  • hello maestro, as a hobbie just purchased a lyra and my question is what should the strings of the bow that playes the lyra be made from? do you know where one can be found in australia? thank you for video and play harmoniously ...ciao.

  • @claudesclassics The bow is best made out of horse hair. Don't accept anything else. There are luthiers in Australia who make these instruments. Check online. If I was able to get a lyra made in the USA, you can get one too constructed down under. Lots of Pontian Greeks live in Australia.

  • that helped me know how you can tune it, thanks. i was also wondering if there is a music book that anyone knows of that could help me learn how to play it, i already know how to note read because i have played to violin for 7 years and the guitar for 9 years on and off, so i guess my real question is is there a site reading book for beginers?

  • @peanutbutterslurpee1 There is a Greek book called H PONTIAKH LYRA STO PENTAGPAMMO which can help you learn songs and dances plus how to play.

  • ti leei aytos ti einai AMERIKANOS????

  • ellines i amerikani iste

  • I want to learn lyra , bought one but i can't find anyone who could teache me...!!

  • Thanks You Brother

  • Glad it was useful to you.

  • oh man im so confused. I have no idea how to play this thing... I bought a book in greek but good help that was. Greek school couldnt even help me with that. I called a teacher and he bailed on me the last 2 times he wasw supposed to come and teach me it. I was wondering if you could put create short videos for lessons on youtube anything would help.

  • Let me know if you still need help. I'll be glad to help you but be assured I'm no expert but know some things.

  • good job my friend

    keep playing the lira..!!!!!!

  • Thank you.

  • Bravo! nepe! pontiaka kalatsevis? GooD :)you speak in pontian?

  • Wish I could speak Pontiaka or Greek. I've always been weak in learning new languages. It's just not my talent.

  • @Elinitsam if you learn greek, pontian is easy, its a dialect, i have relatives who married into pontian families, and they speak greek, with different endings to the words.

  • To give lessons over the web is an interesting concept. I believe it is more useful and profitable (education wise) to students who are not absolute beginners. To teach this instrument to someone with no fiddle or guitar experience would be extraordinarily difficult given the complexity of hand movements. Would anyone have an idea as to how successful online music lessons are? There must be 1000s of people around wishing to learn instruments but can't given no available instructors within range

  • Great idea, even though I giggles when you said "G string" ...Thanks

  • I have people who want me to teach this instrument over the Internet despite not yet being an expert myself. The problem is it can be hard to do even with a web cam since one is then relying on the ability of a web cam to transmit visual and sonic clarity. The other major problem is certain beginner students may not be able to tune their instrument(s) and therefore it can promote another setback. At least if I were in tangible form, this would not be an issue. A good point don't you think?
