Getting everything that is important, clearing 8-Bowser's Castle all stages, all secret exits (except the 5-castle mini mushroom exit), using all of the warp cannons, picking up and spending every single star coin. Doing all of these tasks will give me 3 stars next to the player's file meaning 100% completed.

You mean 360 against your 362.

That's one level out of eighty, I mean it sounds like you heavily focused on that level alone and didn't do the previous levels in this segment (in other words, getting this stage flawless in the late part of the segment is difficult). The small star wasn't used for invinciblity but to run even faster, you might have found a better strat somewhere before or somewhere after the star.

I really don't think that this is the world record since you took no cannons. There is a cannon from world 1 to 5 and from 5 to 8. That would be the world record speed run.

What you've said only applies to a Warps run. This is a 100% run (noticed the title) which tries to unlock 3 stars next to the file as fast as possible, it's on Speed Demos Archive and it' is a World Record (for 100% runs of course).

It's segmented, but more importantly I used a good amount of saves to take advantage manipulating the overworld items (Red ? Box and Hammer Bros). This way I skip visiting nearly all of the red mushroom houses, saving a good amount of time.

A good example is getting a Blue shell from the Red ? Box in 1-Tower during segment 4.

To play as Luigi, Go to save file 2, On the back of your nintendo DS, You should see 2 buttons that should say "L" And "R". Now, Select your 2nd file, Press "L" And "R" At once. You should hear the game say, "Luigi." Now you can play as Luigi instead of Mario! Have an awesome day and hope this helped!

Basically this speed run is a 100% speed run which means you need to get everything. A 3 star icon next to the file prooves this but to get one you need to do the following:

* Clear 8-Bowser's Castle.

** Clear all stages, hidden exits and use all cannons.

*** Collect and pay all 240 star coins.

Wouldn't make a difference really since I need to find all of the secret exits except 5-Castle. The main exit is faster when having the star by 10 frames and using the shell to get a Star coin is very near the secret exit so throwing a shell would save small time as seen on the video.

But this is an 100% run so I had to take the warp pipe as it is the fastest order of Star coins to collect. This is not an Any% run. The TAS run did a test on collecting the star but it turns out to be slower by 10 frames.
