@staboymalibu94 I was being simple, in cinematography, they have their own version of photoshop meaning digital software using algorithms, matte matching/moving, chroma key, and many other terms / effect tools used to add or take away from a shot. of course full body shots were her double. you cannot learn ballet in a few months. takes years and years, and not everyone can go up on pointe. but natalie did a good job.
I really like how they did the reflections of the camera removal but also the mirror reflections to where the actress' reflection is different very awesome!
I have to say that the movie isn't completely about the dancing. It's about a character going insane to be perfect. The dancing is amazing and it's not that big of deal that a stunt double was used. I still love the part where she turns into the black swan onstage even though it wasn't Natatlie. My favorite shot in any film last year. It's about the filmaking and sometimes certain things need to be sacrificed. My number two film of last year by the way!
i really wanna know how they removed the crew from the mirror... it bothers me so much, they did it in inception too, ugh i need to know! does anybody know how to do it?
@Aice2313 Either Extensive clean up or add a CG mirror with the first image on the original mirror and roto the reflection. Then comp the roto in the CG mirror..
@Vikramthewhite well yeah.. haha but i guess it's something you can't really explain, you need to learn it in film school. but anyways, i think i have an idea of how they did it, but i defs dont know how christopher nolan did it with his mirror scene in inception..... that was intense cuz the characters overlap each other and the camera so many times.... i dono how they did it, but anyways... thanks :p

people, come on. Stop complaining about the whole "double bla bla Sarah Lane bla bla so like unfair bla bla" issue. Finding that kind of trash in every single Black Swan video.is absolutely annoying
@KissKara If it doesn't matter, then why did they have to put this edited special effects video that removes all the parts which show face replacement? We all agree that Natalie Portman did a great job as an actress, why thy keep perpetuating a lie that she is some kind of a dane prodigy. You want a real special effects video, look here: /watch?v=drS0XgRdlQc
@KissKara I think a lot of ballet dancers and ballet fans feel that claims that one could learn to dance like a ballerina in 18 months is insulting to ballet dancers. It takes years and years to master ballet, continuous training from a very young age, pain, sweat, lost childhood. When they start to dance en pointe, their feet blister and bleed. Ballet is one of the most difficult professions. Also, to me, and I am just a fan, it's part of the whole attitude towards arts today.
@jewelmarkess When the movie was about to come out, people kept making comments about Natalie Portman's performance, and many questioned if the dance scenes were performed by her or a double. While many said it was entirely her, it was VERY OBVIOUS that it was not the case. Stating that Natalie Portman was able to learn to dance like a profecional ballerina in just five months is atrageous for those who say it and those who are so naive and dumb to actually believe it.
@jewelmarkess This type of comments are annoying for you, myself, and everyone inthis page, especially because it is immposible to get to an agreement via youtube. This is my last comment and I won't replpy to you anymore.
in my opinion the thing is not if natalie portman has danced a lot or not in this movie because she's an actress (and a great actress i think), the thing is they try to make everybody to think that she had done a lot of dificult dance scenes and it wasn't true. all the people involved in this film should have been honest with the audience (including her and the director) because, anyway, she deserved the oscar even she didin't dance everything in this fantastic film. (sorry for my english)
Some people say that we've been so naive in believing that Natalie became a prima ballerina in a year and a half. But it's not that way. When I saw the movie for the first time (I've watched it 3 or 4 times), I was pretty sure that Natalie didn't dance the coda or did some of the en pointe scenes either, it was clear they must have used a double. But I still loved the movie and Natalie's performance (as an actress), and I think she really deserved that Oscar.
They did the head replacement so that all the dancer would look like nina. She was thinking that everyone around her was turning into her, and that she was constantly battling between the black swan and the white swan.
it's astonishing the amount of detail that goes into making a film....just cleaning up the floor, something you would never think of. film makers are so dedicated.
@repn87 -- I danced professionally from age 15 until 19 ...... I don't care what YOU buy. Well, now you know about Odile, the character in Swan Lake's second act..... See? You learn something every day, eh?
I've always known doubles were used for movies. If it weren't for doubles, movies wouldn't be as cool as they are because we know an actor doesn't always do their own stunts or they just can't at all lol. What bothers people about this one is that supposedly the director had stated that Natalie had trained very hard for this role and made it sound like she became a ballerina expert all in what? One year was it? Yeah, okay.
