Its open downpipe its gonna make more noise than go anywhere. Once its in boost I'd imagine it would move out. And its not compressor surge its turbo flutter which when under 15psi doesn't hurt anything which even then I find it hard to believe.

I thought compressor surge was when a turbo that was too big for an engine that could not take all the air that the turbo can supply? Making a rapid whoosing stutter sound, whilst the engine is accelerating. And that sound emitting from this ef upon gear change is compressor reversion, the key word being 'reversion.' Meaning the trapped compressed air, once the throttle is shut, has nowhere to go but the path of least resistance, turbo not spooling, but stalling, but not completely. Kids...

@lostcityt there are two types of compressor surge look up "real compressor surge" it shows a skyline on the dyno with a different type of surge. this type occurs when the engine os on full bosst at low rpm. the other type which you see here is fine unless u run high boost (ie 12psi or more.). there were turbo cars that came out with no blow off valve or recurculating bypass valve. they put in blow off valves or bypass valves to eliminate the compressor surge sound.

@xrsrule yeah mate i've seen that, i was trying to explain it that way but may have failed. That turbo on the skyline was probably incorrectly sized for the engine and suffered surge upon boost, turbine too big for exhaust housing, dunno, looked like a hybrid of some sort. I was trying to say that surge does not sound like the EF with closed throttle but like that skyline on WOT. i was prolly incorrect on the engine overcoming the flow of the turbo, it could happen if the turbo is too big also.

sounds beautiful, but personally the non vtec d16a6 is better fpr turbo because it dpesnt make power at 8500rpm like a vtec, instead their powerband is between 4-6000rpm which will give more torque and it will last longer aswell

However, a nice sohcVtec turbo setup is always nice...Like a gt30r on a nice built sohcVtec can do 450whp+ with nice torque...They r good " nag for ur buck " builds I guess.
