding hand, everything just happens by chance, or, is random.

I guess we've just hit a wall here. We're going around in circles. When I say "guide" I mean like a physical or invisible FORCE that is consciously guiding the process with intelligence. I'm saying if this conscious force does not exist, then the process is random and strictly relies on chance, hence the word naturalism.