@repn87 -- I have had ballet training since the age of SIX ......... and danced with major EUROPEAN companies .... so, take your "Learn something about ballet training" and shove it up your ass! By the way, there is no such character as "THE BLACK SWAN" in Swan Lake........ the role of that of Odile ..... the sorcerer's daughter...... So, the entire film is moot.
I think Natalie did an amazing job and deserved the awards. Her performance was very believable. In a year and a half, I'm sure she couldn't be completely perfect in ballet, because it takes many years to learn. But still, in that small amount of time, I think she did a great job. However, I don't think anyone should underplay the amount of work that Sarah Lane put into helping her.
Completely understandable if an actor has face replacement for difficult dancing scenes especially if they're not dancers. Plus, people are praising her acting too not just the dancing.
BUT for Darren to SAY she became a prima ballerina in one year and always forgetting to mention body doubles and VFX, just trying to make critics and the Academy think she was so committed she became a dancer is NOT COOL. Just be honest. That's all. Don't lie for Oscars and to make your movie seem amazing.
@RetroPotter I totally agree. She's a good actress, but most of the pointe scenes were her body double. You cannot learn to be that good in 6 months. Ballet is a lot harder than people think. Most of her training was to get her body to LOOK like a ballerina's.
If you're complaining about the head replacements also complain about the mirror shots and the one with the moving paintings... oh, and also the "floor cleanup"shots
why is that even a controversy? they admitted that natalie didn't do the pointe parts. anyone who has taken a single dance class could tell you it was impossible to learn the coda of swan lake in SIX MONTHS.
@ecoweho11 -- Sara Lane was HIRED as a body double and she was PAID FOR IT ...... she wasn't forced to work as a body double and did it for free, you know.
Amazing work all around. It's a movie people. You didn't think it was actual reality did you? And if you did that is no one's fault or deception. Movies are fakes and we know that when we sit down in them. Everyone was paid and signed off so too late to call fowl. Grow up already.
After i saw the film i didn't come out of the theater thinking "Wow,how great was her dancing", but how brilliant her portrayal was as the tormented Nina. There are body doubles used in films all the time to make a character more believable.Sorry, but even if Natalie did none of the dancing (which i don't believe),she was convincing enough in my books, including the critics who awarded her all the major awards because of her astonishing & believable ACTING performance as a ballerina.
@danza55 -- Portman has always had the bearing or a ballerina, even in other films ........ and when you watch her walk down the street, she holds that bearing. This film was a natural for her and she was so damned good in it. I'm so glad she won all the major awards. She deserved them.
nvrmind i FOUND THE OLD VIDEO!!!! the one with the face replacements like I saw the first time i watched this video. took me forever to find it but i did. why would they re-edit this video and take out those parts if they werent trying to hide something. i dont care natalie didnt dance the "85%" i have a problem with everyone involved in the movie claiming she did. when i first saw this video with the face replacements i didnt think anything less of natalies acting. i figured they used a double.
Yes the original video that was posted (before whitewashed and coverup) showed five or six face replacemetns during dancing sequences. This new cleaned up one shows none
the body double wouldnt have said anything if people didnt lie saying natalie did 85% of the dancing.. that makes me mad when actors claim to do all their own stunts just to get more credit.. i know stunt/body doubles should just get paid and do their job but its like when a pop star takes credit for writing someone else's song and getting praise for it..
@capsPLOX do you expect actors and actresses to be able to do everything?!She worked as hard as she possibly could to make herself look like a ballerina! This all boils down to jealously and this Sarah Lane girl just wants her 15mins of fame which she has gotten! Until there is a Oscar category for Best stunt man/woman, people like Ms Lane should just learn to shut up and appreciate the fact that she was part of such a great movie!
@rumneet I ama sure you can do better than Sarah Lane. And it doesn't matter how hard she worked, with that short legged, short armed uncoordinated stiffness she wouldn't get anywhere at the level of Sarah Lane in 50 years. And, do you call the pianist who played in The Pianist and the singer who sang Lucia in the fifth element "stunt" men and women? Or you think they did their own playing and singing?
