  • I thought for the longest time that SHFFLing was "short hop fast fall laser", applicable to the spacies only.

  • @Strakenic haha XD

  • Still the best video for teaching people ATs.

  • almost impossible to shorthop with kirby

  • Wombo Combo by The Gang of Thieves!

  • Make the other parts available on mobile please :)

  • so would you say it's better to SHFFL your aerials rather than to wavedash between aerials? I usually wavedash instead

  • @ajporrasm right at 6:01 I think CF SHFFL'd the first aerial followed by a wavedash into another SHFFL'd aerial. Am I correct? If so then he SHFFL'd his attacks and wavedashed in between...

  • Fox is the hardest to shorthop with? He's one of the easiest imo

  • well computers react a certant way so try them on your friends

  • It's called wave dashing. Not sffling

  • @WCcontactDLR Wave dashing and shffling are to completely different techniques. Did you even watch the video? Wave dashing is a pseudo-roll or pseudo-dash used to move quickly and use any ground move. Shffling, or short hop fast fall L-cancel is simply short hopping, doing an aerial attack, fast-falling, and L-cancelling. It is the fastest way to perform and recover from an aerial attack.

  • 8:17 rage

  • I just bought this game yesterday. It's been a while since I played it (I used to own it as a kid) and my skills have significantly decreased since then. I'm currently getting beaten by level 9 computers, and it's pretty frustrating. Beyond learning these techniques, what can I do to improve my playing and not get beaten by computers?

  • @pinkfloydfan417 Just don't play computers at all. Computers will always react a certain way in similar situations, so by training against them, you develop bad habits. You can go against level 1 computers if you want a training dummy that recovers, because they don't really do anything else, but training against higher-level ones is really, really bad. Just study vids and practice your tech skill until you can play real people.

  • excellent vid

  • Thanks ALOT!

I watched all you tips and tricks videos and now im better than ever!

  • Dope

  • tyty

  • buen video. gracias por enseñarme

  • so thats how they move so fast! whenever i would watch pros on youtube i always thought that they were playing lightning melee lol

  • @anaverageteenager16 go to smashboardsDOTcom and join the smash-community

  • EXELENT VIDEO !!!

  • the knee at 5:51 was neither fastfalled or l-canceled

  • I remember about 3 years ago watching this I was like O_O someday I wish I could do that...

Then one year ago I decided to put away brawl and try melee again, and began to master the techniques. It is so much better than brawl, now I only play hacked versions of brawl if I ever do play it.

  • Lol this was a very good vid.

If you hended it in as a school project, you probably will get a high mark ^^

  • I'll have to try this. I have two friends who play like this, and despite I can sometimes beat them thanks to a mistake, they just... don't move humanly.

  • lol 110 ppl think brawl is good

  • i just watched the whole vid and i don't even own the game o_O

  • I'm tired of seeing these "Everyday I'm SHFFLing" comments on every damn Smash video

  • awesome

  • Daamm...

  • i love you man!$:

  • Best Smash video ever.

  • Any one else notice the Majora's Mask sound at 1:24?

  • Wavedashing is what I've always wanted to move like. I'm trying to do it. After one minute of practicing, I was able to do it 3 times in a row. But it's pretty tough. I hope I can master it.

  • So Marth is supposed to be hard to shorthop? Feels very easy to me. Guess I've mastered that at least. I've only watched the first advanced technique.

  • @MaggotF0rLife No, Marth isn't that hard. I've been playing with AT's for three years, and I still can't get Fox, Kirby, Samus and Sheik down every time. But I always get Marth and Falco.

  • Cool damn that soo cool

  • one other good thing that melee has but not brawl is that when you dodge it floats man it floats!!

  • wow you guys are incredible and i thought i was good geez!! lol congrats ur video is so helpful thanks so much for sharing!! i got a question for u wak017 i find it so hard to do shffl, wavedashing and wavelanding I only got it right twice! lol the characters i usually use are yoshi , dk and fox but is wavedashing and wavelanding only easy to do for a few characters and not all? also the recovery techniques are very hard to do since ur pressing like 4 buttons at once and in a very short time

  • this helps a lot! thanks guys!

  • at 1:08 it looks like some naruto shit haha

  • lol I watched this vid YEARS ago and it introduced me to some really cool music :D THX :D

  • is using the c-stick frowned upon? or is it better to learn how to use the joystick and the A button with combination with the c-stick?

