I was on the Riverboat President in 84 or 85 have to look it up, there was only maybe 100, 150 on board. They were promoting this guy Stevie Ray, so having a friend with a record store, I got a ticket to go. Well, I had been listening to Stevie for a few years before, wore out every album he had out, so I knew what was coming. I was 2 feet from the small stage, and most of the people were at the bar or walking the decks looking at New Orleans. continue
This young guy came out alone, in a peach colored wool outfit, picked up each guitar and checked it, grabbed one and went into a solo, all by himself. I thought the guy was just tuning untill he cut loose. I never moved from that spot, never missed a lick, it was by far the best guitar I have ever seen or heard, no cd of his on the best stereo in the world could compare to live. You can't say that about anyone today. Truly a highlight of my life. the boat and Stevie are gone, never forgotten
@candlefrog1 Chubby Checker (the Founder of Rock & Roll) 1st sang the words in his song "The Class" Otis Redding did his in 1963.Paul McCartney & Wings released their version in 1972. So, the idea wasn't original, however, Stevie was the most successful with it.
@SmokinAceDan John Mayer can, he has, and he will. but he is not SRV no one can imitate another musician perfectly. John Mayer is sick but you are right, John Mayer just plays another style of blues
nenache un commento in italiano (per un concerto in Italia tra l'altro) in ricordo di questa grande stella oramai scomparsa...semplicemente spettacolare!!!
shows how humble the man definitely couldn't be too worried about his guitar playing because few compare but as far as singing goes i don't know to many people who could point out something he is doing wrong. Hell i don't like my voice either but i can't sing for shit.
SRV did not like his own singing voice and could not understand why WE LOVED IT! All he wanted was to make his guitar sing. Yes, we heard...AND WE WILL NEVER FORGET!!!!!!!
someone please answer me this... I'm not a mindless dolt, I love Stevie, I own most of his catalogue... but please tell me, what is the name of that hat.. I want one... :O lol
I'm from Nashville. The dude on the keys lives or lived here. I've seen him many a time with a local blues band called Mike Henderson and the Blue Bloods. And I am TOTALLY spacing on his name. He rocks. I'll get back when I remember his name.
I am bringing all my kids ( 4) up listing to the best of clasic rock, that includes the SRV man, he was incredible, check out my little Bobby, his Idle is SRV & JIMMY PAGE go and check him out and please send it around so we can keep real rock from going to sleep. SRVZEPP

@QuantumFunk Mayer has been possesed with the ghost of SRV, never see to many guitarists play with so much emotion as SRV and Mayer in my book. You don't make faces like SRV and Mayer unless your feeling what your playing lol.

@5507156693 opinions are like assholes, every one has one, I got mine and you have yours. Oh and I didn't say they played alike, in a nut shell I was saying they shared simular emotions while playing.

there must be over a thousand different versions of mary had a little lamb and except for 23 faggots im sure the world will agree that this is by far the best.
@frostmcnasty In my humble opinion the best one is a version you can find here, lasts 5:51 minutes, and at the beginning there is a sign that says the title of the song. For me it is the best since it seems that Stevie is playing more furiously than ever...specially after the soft part. Just my 10 cents, since you cannot get tired of this song and his playing.
@RUDEGOOD I also think that's why he put a left handed neck on "red". It originally had a right handed neck on it and then he switched it to the left handed neck. Stevie rarely played "red"anyway, so I'm pretty sure if the left handed neck added any advantage Stevie would have used it more often. Besides, the neck on Number 1 is about as big and thick a neck you can get so that's why he played it the most!!
240p and still sounds better than most songs put out today.