@adballet as far as i'm aware Natalie isn't planning on becoming a professional ballerina, hence why Sarah Lane was her stunt double so that she could make Natalie look like a pro ballerina! Lane didn't act in the movie, she only danced, and the film is a success because Natalie portrayed the character well, not because Sarah Lane was her stunt double!!
@rumneet tbh i really didnt expect her to do everything. and when i saw the real effects video months ago with the 2 extra scenes in it, 1 was at the start after the part they removed the crew and it said FACE REPLACEMENT with a big arrow and they put natalies face on it. and then at the end at the black swan part when they showed her face up close they paused it and it was the body doubles face and then they had another big arrow with FACE REPLACEMENT and now all those videos are edited to this
Her arms were quite sloppy at the end to be an american ballet theater dancer. If you dance, you know what it's supposed to really look like. This is hollywood people. Egos get bruised.
Natalie won best actress. Not best dancer. Get over it.
Disgusting, I remember watching this several times with the several head replacements, and they put the time and effort in to remove the videos and take them out, shame on you, burn in hell
Holy s**t - I remember watching this featurette several times, and there were lots of head replacement shots. Why the hell have they all been removed???
Natalie did hell of a performance as Nina. Even if she didn't do any dance scenes, the way she plays the character is just amazing. She deserved the Oscar, and all the prices she got. And, stop insulting her as if all of this is her fault, and its not. The head replacements are to mantain the authenticity of the movie, not to make natalie look like a ballerina. If you just judge natalie's acting while watching the movie, you'd realize she really deserved that Oscar.
@iamtheladyofsorrows -- Portman was terrific! She had studied ballet as a child and getting back into it was relatively easy because the body is already primed for it. Working out for hours and hours each day for a year and a half can get one back into prime shape. She has always had that "ballerina" carriage. Her acting is what got her the Oscar!
@Karen41872 yes, but she didn't do the fouettes. and they all admitted that anyway so i don't see why this is a controversy. natalie, darren, etc, all said already that she didn't do the full body shots.
@omgcrayonz --- She did do some fouettes, but only while in training. Fouettes are murder on the toes! The French came up with that step just to torture American dancers.
@Karen41872 She can't go on pointe at all and that's why she wears flats in the BS entrance. Now, about the French and Americans it sounds paranoid and you may be the one who needs psychiatric help.
"“We had a formula down where we would shoot the dance double how ever Darren wanted to shoot it. Then we would bring Natalie in and have her go through the exact same motion, same lighting, same camera move and shoot it at 48 frames per second to reduce the motion blur. Then it was a matter of doing matchmoving and replacing the head.”
Christ...she gets an Oscar for portraying the emotions of a frigid goody-too-shoes?! Gimme a break. Most girls get that shit down pat by 15. At least Mila Kunis was entertaining.
I think even if we knew just how much she did train, we'd still be impressed with her Oscar-worthy dedication to the dancing part of her role. I would still want her to win best actress simply for her "head's" expressions telling the story of Nina's transformation.
Natalie Portman is an actress NOT a dancer, she won the Oscar for her acting skills, which as far as i know is what the Oscars celebrate. When i watched the film I was suprised at how little dancing there was in the film, the large majority of the film was based on Natalie' character and her psychological issues (to put in mildly!) stunt doubles are used all the time in films, and if Natalie was only going to do 5% of the dancing she wouldn't have needed to train so hard or lose all that weight
@Analeigh999 Then why exactly have they gone to the effort to re-edit the VFX reels to remove the face and head replacement? You know, suppressing the truth?
What about showing us the scenes of the dancer without portman's head attached?? U know, the 1's that keep getting deleted from U-Boob, that prove the Oscar is a joke =))
we are not questioning natalie portman's acting. the question to searchlight is - WHY TAKE OFF THE HEAD REPLACEMENTS??? if you're so confident and supportive of natalie portman's acting and training - why even bother misleading the viewers into believing she did ALL of those dancing?
Portman got the votes because her peers rewarded for her physical sacrifice to become a ballerina for a role. If the sacrifice is a con...as evidenced by the head swipes.....then did she get their votes under false pretenses? That the production co/studio have pulled the real videos which were widely available at EW & DB until yesterday means they need to cover up something. This isn't about Portman...this is about marketing an Oscar-winning movie and milking it for all it's worth.