  • @ninjacrusuader Almost everybody uses the cstick.

  • @Hawke90 I mean using the cstick for everything im just curious cause i know some friends that only use cstick

  • @ninjacrusuader Well I dunno how they jab and tilt with the Cstick haha, but 99% of good people use Cstick for their aerial attacks and smash attacks.

  • @Hawke90 Haha yeah i meant aerials and smash but thanks alot :D

  • wak, can u upload this vid to your new channel so i dont have to subscribe to both channels?

  • The intro is boss.

  • name of the song that stars at 7:00 please

  • lol, 5:29 you spelled "aerial" wrong

  • everyday im shffling.

  • Once youve mastered most of the advanced techniques... you have to practice against friends to know how to actually implement them. I actually started losing more after mastering these techniques against my friends who dont know about it. I was SHFFLING like crazy and end up getting shield-grabbed. Wavedashing and getting hit in the face with an F-smash. Not to mention tons of SD's lol.

  • @yague123 Yes, of course.

At a lot of games, when you are implemented new things that seems unnatural to you, but you've been told that it gets you better, chances are that you will lose. For the simple reason that you go out of your comfort zone, therefore you're somewhat awkward with the game for a while.

When you surmount this step, you're like newborn and ready for fight.

  • @Wak017 s(^_^)y

  • @yague123 I was the sameway to man. Stick with it. Watch matchups with the characters your friends use. If say...your friend uses Falco and you use Marth, just chaingrab him. Try to use combos a noob won't know how to escape and they HAVE to learn the tech to keep up. Other than that master spacing you shouldn't be getting hit when u wavedash. An keep smashing ^^ This game has been soooo good since i learned the tech in 06..i even grew my own community cause none was here.

  • @yague123 yup, application on computers just isn't good enough.

  • playlist of the music U used for this video please!!!

  • Best training video!!!

  • how much practice does it take to do the shffl

  • @kh2freek It took me a lot of time before I could pull it off consistently. At least a few months of playing intensively. And the best to practice this might be to play with your friends and to try spamming shuffles on them, even if you lose all your maches during learning process ,you'll eventually learn how to use t well.

And if/when you don't have anybody to play with, just practice ALL the time.

  • @Wak017

Thanks a lot man, even in 2011, your guide helped me to learn how to play better :)

  • @Blackitu do you mean rolling? I think you might be holding down shield before you hit jump in the wavedash, but I'm not really sure. Hope it helps though

  • Thank you so much! Thumbs up if you think Wak is the best teacher evar!

  • Whenever I try to waveshine with Falco, I always end up sidestepping when I use Down B. Should I be doing something different?

  • Wow you must be good at this game mate.

  • why does ganondorf say tick

  • I like how you mixed in Triforce Majeure's beat with the intro video soundtrack

  • i just noticed that the knee at 5:53 technically wasn't SHFFLed

    falcon missed the l-cancel

  • Comment removed

  • I loved this video so much. I watched it about 5 years ago and it thought me SO much about melee. Without it i'd still be following the training video in melee.

    Thanks man.

  • even tho i played melee since its release, i've recently discovered these advanced techniques.. guess i have a plenty of stuff to learn! excellent vid man

  • Well, I love the remixed Hyrule Castle music ;-)

  • how do ppl go from the ledge then knee instantly? im trying to learn how to do that but i always either fall straight down or knee, but i dont get on the stage.

  • @holygrail59 you have to press away from the ledge then jump (i reccomend using Y for this) then DI onto the stage while kneeing with the C-stick. takes some practice

  • i'm finding it tough to time l cancels, anyone have any suggestions?

  • Wow, this's great stuff, i thought I was a freak because i'm still gaming up on some melee

  • @bonezfromga no dude there are still plenty of tournaments

  • @bonezfromga

Youre not a Freak :P SSB and SSBM are still bether than Brawl.. (i played Brawl for about 600 hours and its... Nah it kinda sucks ^^)

  • Wow.. you really explained all of what Ive seen here really well. I actually learned something... Now I gotta practice it!

  • So wait, would wavelanding be more useful than wavedashing in some cases?

  • @donnelloutlaw it's the same motion, it's just that wavedashing implies that you start grounded, while wavelanding means you start from the air, in a nutshell.

  • @RysselSmash

    Ah, I see. THanks.

