With her language ability and work experience, she can certainly assist Ma to build a better Taiwan for the future generations. She shouldn't underestimate the power of "spouse of the president" can do. It's always easier to be "passive' and be your old self than being someone who can "make changes".
with the right amount of salary, respect and power, Ma can hire ppl that are WAY more experienced than her. i say let her be. as long as her safty is in no concern, i wouldn't mind our first lady working in a firm.
disagree. not a good典範 to me at all due to her naivety and narrow-minded vision.
She apparently decided to be a "passive" 1st lady but an "active" working lady. She also confused about the role as a presidential spouse.
1. she wanted to be the old herself, then she shall decline the body guards as they are there to closely protect the 1st lady not Chou MayChing, a bystander. She cannot have it the both ways.
(note:Body Guards are there to protect president because the president is working for us and is holding the most important position in a nation.)
2. She didnot understand the need to stand at the level of a 1st lady to see things. She is clean and non-corrupt, but very unseasoned and even as naive as a teen ager on this matter.
Sooner or later, she will be a negative point to ma's administration if no one dares to teach her how to grow out of her old world.
As a 1st lady, she definitely can have her own carrier, not at her personal level, but at the national level, which in return will become her very own legend after she steps down.
"a working lady" vs "a spousal vase"? vs "a woman with grand vision and big love"?
To Extend her contributions to a single work place or to the many families that could be touched by her contributions? "big love vs small love".
Rather than doing traditional charities, she can forge a new genre in charity community. Unlike the old "giving fish method", a modern charity should provide a "how to fish channel" for kids who are in the left-side of M-shaped society.
I am disappointed that this subject was only touched at the level of working-or-not, of be-yourself-or-not.
Standing on the shoulder of the most popular 1st lady, there are so many aspects she can devote herself to. The impact of it could be so much bigger than just being a working lady.
Government fund will be limited especially during economic downtime, constructive and productive charities should enter the equation of helping the less fortunate people ...this is a very imperative, difficult and challenge job. No such spousal-vase problem...
To give fish is relative easy and will definitely succeed as long as the money is sufficient, but to teach fishing skill is challenging and no guaranty success.
In my opinion, Chou Mei-ching should be allowed time and space to settle into this new phase. Change is necessary but can also be gradual. I trust a lady as wise as she is, will find the balance. We shouldn't expect her to make all the decisions at one time, especially it's only been 3 days since the biggest change happened in her life, in Ma's life and in Taiwan's national destiny too.
Give her time and space to adjust to this huge change. She must be quite overwhelmed, even though she always seems cool and all together. We need to have confidence in her making sensible and balanced decisions. We as the general public should be careful not to impose our expectation for a president on his spouse, the first lady. They play different roles and the importance of their roles is differnt too.
I'm concerned that she continues to ruminate the problem only at the personal level. She thought she had already avoid the conflict of interest. But what she did so far is just the very basic--grade C (not even B-), if you will in any class.
Things are double-edged. She is clean, but also appears to be solitary as a recluse.
Solitude, without consulting with other's wisdom, is bad and is another form of "egocentric" that was used to described A-Bian, the outgoing president.
