I've studied gnostic and new age teachings for years before Jesus took over my life. The ideas and concepts in The Shack are not new. Using the 'Holy Spirit' to tell lies is like the biggest no-no in the Bible. Please pray for the Holy Spirit to reveal whether the teachings in The Shack are true or not. There is no 'secret knowledge/wisdom' to know God. To know God you must turn your life over to Jesus. Its not WHAT you know, its WHO you know. That's Christianity. Gospel not in The Shack once
I lost my mom a few weeks ago and have been "lost". I bought this book for my daughter in law a couple of years ago for Christmas. She brought it to me last Sunday to read and I have read it in one day. It pulled me in, I felt like I was right there with the characters. Since reading the book I am feeling so much better. I do feel God touched me through the reading of this book. It was an awesome read.
@bella50008 why do you think so? This story was written to his children, think about other "childrenś" books,in most of them thelogical issues have been simplified. I could understand the theological arguements, IF the focus of this book was on them, but this is about finding trust in God, defining forgiveness to those who are struggling with related issues. It is about God reaching out to everybody (which doesnt mean everybody accepts His terms) no matter where you are in your life.
@avenueonline "This story was written to his children." I read that somewhere and it makes me wonder how in the name of Bog this book became a NYT bestseller. I mean seriously, it isn't even a good children's book. It's not even worthy of presentation to a community creative writing class on the wrong side of the tracks. The fact that it was popular at all is a sad commentary on American culture and taste.
@bella50008 It is a total departure from sanity, not to mention English prose. As for a departure from scripture, that is like saying that Edward, the vampire from Twilight is a departure, from Bram Stoker's Dracula. Both are fiction, so what difference does it make? The only difference being that "The Shack" doesn't sparkle like Edward. It is just a bolshy lot of poppycock and chepooka. Pure rubbish, just like the Bible.

This book touched the darkest parts of my soul and replaced it with light. I found it a gift to read it and I consider it a gift to pass it on.
