  • That's how it's done!!!!

  • Bloody awesome...what more could one say

  • such a joy to watch them!!!

  • I'm sure Chet is playing in the beautiful land of Heaven.I plan to get him to teach me one of these days.Doc will have a beautiful set of eyes.He hasn't seen anything since he was 1 yr. old. He's pushing 90. I hope he makes it to 120. (Joe G.)

  • Verry Happy

  • I'm scratching my head at the "dislikes". These people must not like anything...

    Seriously.

  • outstanding in every way!

  • It's too bad they didn't work up a bunch of albums/ 2 profoundly different styles but to say they merely complemented each other is an understatement. This was just like apple pie & Ice cream! Give me MORE!

  • @heycolslaw they did produce at least one album, had it on vinyl don't remember the name but it was great

  • no matter when you were born you have to take your hat of to this it will always remain a value

  • WOW!!!!

  • NICE

  • They are already there...

  • It's So Relaxing...

You feel free when you listenisng to this :)

    So good feeling...

  • acoustick sweep picking wow....

  • Absolutely the best stuff I ever heard! Fabulous! Thank you!!

  • The best of all worlds when it comes to guitar. Both are master of guitar. Chet has the edge in that he can look down at his guitar for referance. However Doc has the keener ear as to how it sounds.

  • My favorite two pickers of my youth, who knows without them I problably would a plumber or electrician or something that pays well but is far less fun.

    Thanks GUYS

  • whats the name of the song?

  • I'm On My Way To Canaan's Land

  • Doc & Chet, a dream come true, amazing videos

  • Thanks so much!!!

    Great post!

  • Awesome video featuring the best pickers ever. Chet gets my vote on fingerpickin but Doc has got to be the best ever with a flatpick.

  • Amazing video.... thanks for posting!!!

  • great video thanks !

  • I've used toothbrushes to make nuts (the guitar neck type that is) but never tried making a thumbpick.

    This is a real treasure.

  • I love the music here, but it's fascinating to see Toni Tenille! Does this mean this video is from her and her husband's show from the mid 70's? I honestly can't imagine any LA produced TV show featuring these guys on prime time!

  • what i would've payed to see this show.

  • Doc's son Merle was actually the better picker of the two. He died much too early.

  • yea he died too early, but when it comes to FLAT pickin Doc has no equal

  • indeed, Doc has no equal - Merle was good, Doc is better

    Vive Doc!!!

  • hmmm Doc is awesome no doubt... may I suggest Lester Flatt

  • Legends...

  • This is one of the great musical duets. The original studio version is on "Relections" now available on CD.Doc's complementary picking in the background is tasteful, and as always, very clean. He is and excellent finger picker as well.I'm guessing he didn't want to try that up against Chet though.

  • all I can say is WOW!

  • cool

  • Two National Music Treasures! Timeless...

  • Did chet just sweep pick! awesome

  • is chet playing a Nylon string guitar?

  • looks like

  • He usually did from what i've seen.

  • yea its a gibson chet atkins model

  • didn't know gibson made an acoustic chet model, they made the electric ce and cec

  • You're correct. Gibson didn't make a totally acoustic Chet guitar. The guitar looks like Chet's old Hascal Haile.

  • Yeah Chet and Jerry Reed Both ussually played nylon string guitars when they played acoustics. Probably because it was easier to pick with your fingers considering back in the day all you had was those damnable barb wire strings made by Black Diamond. BD makes a much better product these days.

  • Actually, Chet played nylon a lot to save his nails.

What's BD? Do you mean DR?

  • Black Diamond Strings = BD

  • I'm a little confused by this statement, cwknig2. By the time Jerry played with Chet, he (Chet) wasn't using any Black Diamonds. His acoustics of choice were Martins (usually a D-41 or D-45, both of these strung with Martin Bronze strings), and his favorite classicals: a Hascal Haile and a Hauser.

I DO remember playing with those stinking Black Diamonds in the early 60s!! Yuck! Terrible strings! Even new they felt rusty!! Oh, well, they suited the quality of guitars I played back then...heh...

  • yeah, I was saying thats probably why they played classical guitars instead of steel string guitars being as they both played with their fingers a lot.

  • Seeing Doc Merle and Chet in 1979 will always be one of my most memorable experiences. This tune in particular, taught me that gospel could shred.

  • They make it look so easy.

  • If you look at this when you start learning

    guitar, you give up immediatly...

  • Well yeah, If you're a coward.

  • great stuff

  • It don't get any better!!!!!!!

  • 3:00-3:12

  • Absolute musical perfection. They don't make them like they used to.

  • Great Duo. Holy crap at the sweep picking Chet does on classical!

  • Word!!!

  • thanks youtube, thanks for people sharing these videos, thanks for filling my heart with joy. Thanks.

  • Probably the best non-duo colaberation pair ever been on stage together! I loved it.

  • LOFL bentnosewp. White man music is right. Back when people could actually play f****g instruments.

  • That is so nice. Thanks for posting.

  • great song.

  • Want Cannan land be great with them there !

  • Isn't life funny. I was drunk and came across this and it touched my soul so much I started to cry.

  • The lady doing the interview is Toni Tennille from The Captain and Tennille... remember Muskrat Love?

  • was the interview person drunk...what kind of person hasn't seen a flatpick...haha. Doc and Chet were good though

  • Escellent !

    Terje Tangen

  • I met Doc Watson in Shade Gap, PA at a Bluegrass Festival in 1969, and we had a nice conversation about guitar players...his comment regarding Chet Atkins was: "THE technical Master..." Of course Doc too, went on to great acclaim-and success never changed him. Still a gentleman...he has one of the most beautiful baritone voices, full of depth and warmth and instantly recognizable. Chet is a surprisingly good singer as well!

  • what a horrible interview, haha.
