Death kills purpose. If we all die anyway, why do we do all this? It's not like we can regret after death. We all face the same inevitable fate, death. I had a teacher who was 50+ years old and she was finally going to get a PhD after so many years, but she's old, how much longer will she be able to use that PhD before retirement or the inevitable death? @Lukeiru Here's food for thought, how about instead of dwelling on death your entire life, and being miserable while you still have a functioning brain, you give yourself a goal and shoot for it, and if death is so inevitable and it makes everything in life pointless, why don't you look at it this way. If one dies, one can no longer use their brain, which means one will never know death, which in turn means that technically for us as an individual, we never die. So how about you get a life.
My point is what it is, food for thought. Recently, a fellow classmate of mine was about to graduate from university this month, but she all of a sudden dies in a traffic accident on her way to work. All her work gone down the drain. People mourn for her now, but will soon move on with their life and forget. Death ruins everything physical. Plus, you are implying I don't have a life which is false. Everybody has a life. It doesn't necessarily have to be apparant for it to exist. =D

This is stupid. People don't just have a purpose. They create one. The only real purpose is to live and have babies, evolution tells us this. Everything else is what we WANT it to be. Plus, we need people flipping us burgers. Pop positive psychology is a fraud and you know it. All the 'empiric' experiments done on it had correlative results, not causal ones; they were all debunked several years after being performed. Infact, the opposite has actually been shown to hold more truth to its claim..that people who are pragmatic, cynical or 'negative' have been shown to lead longer lives. I have no idea where you are getting your psychological information from.
I don't get a thrill from anything except fighting. It comes naturally but there is no possible way I could make a career out of it. I'm really thinking about my future and if I died right now it wouldn't make a shit of a difference. If I lived and did stuff I'd just get a nice job and make average money and not have any companionship at all and I would be the only person who would change from it and then I'd go to hell. I don't have a reason to live...

There are many questions to be answered about purpose. Are we born into a purpose, or do we choose one later? Is our role - soldier, mother, farmer, etc. - really our purpose? Is our purpose that endeavor which gives us the greatest psychic satisfaction? Is it really doing what comes naturally, or what gave us pleasure as a child? These questions seem rooted more in philosophy or religion than in psychology, though it's certain that we are indeed happier if we are engaged in a purpose.
deep down the purpose to life is survival..look around. everything is trying so hard to survive..stars, galaxies, earth, insects, plants, humans, cats, zebras, bacteria, ect..the main thing is survival. that's what everything is here to do..the reality to this world is that everything is here to fight for survival..once survival is achieved, then existence follows..how once choses to exist and what they chose to do while they exist, creates more purpose within the main purpose.
there may be no purpose to why we came into existence..it may have just happened the same way someone getting infested with parasitic worms seems to just happen for no reason..everything we see is pretty much random..shit just seems to happen. people and even kids in africa have been eaten alive by Siafu ants. for what reason would something like that happen?..but, even if there is no purpose to existence, we are conscious, intelligent beings, that can create our own purpose.

Purpose is such a poor word. Life has a function, not a purpose. We were not created by a conscious super-being but evolved for the simple reason that every single one of our ancestors managed to have offspring that were only similar and not identical to them. We--all life--has an intrinsic function (empowering all other life.) That's what makes life go--each bit of it just tends to empower all the others by being around to either exploit or cooperate or merely entertain. There is no mystery.

I remember when I was younger I found it natural to capture or trap animals and torturing them in a multitude of ways, I spent a great deal of my time doing that, insects, birds & toads ect. Today I use such emotions as boredom, anxiety and dread to dictate changes to myself, the choices I make, values I create and the way I consider my relationship to reality. My own individual dispares have created much dissatisfaction, but ironically this is where my motivation for life comes from

Purpose, is a double edged sword. you either serve your own or others. Most discover who they are to be only after letting go of ideas imposed on them by parents and peers in formative years. Like a sculpture chiseling away, we must remove that which serves us not, until we reveal the image of our true self within. What a tragedy it would be, if the catapillar was content not to change, so the butterfly within could never fly free. Is your happiness hollow ? maybe another path you should follow.

Of course not. 'Purpose' is a human invention, in reality it couldn't BE anything within our perceived knowledge. If it were actually there, then it couldn't be defined or understood in any way.
It's just a human idea, so within that 'human channel' you can fill it out yourself, and it wouldn't make any difference. This isn't good, but this isn't bad either. We're just here and we can live it and believe it how we want, we can enjoy it either way.

Rotting under ground. we don't remember before we were born, and we wont know we r dead.....poof and your gone. There are lots of social pressures that tell people that they have to spend 40 to 50 hours a week in a store or office, do the Ozzie and Harriet, white picket fence, 2.5 kids, 2 cars in the garage routine, and keep buying all the things that are fashionable. These social pressures keep many in cycles of misery. People are often not taught how to say no to these pressures and figure out what they really want. For many, this process of finding authenticity is not at all easy.
Abortion is never an easy choice and what right does the child have dominion over a womans body? If you woke up one day with a person plugged to your back for 9 months and would die if you unplugged him what would you be required to do? Well you wouldnt have to keep him alive but it could be immoral not to.

