I didn't except "Surf's Up" to get nominated either. It was the last animated movie on people's minds to receive the nomination. People were expecting "The Simpsons Movie" to get the nomination. I thought Surf's Up was pretty mediocre compared to other animated films released in 2007 or other penguin movies such as "Happy Feet" and "March of the Penguins".
It was obvious that Brad Bird was going to win for Ratatouille. No other film could even come close. He is one of the best directors and writers out there who is meticulous when it comes to his work.

I liked Persepolis too but something about this movie just got me. Pixar got me to love and root for a rat chef... I mean hey it was deserved lol
