  • Carl Sagan and Vangelis simply lift us into a new dimension! It breaks my heart yet simultaneously gives courage to continue working for a lovelier future

For me, just so want to be 'star stuff' now.

  • Absolutely incredible

  • I can listen to this over and over again

  • So many emotions in one piece.

  • Here I am a grown man and I break into tears every time I hear this song. It encompasses all of my hopes and aspirations for humanity, that we choose life and reach for the stars.

  • WRONG! This isn't the theme for Cosmos. This is the full song by Vangelis. Misleadingly titled video.

  • Lets hope the next generation of Scientists be like Sagan..then we can change the World.

  • The best theme in the series. This tune is pure cosmos.

  • this song always makes me cry... especially because I was only four when Iwatched this series and I was with all my family, now my dad is dead, my brothers are far away...and Carl Sagan is dead too. So emotional

  • Beautiful and admired!

  • Hey, Christian friend. We die because it allows us to get better, to keep growing.

  • One parkinson's disease patient missed the like button

  • 0:45 Manly tears will be shed.

  • Every time i would watch the Cosmos at 0 :47 i would look at my girl (wife) smile and hum.. Re.. Reeeee! lol love it!

  • ME SUAVIZA LA CONCIENCIA OIR ESTE TEMA

  • Absolutely AWE INSPIRING!!!

  • is it me or is it not ironic that this song is 4:20? like this if you undertand my reference lol

  • @cuaper There is comment pointing this out which is already 'liked' :)

  • @cuaper Only a pothead would notice that.lol

  • @cuaper Its not ironic, its coincidental.

  • makes me think of you God.

  • @soulerflare7 it makes me think of Carl Sagan too.

  • @OrderoftheWhiteHand Carl Sagan was a cool guy but def not my God. Did Carl rise from the dead ? I worship the living not the dead.

  • @soulerflare7 Neil DeGrasse Tyson is alive, do you worship him?

  • @soulerflare7 Well, soul..., not all of us have the same beliefs (which sad fact has caused much of the tragic bloodshed in our world's history), but this Vangelis theme does touch us down to our souls. I am not a formally religious person, but I do believe that there is something greater than myself. This should not be important to you, only to me. Let us share our appreciation of "Cosmos" and of Vangelis.

  • @ja3399 I believe I was sharing my appreciation for the Cosmos theme. If this song makes me think of the creator of the universe then so be it. God is AWESOME !!!!!!

  • my mum was buried with her fav tune this, the cosmos,no smart comebacks please.

  • @antonyvt a beautiful act of love for your mom.

  • i love Carl Sagan, he show me my mum and dad, the door and we walk though,i was 8 then, now i teach it.

  • I am a christian, but sagan is my hero. Why did he have to die???

  • beautiful beautiful beautiful

this sounds weird, but this song makes me feel closer to carl sagan whenever i hear it

  • This title track always kinda hits me, (in my heart).

  • "i believe our future depends powerfully on how well we understand this cosmos, in wich we float like a mote of dust in the morning sky"

  • "Imagination will often carry us to worlds that never were, but without it we go nowhere."

  • to live in the hearts we leave behind is to never die.

  • @goreziad I love how people watch this video and start posting inspiration stuff, lol. Excellent :)

  • @goreziad Indeed, Sagan will never die.

I feel bad for him not being Immortal, as James Randi said whilst talking about Sagan in a "vlog lookalike" he said that, if there was a life after death, he knew that sagan was flying about in the universe getting to know everything thatt he didn't know when he left our unknowing world. The respect i harbour for Sagan is immense. If there is a person who diserves immortality, it's Sagan.

  • @goreziad Yes, goreziad, you are right. You state this better than I have ever heard....

  • Simply amazing music. True story: I was about four when Cosmos was at the height of its popularity and one day announced to my mother that I was going to be Dr. Carl Sagan when I grew up. She wrote him a letter sharing the story and got a personal response and a picture of the solar system in return. The letter said he looked forward to seeing me at Cornell in about 15 years. It's one of my most prized possessions.

