My husband knew Ron and we were fortunate to see him perform in concert. An amazing talent.

One of the things that set Ron apart from other jazz whistlers was the fact that he was an accomplished woodwind musician, and his phrasing reflects that training. He was also a very good piano player and understood changes, extended chords, scales and arpeggios. He was not just a whistler, he was a jazz artist.

I knew this guy! We went to the same church and he was a good friend of my parents. He was extremely talented in all areas of music and is sorely missed.

The improvisation on "Wave" is incredible. There is a track somewhere of him with Woody Herman in a concert recording (probably only audio) playing "Caldonia" and he takes his turn to solo amongst all the other famous names. Perhaps somebody knows of a DVD of this.