@brigantea no she was not rewarded for her sacrifice! She also had her hair shaved off in V for Vendetta, that doesn't mean she deserves an Oscar because she had to endure hardship! She was awarded an Oscar because she acted well which is what the Oscar's is for - not dancing!
@Analeigh999 Then...why is the studio taking great pains to make it look as though what is on film is primarily Portman dancing? Why the coverup? Why?....Because they used the idea that Portman converted into a prima ballerina in less than two years to enhance her campaign for the Oscar. Facts are she did not dance en pointe during any part of the movie because she wasn't physically capable of doing so. But I guarantee you many who voted for her THOUGHT she was dancing en pointe.
And why does this video have all the head swipes removed? Why have they removed the old video that showed the head swipes from ALL media outlets. They have spent an incredible amount of time and money removing those videos. The studio clearly doesn't want us to know how many of the scenes don't include Portman's body. If this all about her acting...then why would they care?
@brigantea - When you say "head swipes".. are you referring to the transformation shot and the one other one that was in there? Seriously... you are taking 2 or 3 head swipes and making it a larger conspiracy than JFK. I saw that clip too.... but you make it sound like the whole thing was made up of replacements, which is not close to being accurate.
@brigantea Whoever is defending Portman did the pointe work should try a pair of pointe shoes on, they don't even have to try to go on pointe, just stand flat parallel, and come back and tell us their estimate on how long they need to dance Swan Lake. I can tell you, most people's estimates will be NEVER.
@brigantea of course she didn't do the en pointe stuff, it's bloody hard to learn all that, it takes years to sculpt your feet into doing pointe, i was under no illusions that she did all the dancing, of course she didn't! Next people will expect Daniel Craig to actually jump of a cliff and do all his stunts in his next Bond Film! Plus i think your forgetting that this film was extremely low budget, i don't think they ever expected to get Oscar nominations! Point is she did all the acting!!
oh my god @_@, I just noticed that at around 3:28 they took off sarah lane's face doing that pro dance, making it look like natalie portman dancing that last dance O_O, there was another video of this showing sara dancing, what the heck is happening O_____O
For all of the Sarah Lane fans out there (and Fox searchlight haters) - you have no idea know what you are talking about. Right now, its one person making claims. Go ahead...investigate all you want. You're gonna be very surprised.
While I could certainly tell the movie was heavily in use of CGI, in particular those dancing scenes where Sara Lane's body is used and Natalie's head superimposed I had no idea that they would blatantly omit it in this video. In the original reel ( which FOX has taken down) You can see it. What a shame, humbleness and truthfulness is set aside for an Oscar campaign. It shows very poor character on Portman's side.
because Fox Searchlight has gone to great lengths to understate the amount of help Portman received, since the concept of her training hard for over a year to become a ballrina was what a lot of the buzz for the film centered around.
@EnterTheNoid It is good so that the public knows that it IS NOT possible to dance ballet with a 1 year training. 10 year, professional experience, a lot more talent and better body than Portman (NO SHORT LEGS AND ARMS) and maybe, maybe, you will become a professional dancer, and maybe, you will become a soloist, and maybe you will became a principal, and maybe you will become a principal at Lincoln Center and maybe they will cast you for Swan Lake, and maybe you will be a good Swan Queen.
@summerstarr882 Isn't that Sarah Lane's face right there at that point? It doesn't look like Natalie there, like they just showed the wing cgi and didn't get to the head replacement....which they should have shown either way.

@Karen41872 Hey, dumbass. Maybe you should actually read his question before you post a response. He's asking why they edited out the head replacement shots in the VFX reel (you know, being manipulative cunts), not why they used head replacement in the movie. Any other moronic responses?

lol but why the head replacement? Oh Hollywood...
SomethingBadly 10 months ago 3
Karen41872 10 months ago
I think Natalie did an amazing job and deserved the awards. Her performance was very believable. In a year and a half, I'm sure she couldn't be completely perfect in ballet, because it takes many years to learn. But still, in that small amount of time, I think she did a great job. However, I don't think anyone should underplay the amount of work that Sarah Lane put into helping her.
heatherdumas 10 months ago 4
not too shabby...
Kaprah91 10 months ago
Completely understandable if an actor has face replacement for difficult dancing scenes especially if they're not dancers. Plus, people are praising her acting too not just the dancing.