It took me a long time to find my purpose, but what I do is to integrate health and simplicity in my life. Once I feel vitalized, I do everything that I absolutely LOVE to do and try to make it into something that benefits society or me. My ultimate goal I suppose is to pass this initial level of superficial life onto a higher spiritual plane.

i can create all day long, i can dream up new businesses everyday. It's manifesting them that is the problem. so i've turned off my creativity because it can depress you to think of things and not see them manifest. The idea is the easy part for me. The creation is alot of work that i'm not sure if i'm willing to do. I always liked to PLAY as i child and i think i just may revert back to that. I teach the exact same philosophy on talents and childhood dreams in helping others find thier dreams. I always knew exactly what i wanted to be as a child. It was a MountainMan. My dad said it was the craziest thing he'd ever heard.

there are lots of things that make me happy. l'm most happy when i can create. i love drawing because i can draw whatever i want. when i was a kid i loved to explore everything. i dreamed of traveling the world and seeing/experiencing everything(whether they were good or bad). my parents completely killed that dream because they never let me go anywhere except school, plus they want me to be a doctor and then take care of them in their old age. now i suffer through depression.
when i was little, all i did was explore all over my house and neighborhood. i still love learning new things and exploring the world rather than trying to own it

i agree, very interesting. i think helping others is difinitly a source of happiness for me. i think our "purpose" in this life is to sincerly help one another unconditionally. specially those in need. another thing i noticed is when you are patient with others, and you don't judge people, it makes you happy and don't judge people by colour, religion or ethnicity. i swear, it works.

"The Universe provides"? This is the "Just World Hypothesis"; that the universe wouldn't have you in it if it didn't have available the happy life that you want. This is obviously false with the cadre of unavoidable suffering.

This is stupid. People don't just have a purpose. They create one. The only real purpose is to live and have babies, evolution tells us this. Everything else is what we WANT it to be. Plus, we need people flipping us burgers. It would be impossible for everyone in our society to do what their "purpose" (in the sense that she was talking about) is because there would be no one to pick fruits or clean the sewage pipes, or other crappy jobs. This lady has a harmfully romantic look on life.

Purpose is such a poor word. Life has a function, not a purpose. We were not created by a conscious super-being but evolved for the simple reason that every single one of our ancestors managed to have offspring that were only similar and not identical to them. We--all life--has an intrinsic function (empowering all other life.) That's what makes life go--each bit of it just tends to empower all the others by being around to either exploit or cooperate or merely entertain. There is no mystery.

Of course not. 'Purpose' is a human invention, in reality it couldn't BE anything within our perceived knowledge. If it were actually there, then it couldn't be defined or understood in any way.
It's just a human idea, so within that 'human channel' you can fill it out yourself, and it wouldn't make any difference. This isn't good, but this isn't bad either. We're just here and we can live it and believe it how we want, we can enjoy it either way.

We may remember Julius Cesear for taking Rome, but it was the soldiers who stormed the ramparts. It took me a long time to find my purpose, but what I do is to integrate health and simplicity in my life. Once I feel vitalized, I do everything that I absolutely LOVE to do and try to make it into something that benefits society or me. My ultimate goal I suppose is to pass this initial level of superficial life onto a higher spiritual plane.

i can create all day long, i can dream up new businesses everyday. It's manifesting them that is the problem. so i've turned off my creativity because it can depress you to think of things and not see them manifest. The idea is the easy part for me. The creation is alot of work that i'm not sure if i'm willing to do. I always liked to PLAY as i child and i think i just may revert back to that. Just Play ALl The TIme =o)~ no, thats sorta what i do now, maybe i need to find a divine purpose

Thank you, great video. good stumble on for me cause this is all i've been thinking about for months. How to find something i believe in 100% wholeheartedly and Love and make it a livelyhood. I teach the exact same philosophy on talents and childhood dreams in helping others find thier dreams. I always knew exactly what i wanted to be as a child. It was a MountainMan. My dad said it was the craziest thing he'd ever heard.
But, i don't enjoy the cold, maybe, a jungle boy in the tropics ? =o)

there are lots of things that make me happy. l'm most happy when i can create. i love drawing because i can draw whatever i want. when i was a kid i loved to explore everything. i dreamed of traveling the world and seeing/experiencing everything(whether they were good or bad). my parents completely killed that dream because they never let me go anywhere except school, plus they want me to be a doctor and then take care of them in their old age. now i suffer through depression.

when i was little, all i did was explore all over my house and neighborhood. i still love learning new things and exploring the world rather than trying to own it

i agree, very interesting. i think helping others is difinitly a source of happiness for me. i think our "purpose" in this life is to sincerly help one another unconditionally. specially those in need. another thing i noticed is when you are patient with others, and you don't judge people, it makes you happy and don't judge people by colour, religion or ethnicity. i swear, it works.

soccer makes me the happiest
we used to play soccer in elementary school every single recess from 2nd grade to 6th.
i played 4-5 years of organized soccer which i enjoyed so much!
im aware that i'm not quite good enough to be a professional but maybe i could teach soccer
i just need to find a place where they'd pay me to do it.

I like the part where she said oh my God thats so true. i liked it because thats my purpose Jesus gave his life for a person a life of serie towards humankind so we are part of mankind to serve each other into finding the true purpose of life to live among our own genetically similar species(homo-sapiens).
God keeps me going everynight even after i don't even have money for heating my house, my dream stays as a medic to help the sick in the name of God.
I ask what is your purpose?

i never played with toys as a kid...nor made believe they were human in an way at all...thats wierd...im sure a lot of ppl did it but im just thinking about it and its a pretty wierd thing to do

I am taking philosophy now and my reason for living is to entertain others with acting and comedy and btw nichi said out of chaso comes order. the second part of that phrase is after all but one is dead! Great video 5 stars!!!

"The Universe provides"? This is the "Just World Hypothesis"; that the universe wouldn't have you in it if it didn't have available the happy life that you want. This is obviously false with the cadre of unavoidable suffering.
I'm not saying that one should give up trying to be happy, but let's not derail ourselves into outer space with silliness!