  • We shall get a second chance.

  • Have this as my ring tone. Yea, I mostly let it go to voice mail cause I love hearing the song so much :) It's simply beautiful.

  • At 0:45 when that high pitched overtone comes in... I lose it. Completely.

  • @cephalapodia Yeah! Me too.. The other day, when i was coming home from work, on the bus, i listened to this song and at 00:45 i closed my eyes lool it's such an inspiring song!

  • This song, really transports you to the Universe... I don't know, sometimes, after a joint, i sit down, on the dark, hearing this song, and letting the mind go to wherever it wants in the Universe, and everything goes so quick, the journey is immense... it's such a humble feeling... Thinking about how small we are.... and how that makes us special! We're like atoms in the Universe, the galaxies are the molecules, and the rest, a vast living Organism!!! Long live Music and Life! Peace to you all!

  • @Senseless00 beautiful comment actually, and i do the exact same thing

  • @walktwisted really? :) It's amazing... i think most people have the curiositty to experience something mystical. A big hug my friend.

  • @Senseless00 indeed man, and right back at you

  • Carl Sagan is amazing, imortalised in his works; his books and Cosmos series and other video records made, he's truly a teacher for all the human kind and the billions and billions of people to come. His message and ideas should be wide spread and we must never fall in the trap of ignorance and never let the world fall in a dark age

  • smoke weed erryday !

    we miss you carl ;_;

  • i have 14 years , and Cosmos is perfect serie , carl sagan a hero , and my start to write a book ;) for universe

  • Carl is a human to aspire to be like.

  • Damn.

This is what we'd should do to pacify a military zone: broadcast this song.

How can they be aggressive after that ...

  • When I hear this piece, I think of only three words, "Thank you Carl."

  • 420

  • Whenever I hear this song, a knot is done to me in the throat, it me comes to my mind nice recollections of my infancy contemplating the universe, in company of our dear teacher Carl Sagan, where you want that this we will remember you forever, regards Carl a strong embrace, I wait to meet some day where the time is not an obstacle

  • uffff... beatiful music... ever !!!

  • Mr. Sagan:

    Wherever you're...

    Greetings from México, Tenochtitlán...

    Miss you!!!

  • so quiet and beautiful

  • Please forgive me, fellow Saganites, for I am not worthy, but what is the significance of the number 420 in relation to Cosmos and Carl Sagan?

  • @Astrosimi

    He was a marijuana advocate.

  • Carl Sagan was an amazing man, and he did something that no one else did. He explained the way the world and the universe and all of nature works in a way that everyone could understand. Carl Sagan was a great man and i love his work.

  • I have never heard that part before 0:34 - I had the cassette and the part beforehand was not on the soundtrack. I was in 7th grade when this series was on, loved everything about it including the music. Thanks for posting!

  • The best way to watch Cosmos is with red eyes and a dry mouth.

  • Carl Sagan is a great man whose touched the lives of millions of people. Rest in peace, Dr. Sagan.

  • I didn't even know Carl's name until ten years after his death, but he has touched my life, and the lives of many others. Billions and billions of others.

  • Hail Carl Sagan, the world's best astronomer!

  • 420

May there be an all-you-can-smoke marijuana buffet for you in atheist heaven, Carl Sagan.

  • How it's possible to miss someone you've never met before is beyond me, but I truly do miss his presence on this pale blue dot :'(

    RIP Carl Sagan

  • Why is it that every time I hear this song, ever since I was 8 years old and now 34, I still have the very same feeling I am getting closer to something far greater than myself. And, not to mention, I was a child in Mexico and ,unbeknownst, I would ever go to Purde.

  • @CosmosFan1 where did u get the artwork? if only i can make music and make art like that

  • Sagan is my hero. And I love that this video is 4:20 long.

  • lol, hadn't noticed!

  • @CosmosFan1 Whats special About the Video length?

