Good job. I find, though, that the glare of the modern music is a jar. But I guess you need that to keep today's viewers watching. Also, too much weight seems to be given to the absure "incendiary paint" theory. That malarkey should've exploded itself years ago, imo.
I have often wondered the same thing. Dumping water ballast to make it lighter or even the level of the craft or ?? Dumping excess fuel? If anyone has the true answer I would love to know.
Water ballast was dumped to make the ship lighter and to keep the ship in trim. When landing ballast was dumped to slow descent. However in the last flight the reason was not that, but that the ship was heavy at the tail.
Also the water ballast tanks are also partially responsible for the death toll for being lower. The tanks melted and dumped themselves onto the passenger compartments, making them less prone to burning.
Yes. Many jumped, then with broken legs were unable to move as the fiery wreckage fell upon them. Many who rode the crash to the ground were able to run to safety, while those who had jumped burned to death.
IF I did that it would be just another Hinderburg film like all the others. I tried to get the original footage, which was silent. The radio commentary was added and not original. the video footage and the radio commentary are completely separate entities.
Hmm...some more 1936 footage mixed with the 1937. It isn't always easy to tell, though, for each and every shot. The best way to tell: If the Olympic Rings are visibile on her skin, its from 1936; if they're not, its from 1937.
The section "Footage of the Hindenburg in Germany" is actually from a newsreel covering its first arrival in Lakehurst NJ., in the United States in 1936. (Thus began its first season of transatlantic travel.)
14 minutes 40 seconds too long? OMG has our attention span been reduced to a 30 second commercial? IF the text goes by too fast, use the PAUSE button.
Yes the information was obtained from Wikipedia. We tried to do the best we could, getting the most accurate information, with some footage you normally don't get to see. Most are happy with it, some are not. :)
I live in Lakehurst, always have - I have a video here called Hindenburg Crash Site - see what it looks like today. This video, with images inside Hangar 1 is a real treasure, I have never seen passengers disembark before INSIDE the hangar. Hangar One today is on the US National Historical List.
I loved seeing the earlier footage, especially what a successful landing looks like. Lose that soundbed and I'll give it five stars. You must have wanted to avoid usual practice of playing Morrison audio behind crash visual - maybe you could use 1930s music or newsreel narration?
At one time the words WERE slower. :) I showed this to a few people before posting, and they said to speed them up because it would be too boring otherwise. I can't please everyone Hehe.
That is insane! Seeing a German vessal pretty much flying the Swastika over New York City! I would not be surprised if this did actually turn out to be a case of sabotage!
I don't think that Wikipedia is the word of God. They have been known to be wrong before. By the way when I used Wikipedia for the information, there was no information about it being an anti Nazi project, so that is a new addition to the information that I never saw at the time.
The swastika was used as a symbol of good luck and national unity long before the Nazis stole it. It is originally from India and represents the Sun and is also found in some Native American and Asian art.
It was 1937, the high point for Nazi Germany. I highly doubt there was a swastika on the Hindenburg because it used to be a symbol of good luck and national unity. Face it, it was a Nazi project.
Great footage. Though I should point out that the headline of "the first voyage Hindenburg to the USA" conflicts with Wikipedia's statement that it made "10 trips to the US..."
Right, they put swastica on the side, not becaus they wanted to say anything abouit Nazis, but because they wanted to promoted peace and harmony.!

That terrible blasting music. Do you really think 12-year-old would care about this anyhow, that you have to accommodate them?
35westst 2 years ago
This wasn't for 12 year olds... We had previewed this previously without music with comments people wanted music. We can't please everyone.

At 2:34 an object appears at left side-middle of screen -really brightens up. Flying disc?

the hindenburg was becomming tail havy so the rear water ballast was dropedp to bring the ship back into trim.
The reason the Hindenburg was becomming tail heavy was because the gas cell where the fire fire started was already leaking by that point

NO NO NO. What you saw dropping from the craft was the MOORING LINE. As the ship was docking it exploded.

Actually, at one time, the Swastica WAS a symbol of good luck... before Hitler took it and turned it into the demonic thing it is now.
corporatehq 4 years ago
Indeed, the Hindenburg was intended as a symbol of Nazi power. What is a giant dirigible, after all, if not an 800-foot phallic symbol?
Then again, maybe sometimes a zeppelin is just a zeppelin.

becuase the nazis funded the project, much to hugo eckener's protest