BUT for Darren to SAY she became a prima ballerina in one year and always forgetting to mention body doubles and VFX, just trying to make critics and the Academy think she was so committed she became a dancer is NOT COOL. Just be honest. That's all. Don't lie for Oscars and to make your movie seem amazing.
RetroPotter 11 months ago 64
@RetroPotter exactly. Her acting was great but she is now being given credit for something she didn't do.
Beam261 9 months ago
@RetroPotter I totally agree. She's a good actress, but most of the pointe scenes were her body double. You cannot learn to be that good in 6 months. Ballet is a lot harder than people think. Most of her training was to get her body to LOOK like a ballerina's.
Peace43829 3 months ago
@RetroPotter Did you see the movie? They did the face replacement for the one scene where she's going crazy and she sees her own face everywhere.

If you're complaining about the head replacements also complain about the mirror shots and the one with the moving paintings... oh, and also the "floor cleanup"shots
nemirc 11 months ago
where is the one with the head replacement?
why is that even a controversy? they admitted that natalie didn't do the pointe parts. anyone who has taken a single dance class could tell you it was impossible to learn the coda of swan lake in SIX MONTHS.
omgcrayonz 11 months ago
@ecoweho11 -- Sara Lane was HIRED as a body double and she was PAID FOR IT ...... she wasn't forced to work as a body double and did it for free, you know.

beenho 11 months ago
After i saw the film i didn't come out of the theater thinking "Wow,how great was her dancing", but how brilliant her portrayal was as the tormented Nina. There are body doubles used in films all the time to make a character more believable.Sorry, but even if Natalie did none of the dancing (which i don't believe),she was convincing enough in my books, including the critics who awarded her all the major awards because of her astonishing & believable ACTING performance as a ballerina.
danza55 11 months ago 5
@danza55 -- Portman has always had the bearing or a ballerina, even in other films ........ and when you watch her walk down the street, she holds that bearing. This film was a natural for her and she was so damned good in it. I'm so glad she won all the major awards. She deserved them.

nvrmind i FOUND THE OLD VIDEO!!!! the one with the face replacements like I saw the first time i watched this video. took me forever to find it but i did. why would they re-edit this video and take out those parts if they werent trying to hide something. i dont care natalie didnt dance the "85%" i have a problem with everyone involved in the movie claiming she did. when i first saw this video with the face replacements i didnt think anything less of natalies acting. i figured they used a double.
capsPLOX 11 months ago
Yes the original video that was posted (before whitewashed and coverup) showed five or six face replacemetns during dancing sequences. This new cleaned up one shows none
tonyc10011 11 months ago
that was impressive
MarkFulledge 11 months ago
the body double wouldnt have said anything if people didnt lie saying natalie did 85% of the dancing.. that makes me mad when actors claim to do all their own stunts just to get more credit.. i know stunt/body doubles should just get paid and do their job but its like when a pop star takes credit for writing someone else's song and getting praise for it..
capsPLOX 11 months ago
@capsPLOX do you expect actors and actresses to be able to do everything?!She worked as hard as she possibly could to make herself look like a ballerina! This all boils down to jealously and this Sarah Lane girl just wants her 15mins of fame which she has gotten! Until there is a Oscar category for Best stunt man/woman, people like Ms Lane should just learn to shut up and appreciate the fact that she was part of such a great movie!
rumneet 11 months ago 7
@rumneet I ama sure you can do better than Sarah Lane. And it doesn't matter how hard she worked, with that short legged, short armed uncoordinated stiffness she wouldn't get anywhere at the level of Sarah Lane in 50 years. And, do you call the pianist who played in The Pianist and the singer who sang Lucia in the fifth element "stunt" men and women? Or you think they did their own playing and singing?
adballet 11 months ago
@adballet as far as i'm aware Natalie isn't planning on becoming a professional ballerina, hence why Sarah Lane was her stunt double so that she could make Natalie look like a pro ballerina! Lane didn't act in the movie, she only danced, and the film is a success because Natalie portrayed the character well, not because Sarah Lane was her stunt double!!
rumneet 11 months ago 64
@rumneet tbh i really didnt expect her to do everything. and when i saw the real effects video months ago with the 2 extra scenes in it, 1 was at the start after the part they removed the crew and it said FACE REPLACEMENT with a big arrow and they put natalies face on it. and then at the end at the black swan part when they showed her face up close they paused it and it was the body doubles face and then they had another big arrow with FACE REPLACEMENT and now all those videos are edited to this
capsPLOX 11 months ago
Her arms were quite sloppy at the end to be an american ballet theater dancer. If you dance, you know what it's supposed to really look like. This is hollywood people. Egos get bruised.