  • @donnelloutlaw No problem, if you have other questions feel free to ask.

  • @RysselSmash Thanks for being so cool about this.

  • Thanks for the advice. My friend know how to do this stuff so well and just kill everyone. Yeah, with this I'll give 'em a run for his money.

  • Watching this brings back soooo many good memories of ssbm. I wish the scene was as lively now as it was in 2006.

  • @wraith55 Pound 4 of 2010 already proved that the Smash scene is the most lively it's ever been now!

  • @luigiluigix2 Yes, the people who play all go to tournaments now, it's true so the scene isn't dead. But at least where I live, I can't just walk around in the dorms and see people playing any more. There aren't nearly as many new people, know what I mean?

  • how do you connect your gamecube to the net?

  • @snappedcondom You can't. Only the Wii and DS are the only Nintendo consoles online.

  • @glitchman161 actually there is melee online 64 too

  • @glitchman161

Actually, the gamecube has only a few-maybe two- games that can connect to the net.

  • This is good to learn the moves, but even if I mastered them I have no idea how to use them in battle.

  • @Abrown516 dont worry, just practice a little more and use it without fear, the experience will tell you how to use it. use it in batlle, dont worry if you are doing something stuoid or too much risk, that is the better way to learn how to use it ;)

  • @Abrown516 Watch videos of people using them, then try to do the same thing.

  • This is truly superb - explaining how to do the moves is one thing, showing how to LEARN is quite another. I wish Melee had come out when I was around 15 and I had oodles of time to play - as it is, that's when the original came out and the internet wasn't really the kind of information highway that it is now!

  • LOL Bowser's no L-cancelled attacks are synced with the music -^_^-

  • This is gr8!!! Im tryin 2 master playin with Link then later Young Link...any tips??

  • 110 people wants to play like a Noob, lol

  • why didn't i see this vid 5 years ago?

  • 110 player like brawl

  • after watching the video, and comparing it to people like isai, silent spectre, ken, mew2king, mango, tang, neo, zhu etc., they all took the how to play video to a whole new level, i wonder if they got together and made a how to play video, how it would look.....

  • Play Melee as a kid, unlock all the characters, and beat all the event matches.

Go to college, get pwned in Melee, and asked if I ever played it before.

Adv. techniques like this would probably explain this situation. -_-'

  • lolz I still play and upload vids. (not hardcore, just casual)

  • thanks man

  • yo that hyrule remix is boss

  • 110 people just got SHFFLed by thier mom

    Thumbs up if you agree

    :)

  • muy buenos videos muy utiles

  • omg i am soooooooooooo noob T_T

  • shhfling is hard i am good at the game but i use the short hop and fast falling l canceling sometimes wavelanding is hard

  • Still the best training video to date.

  • 1:23 Majora´s Mask sound, the music itself in this video also is from The Legend of Zelda <3

  • thank you!!! this is so helpful and wavedashing and landing is kinda hard but sometimes I can get them perfect

  • 5:48 to 6:10 rocks my socks!!

  • this video helped me so much. I've been playing from a year after converting from brawl, and the learning curve was hard, but it was worth it :) If there are any new players out there, my advice would be to watch pros play, and try to see if you can incorporate what they do into your play. Just practice, practice, and practice some more.

  • will u make a falco guide pl0x

  • @garyssonr Look up Falco/Fox Techniques on youtube

  • Ohhhh this is how you play

  • you know another technique could of been the spike and the edge hog

  • i know how to do all of this even the L-cancel. all i really need to know is how to shift

  • this shits hard. hard to learn, and hard to use in an actually game

  • @AIphanoob not hard to use once you practice and get it all down. then its 2nd nature

  • @AIphanoob Learning thoses techniques ain't quite hard, even though you'll have a hard time using theses in matches first time you give it a try. But it's worth it, totally worth it!

  • to catch them is my real test to TRAIN THEM is my cause!

  • damn this was uploaded 4 years ago!thats pretty awesome

  • I just want to say, this video is extremely useful, and very well done with the editing. Thank you so much for making this.

  • Lmfao at 8:08.

    RAAAAAWRGH!

  • To this day, I have never found wavedashing any usefull for myself.

Wavelanding has been a great technique to use with Ganondorf, but wavedashing... No.

With C.Falcon, wavelanding and moonwalking are important to me, but wavedashing... No.