  • @Budzi08 It coincides with the national "smoke weed" day (4/20). Sagan was known to have smoked pot when writing some of his essays. But I assure you, this was completely accidental! =]

  • @CosmosFan1 Amazing! He smoked pot?! Now i have a feeling of obligation to smoke as well, yes.... even more!!!! hehehehe

  • @Budzi08 It's also a play on the answer of life, the universe and everything!

  • @starstuff100

"Sagan is my hero." Dito, RIP Sagan!

    [literally, a tear just formed...]

  • @starstuff100 nice

  • whenever i hear this song i feel like im at peace...............(sigh) R.I.P carl sagan, may u now fly forever and see the universe for yourself...........

  • For some reason, I always hear Carl Sagan's voice when I hear this.

  • OMG! Vangelis did this? I always thought it sounded like Chariots of Fire in a way. This song always makes me well up a little. And Vangelis is my favorite composer.

  • Watching Cosmos gives me chills. Wish you were still here Carl.

  • simply amazing 5/5

  • Carl!

    MY FAVORITE HUMAN!

He makes our species look GREAT!

    RIP!

  • He praises the life and work of our dear teacher, thanks to you Carl, I have learned to love the cosmos, thanks friend where you want that you are, wait to meet some day.

  • I hope that for carl sagan's sake, there is a heaven. i donnt believe in god, but if he does exist, i know that carl sagan is right there with the greatest

  • No need to "curse you out," but I'd love to know how you can be so certain??? And if your certainty is so infallible, could you please tell me if the tooth fairy also exists?

  • Present the basis for this statement or GTFO.

  • @MrAgentx240 How could a figment of your limited imagination from that wasted accumulation of cells in your head possibly even formulate the actual meaning of what it is that you believe in and its implications? I'd enjoy it if you took the time to try to elaborate on this, yet obviously to no avail.

  • Prove it. Prove that god exists.

Just saying it's true doesn't make it true.

    Evidence, or it didn't happen.

  • @justforflag2 then prove 2 me how the big bang started. believe it or not, scientists r still arguing what really started our universe. 4 all we know, the universe could be a byproduct from extrterrestials from different universes mixing their universes together. oh well, i guess everyone thinks im wrong. truce? (im 4 real so dont think im lying)

  • @MrAgentx240

I'm sorry, did I ever mention the big bang?

I also have doubts about it.

    But there is evidence.

For one, all galaxies are moving away from each other. In addition, we also have cosmic microwave background radiation.

I suggest you look it up.

    But don't mention science.

All I ask from you is evidence that god exists. Do you have any?

  • I always start to tear up when i hear this music.... Tell me if i'm wrong, but isn't this song officially called Heaven and Hell? God, i wish i could find sheet music for this..... I'd kill for it

  • beautiful. thanks for the upload!

  • Great! Carl Sagan is such an idol to me =)

  • Incridible! The Best! I Love Carl Sagan!

  • How I wish Sagan was still with us. He is my hero.

  • I met him once when I was very little. He was speaking to people at a university where my learning skills were being tested. My parents took me to his lecture because he was looking so very pale they wanted me to see him before he died.

  • That is so very depressing...

  • It is even more so because I barely remember it. But at least my parents recognized that he was a truly great man.

  • You are lucky. I grow up with this Man from miles away. I learned a great deal from Him. I knew who He was by face, but never really by name till I was about 16. Oddly, my favorite movie of all time was Contact. When I first saw it I was fascinating by it and did not know why. It was not till I was 16 when I found our or realized it was Him who wrote the book that was made into a movie. "For Carl"---never knew what that meant. After that I read every book He wrote, and purchased the DVD set of C

  • Your parents did the right thing. You were honored. Most of us never got to see or meet Carl.

  • I'm sure my parents did, but I hardly remember it. I was a little kid when they took me, and it isn't easy to think back on it with crystal clarity.

  • How did i miss this!?

  • Great! I well up every time I hear this..........Time to read the Demon Haunted World.

  • Thank you for posting this mate. Tis wonderfull to hear this music again.

  • Great song, great man.

  • great song