Natalie won best actress. Not best dancer. Get over it.
roamingjones 11 months ago

CharlotteKM 11 months ago
Holy s**t - I remember watching this featurette several times, and there were lots of head replacement shots. Why the hell have they all been removed???
blueecto 11 months ago 2
Natalie did hell of a performance as Nina. Even if she didn't do any dance scenes, the way she plays the character is just amazing. She deserved the Oscar, and all the prices she got. And, stop insulting her as if all of this is her fault, and its not. The head replacements are to mantain the authenticity of the movie, not to make natalie look like a ballerina. If you just judge natalie's acting while watching the movie, you'd realize she really deserved that Oscar.
iamtheladyofsorrows 11 months ago 6
@iamtheladyofsorrows -- Portman was terrific! She had studied ballet as a child and getting back into it was relatively easy because the body is already primed for it. Working out for hours and hours each day for a year and a half can get one back into prime shape. She has always had that "ballerina" carriage. Her acting is what got her the Oscar!
Karen41872 11 months ago
@Karen41872 yes, but she didn't do the fouettes. and they all admitted that anyway so i don't see why this is a controversy. natalie, darren, etc, all said already that she didn't do the full body shots.
omgcrayonz 11 months ago
@omgcrayonz --- She did do some fouettes, but only while in training. Fouettes are murder on the toes! The French came up with that step just to torture American dancers.
Karen41872 11 months ago
@Karen41872 She can't go on pointe at all and that's why she wears flats in the BS entrance. Now, about the French and Americans it sounds paranoid and you may be the one who needs psychiatric help.

"“We had a formula down where we would shoot the dance double how ever Darren wanted to shoot it. Then we would bring Natalie in and have her go through the exact same motion, same lighting, same camera move and shoot it at 48 frames per second to reduce the motion blur. Then it was a matter of doing matchmoving and replacing the head.”
Nuff said.
Kirkpad 11 months ago
Christ...she gets an Oscar for portraying the emotions of a frigid goody-too-shoes?! Gimme a break. Most girls get that shit down pat by 15. At least Mila Kunis was entertaining.
TheShannon76 11 months ago
Booo....take away her Oscar. Give it to some other loser.
TheShannon76 11 months ago
I think even if we knew just how much she did train, we'd still be impressed with her Oscar-worthy dedication to the dancing part of her role. I would still want her to win best actress simply for her "head's" expressions telling the story of Nina's transformation.
mattchuuu1 11 months ago
Natalie Portman is an actress NOT a dancer, she won the Oscar for her acting skills, which as far as i know is what the Oscars celebrate. When i watched the film I was suprised at how little dancing there was in the film, the large majority of the film was based on Natalie' character and her psychological issues (to put in mildly!) stunt doubles are used all the time in films, and if Natalie was only going to do 5% of the dancing she wouldn't have needed to train so hard or lose all that weight
Analeigh999 11 months ago 5
@Analeigh999 Then why exactly have they gone to the effort to re-edit the VFX reels to remove the face and head replacement? You know, suppressing the truth?
maulcs 11 months ago
What about showing us the scenes of the dancer without portman's head attached?? U know, the 1's that keep getting deleted from U-Boob, that prove the Oscar is a joke =))
Deathrape2001 11 months ago
we are not questioning natalie portman's acting. the question to searchlight is - WHY TAKE OFF THE HEAD REPLACEMENTS??? if you're so confident and supportive of natalie portman's acting and training - why even bother misleading the viewers into believing she did ALL of those dancing?
amiski 11 months ago 7
@amiski Thank You for taking the words out mouth! would it have been so bad to give proper credit???
redcr24 11 months ago
Portman got the votes because her peers rewarded for her physical sacrifice to become a ballerina for a role. If the sacrifice is a con...as evidenced by the head swipes.....then did she get their votes under false pretenses? That the production co/studio have pulled the real videos which were widely available at EW & DB until yesterday means they need to cover up something. This isn't about Portman...this is about marketing an Oscar-winning movie and milking it for all it's worth.
brigantea 11 months ago 4
@brigantea no she was not rewarded for her sacrifice! She also had her hair shaved off in V for Vendetta, that doesn't mean she deserves an Oscar because she had to endure hardship! She was awarded an Oscar because she acted well which is what the Oscar's is for - not dancing!