With Marth? Sometimes, but mostly it's just enough to be a douchebag and camp at one spot, dodging and using F-smash.

    But that's just me.

  • Comment removed

  • @SparkSSBM

I didn't say it wasn't important. I said that I don't find it usefull for myself.

I haven't had the need to use it in matches for spacing at all really, other than when in a mood to show off a little bit. :P

  • @FrozenBlaze yea that does work against most people, but if you master the techniques you can do more than just win, you can rape!

  • I must say this is a very nice video. Great for beginners or veterans. Most other instructional videos are too sloppy or too quick or poorly organized. Great job.

  • great vid very usefull

  • Erh... The part where you say which characters you wavedash the most.. Shouldn't spacies be on the list? Waveshine, for example, is still a wavedash.. The spacies feed on that shit =)

  • fuck that shuffling is harddd

  • this video and later the MLG videos of ken and PC chris ultimately got me into competitive smash which I play to this day.

  • thank you, thank you, thank you... i'll practise that now!!!!

  • @busoLostop No they are two complete different techniques, waveland is much closer to wavedash.

  • @ 5:44, Best Falcon Combo ever.

  • to tell you the truth, i like brawl and melee. icant say melee is better because brawl has sonic, my favorite character in it

  • Amazing !

    i'll practice ! :;D

  • 108 people play brawl.

  • Damn does this bring me back, 2 years ago I used to play this non-stop, when I didn't have my friends over I would just challenge myself with lvl 9 Ganondorfs but now all I do is CoD, Halo, and Xbox shiz. But nothing compares to that feeling when you get a sick fudging combo(WOMBO COMBOOOO, Ken Combo, etc.)

  • at 8:07 "way 2 be a man young link"

  • Brawl is garbage. If only they could make these moves an actual part of the game, the ssb creators could come to the conclusion that it would be the best and most advanced fighting game of all time.

  • good shit bro! thanks for putting this vid up!

  • Amazing video!!

I remember using these when I first started playing smash oh so long ago. :P

Now I'm passing it on to friends that I'm trying to get into playing it!

  • Wow! Thanks for this video, now the amateur ones are going to be like the pro ones :D

    Need to practice~ ...

  • *trolling*

While I admit that Melee has its perks, both games have their pros and cons.

    For both -

Pro: Each game pits iconic -- and some not so iconic -- characters against each other for the lulz with a bunch of random items meant for tipping the advantage scales.

    Melee -

Con: Idiots drooling over stupid mechanics like wave dashing and spending hours upon wasted hours to perfect such techniques with top-tier characters just to become the best at a video game

  • To put it abruptly, turning items off pits a persons pure skill at their most handled characters against each other on a flat level.

Brawl balances the characters so there aren't as much of a tier setup. This means giving bottom tear characters spammy attacks to balance it out.

The tripping mechanic negates this pure skill because it happens at random times.

But overall, each game has its unique style that makes it good for what it is. JUST A FUCKING GAME!!

  • @CeruleanFox

    Wak typing.

Almost any good game has techniques to master and stuff Even, almost everything needs some techniques to learn (when you work, when you play an instrument, when you . You could tell me what drives you, what you do during your free time and I'd tell you what technique you probably already learned at it.

Learning techniques off a game is just something else people like to learn.

  • @QuebecScrew

Oh, i wasn't bashing the maker of the video. I was yelling at the other assholes trolling the comments just out of me being bored.

  • Didn't they take out L-cancelling in Brawl? Maybe they were trying to level the playing field for good players and bad players... Wish they hadn't though. In any case, my copy of Brawl isn't working so I just play melée. :/

  • MELEE and BRAWL r soft tingzzz bois

N64 SSB is where its at

  • @Dodger3142 no melee is better

  • @CenterMaster brawl>

  • To bad my gamecube controller broke, DAMNIT!!!

  • Wait....there's a DOUBLE-jump?!?!

  • As PrinceShion said, you must work hard if you want to learn the game. I myself thought I couldn't achieve the ability to learn these techniques. But it took me well over a year to get used to them. And I still haven't mastered them completely

  • Melee is shit compared to Brawl and SSB64

  • @startmirca Melee was regarded as one of the best fighting game that takes a lot of skill. Just watch some videos involving pro-Melee players. I thought it was "shit" at first, too. But then, I watched some pro melee players video and now I want to be as good as them.
