But still; America can thank their lucky stars that Flintites had that Sit Down strike. It ushered in 70+ years of prosperity and a better life for millions of workers nationwide. The middle class (what's left of it) should be thankful for Flint and those brave men at Fischer Body 1. Without that strike, there would be no middle class.
I prefer this vid to the new one-I rank it right up there with This Corrsion by pseudotones for showing what Flint, MI has become. GM and many other corporations began to buy land in Mexico in the late 50's knowing that eventually we would have a corporationist democracy. When you can pay a dollar an hour and fire someone for getting hurt at work....well try to find much mae inthe USA in your average dept. store. I hope to be able to move back to Flint, MI one day. It will always be home.
It's nothing to do with unions. It's the inflationary dollar and the corporations need for profit.
Inflationary dollar -> rise in prices -> rise in wages to keep up with prices (even though the average wage has lost ground) to keep consumerism up for corporate profits. To get higher profits corporation are trying to drop the wages section even though it will lower consumerism. But profit shortfall these days are made up from financial investments and creative accounting less to do about jobs.
You are fools. Germany pays twice what they do here. Taxes are slightly higher. They are very profitable. You are being hoodwinked to say it cant be done here. It can. THEY WANT TO BREAK US AND DESTROY OUR COUNTRY! You are fools to think otherwise. It started in Michigan and was a ripple across the country. Fuck the corps. Soon, the rooster will come home to roost.
The unions didnt ruin Flint, the niggers did. When there was unions and car business Flint was good. Now its just a fuckin ghetto and drugs and crime. If you dont believe that, you dont live there. Just drive downtown on a weekend around midnight on Saginaw Street and watch, look, and listen. Its not union people there, its niggers enjoying a destroyed city thay created.
Flint can't compete with labor that is cheaper than the slave were back in the in the 17-18hundreds. Here's something to think about. think about health care and more. If you own a slave, and had paid money, invested in them, you took care of that slave to protect your investment. Over in some other countries, a worker get hurt or killed, who care, get another on for 25cents and day. Question is, What is worse? How can flint compete with this labor force?
@bigblockcutlass123 - Good Question. I hope I have a good answer. The question is: How can Flint (or any city in the US) compete with slave wages in underdeveloped countries. The answer: import taxes. The US is one of the only developed nations in the world without them. In the early days of our nation, our government decided against import taxes to encourage international commerce and trade. This did a great deal towards making the US a success in a hurry. Cont'd....
@bigblockcutlass123 - Cont'd...However, that same policy now allows goods to be sold for far cheaper than we can afford to keep up a decent standard of living. Most developed European and Asian countries have import taxes that make certain that US goods sold in their countries are far more expensive than their domestic goods. We should do the same. If you want to sell in the US, pay the price. If a Chevy is $20k, the comparable Toyota should be $35k after the import tax.
@bigblockcutlass123 -- The UAW hasn't contributed anything to production since the 60's. The UAW agreed to let GM send jobs over seas because they where too lazy to work those jobs and do the out sourcing that they've GM has been doing since the last big strike of '96. The real problem is over paid and under worked Unions with outrageous and counterproductive demands like job banks and the first day of hunting being a paid day off
good song...usually a R&B/Hip-Hop fan, but I respect good rock for a black guy who grow up on the WESTSIDE...shit was to good for people to plan for the future...I will never live there again, but it will alway be in my heart. (Got do the best for my family)....Hopefully, my family (all of Flint {white/black it doesn't matter} will see we are killing each other over trash. Got get out the junkyard to see that it more important things in the world. Love ya Flint to my die'n day.
Wow! I have been living in Charlotte, NC for about 16 years now, but I was born and raised in Flint, Michigan. Flint will always be home. You really speak the truth here and along with the sadness, you are showing some of the former greatness and pride that used to exists in Flint. Thanks Lordd Virgil!
I left Flint in 1977. Grew up on the South End. All my family is still there. It's a sad place to visit. I use to hang cranks on the motor line, down in the hole, Chevy Plant #4. Common thread (even in this video) is to blame GM (the Rich Man) for the devastation, but, as far as I'm concerned, Union greed is what did Flint in. The Union killed Flint's Golden Goose, not GM. Union Bosses thought GM couldn't afford to leave Flint, GM Bosses knew they couldn't afford to stay. M. Moore, kiss my ass.
@dennisb133 I worked at G.M. in Flint 31 years retired in 1996. Grew up in Clio, started work in FISHER #1 1965 plant then moved to Buick City in 1985 when Fisher Body closed. My last year at Buick City G.M. started work in the body shop, and pressed metal shop so they could build the next line of cars G.M.was going to build, the union demanded that skilled trades get so many hours each week or else,G.M. stopped the work. Now you can play football where we used to build Buicks.
Yep. The unions came in and the jobs moved out. Just went back through Flint a few days ago to visit family and friends and that place is an absolute wasteland.
Pretty much sums it up folks! I heard someone say once "there is a sort of freedom in being completely screwed, because you know things cant possibly get any worse" Good news Flint, the only way is up now
Awesome video & great music, I remember all those images from growing up in FLINT too.
However, the song writer is using the same ole wrong scapegoating by claiming that the "rich took something out of Flint leaving the poor stuck".
The Truth is that the rich made Flint very well off (spoiled) and the citizens then allowed/exhorted GOVERNMENT Socialism into driving all the productive ability OUT of FLint (read Atlas Shrugged).
@09deloras Currently this video is available exclusively on YouTube. Very soon we will be recording the song properly and shooting a proper video. Then the video will be available in many different formats. Thanks, LV
You Rock Lordd Virgil.. That song Kicks ASS. From one of your loyal fans from Michigan!!!! I saw you when you played Shuss Mt. Your the Greatest.. Keep on Rockin me Baby!!!!!
Saw this band live a few months ago...they are great and put on a real show. This proves they are multi-talented with a video like this. It hits home no matter where you live.
May be one of the best songs about a town out there. This band really rocks it (I checked out their other videos of live shows) and they can "bring it" onstage, too.
This really rocks. I have the last CD and can't wait for the new one with this on it. The song "Pain" is a favorite. Lordd Virgil is in my video favorites on here along side of many great bands. Flint may suck as a town but this song makes me feel better about it.
Love this! I am from Flint this song tells the truth and speaks out to all of us from Flint. My Great Grandfather was in nthe great sit down strike. My Grandmother went to school with the members of Grand Funk. I am a true blue Flint Stone. Flint is forever my home.
Great Music and Video. Thanks for singing about a place the fat cats would like to forget. My Dad is a WW11 Vet and retired with 30+ years from the Truck & Bus. My dad did his part, but GM haven't did theirs.
Saw the story on you in USA Today news and had to check it out. My folks were both factory workers in Flint and had to move away for lack of work (they were featured in "Roger & Me" by Michael Moore). They have watched your video too and said you nailed it...they also said you rock! I think so too. Very cool. Just sayin' thanks. Joannie

We saw you guys perform this song last week and it was great. It really hit home. You should put this up on the big screen when you sing it. Yep...fans :-)
Used to work in Flint & was happy there. I miss what used to be. Great job on the song...this video could apply to a lot of places now. Thanks for bringing the music back home.

I left Flint back in '81 ... As a young man, I could already see it was not the place to begin a life. So sad what has become of my hometown.
The video is pretty cool though ... lots of iconic stuff for a Flint expat to remember. Not a bad peice of music either!
