That last message was intended to answer that question: No, you can't see the laser beams in the air (unless you're in a very smoky environment). Normally, what you see will be very much like what's shown in the video -- except for one thing: In the video, the light appears 'white' but in reality, the light looks like a bright red.
Actually seeing the laser beams as they streak through the air is a nice effect -- but of course in normal circumstances, you only see the light where it hits an object ... unless you are playing in a very smoky room ... which is not recommended, for health reasons :)
Khet the original didn't have a Sphinx it only had a small laser opening on the side where you press a red button. Khet 2.0 has a Sphinx as the laser.
Been reading Dave Gorman's book Dave Gorman vs the world where he goes round the uk playing different games with strangers and he seemed to particularly enjoy khet so have been really intrigued by it! Will defo have to get a set looks wonderful!
I originally saw this on vat19, but I watched this video and you explained the game very well! Im thinking about buying it to give as a gift for some friends of mine
@AncientChess i guess the only things different are that the figures look a bit different, that you don't have that many figures to block the laser, that you can't stack some figures like you could on the first game so that you had to hit it two times in order to completely remove it from the playfield and that the lasers can be moved in two different directions. in the original khat game the lasers are mounted in the playfield.
so khat 2.0 lookes better but khat 1.0 is more fun to play i guess.
1)The lazer: On the original, the laser was built into the board, and only shot in one direction, it could not rotate like in the video.
2)The anubis: in the original there were 4 blockers on each side instead (might have had a different name). You could stack them so you could double the protection. At the same time, none of the sides were safe, if they were hit, they were off the board.
Those are the only major differences that I can tell of

The sphinx is never captured. It is the permanent laser source throughout the game.

@AncientChess There are a few subtle differences.

@AncientChess For one thing, it has walls so you can see the laser on the walls. and the laser was built into the wall, so it couldn't turn

@AncientChess Also, there were two more of the things by the pharoahs, and they usually stacked two on each side
