I played a Show in a Coffee house in '95 with Derrick on Drums - Used to play with Blink-182 at the Gas lamp in Sandiego. Lag Wagon way better - Blink bought T-shirts though. Heh

Derrick was probably the best punk drummer ever! I mean, just listen to some of Lagwagon songs like "Move The Car", "Rifle", "Lazy", "Bury The Hatchet"... Very technical drumming full of dynamics and quite a few polyrhythms, and yet people still name Travis Barker as the best punk drummer. OK, Travis IS good, but nowhere near as good as Derrick Plourde was.

Without a question, my biggest drumming influence! RIP Derrick!

@RandomDrumming Erik Sandin From NOFX is probs my top, i just think no one is faster with a single bass pedal, or or better at double timing any given part of any song. Plus his stamina is just ridiculous, a prime example of everything i just mentioned would be "The Decline" which is just outrageous for the for the first 7 minutes.

I agree. I think Travis is an excellent drummer, but I find that he's overrated and underrated at the same time. Overrated buy blind fans and kids (who don't know anything, or know very little about drums and drummers), and underrated by those who despise Travis for being overrated. :) I'm somewhere in-between and I can see (hear) that he HAS excellent skills and some great ideas for beats and fills.

I just like Derrick's jazzy/progressive style better. :)

I can't agree with you there. I never heard anything from Dave that left me wondering what the hell did he just played. Derrick did this to me several times - as I already mentioned "Move The Car" (where he demonstrates some really good dynamics and linear drumming stuff), or "Rifle" (pure musicality, speed and stamina).

IMO, Derrick was way more versatile than Dave. Listen to Mad Caddies album "Rock The Plank", and you'll hear why. :)

When Double Plaidinum came out, I hadn't even heard about it. I remember my girlfriend saw it in the store and bought it for me. When I opened it up I remember being completely crushed because I had no idea what happened to Derrick. That's why I know this. Of course, it turned out that Dave Raun was a badass, too.

In 2005 the drummer, Derrick Plourde, commited suicide. He manic depression and had prolbems with drugs.

The band also had to put up with him discovering he was skyzophrenic,it was nobody s fault ,just a very hard time to go thru,still know and every day the worst,() I imagine,i remember meeting them and how weird Derek was ,he was very smart and talented thaugh,R.I.P.Derek Plourd One of the best drummers out there ever.