Analeigh999 11 months ago
@Analeigh999 Then...why is the studio taking great pains to make it look as though what is on film is primarily Portman dancing? Why the coverup? Why?....Because they used the idea that Portman converted into a prima ballerina in less than two years to enhance her campaign for the Oscar. Facts are she did not dance en pointe during any part of the movie because she wasn't physically capable of doing so. But I guarantee you many who voted for her THOUGHT she was dancing en pointe.
brigantea 11 months ago
And why does this video have all the head swipes removed? Why have they removed the old video that showed the head swipes from ALL media outlets. They have spent an incredible amount of time and money removing those videos. The studio clearly doesn't want us to know how many of the scenes don't include Portman's body. If this all about her acting...then why would they care?
brigantea 11 months ago 3
@brigantea Exacty! plus see can see Sarah in the last black swan dance for a split second in the movie anyway when you pause just right..
redcr24 11 months ago
@redcr24 her armwork is very sloppy and bent all wrong. There's no way the dancer in that scene graduated American Ballet.
roamingjones 11 months ago
@roamingjones So what? she might not be the best among her peers but she still a dancer and as such Sarah as well as Kim deserve proper credit.
redcr24 10 months ago
@brigantea - When you say "head swipes".. are you referring to the transformation shot and the one other one that was in there? Seriously... you are taking 2 or 3 head swipes and making it a larger conspiracy than JFK. I saw that clip too.... but you make it sound like the whole thing was made up of replacements, which is not close to being accurate.
asuwish111 11 months ago
@brigantea Whoever is defending Portman did the pointe work should try a pair of pointe shoes on, they don't even have to try to go on pointe, just stand flat parallel, and come back and tell us their estimate on how long they need to dance Swan Lake. I can tell you, most people's estimates will be NEVER.
adballet 11 months ago
@brigantea of course she didn't do the en pointe stuff, it's bloody hard to learn all that, it takes years to sculpt your feet into doing pointe, i was under no illusions that she did all the dancing, of course she didn't! Next people will expect Daniel Craig to actually jump of a cliff and do all his stunts in his next Bond Film! Plus i think your forgetting that this film was extremely low budget, i don't think they ever expected to get Oscar nominations! Point is she did all the acting!!
Analeigh999 11 months ago 3
Too late. We already saw the video with the head replacements. Cat's out of the bag. Time for Portman to make a statement.

asuwish111 11 months ago
While I could certainly tell the movie was heavily in use of CGI, in particular those dancing scenes where Sara Lane's body is used and Natalie's head superimposed I had no idea that they would blatantly omit it in this video. In the original reel ( which FOX has taken down) You can see it. What a shame, humbleness and truthfulness is set aside for an Oscar campaign. It shows very poor character on Portman's side.
TheMonkeyclip 11 months ago 4
Oh wow that is Sarah's face. Wow! I knew something was off about this movie from the first dance sequence dream which looks to be completely cgi'ed.

AddieStarr 11 months ago 2
because Fox Searchlight has gone to great lengths to understate the amount of help Portman received, since the concept of her training hard for over a year to become a ballrina was what a lot of the buzz for the film centered around.

Kind of slimy of Fox to pull the reels that showed the impressive head replacement work that LOOK FX did for this film.
EnterTheNoid 11 months ago 40
@EnterTheNoid It is good so that the public knows that it IS NOT possible to dance ballet with a 1 year training. 10 year, professional experience, a lot more talent and better body than Portman (NO SHORT LEGS AND ARMS) and maybe, maybe, you will become a professional dancer, and maybe, you will become a soloist, and maybe you will became a principal, and maybe you will become a principal at Lincoln Center and maybe they will cast you for Swan Lake, and maybe you will be a good Swan Queen.
