Andy is the funniest man in America. Great humorists get their best material from life experiences and his crafting of this tale is a work of art. Fabulous!
(I hadn't thought of it for years, but the several references to the bag of shit reminded me of the classic line from Firesign Theater ".... But it's really great shit, Mrs. Kresge!")
I'm glad youre still here. I'm biting my nails as I go under the knife next month. HOWEVER. RE: the illeostomy propoganda magazine and lady. Those are aimed at those who will never "return to the land of the normal" to help them cope with a difficult surgical aftermath.
Thanks, Andy, for this story. My brother died 10/29 from a totally unexpected illness and I am thankful to hear a real story about uncertainty and doctors that are not forthcoming and odds that are difficult. My brother put up a hell of a fight, but in the end he did not win. I am glad you did.
Andy, Andy, Andy... thanks for this. Pretty much same thing happened to me four years ago: married just 6 months, laparoscopic colon resection, things go very badly, sepsis, gutted like a fish, woundvac, ileostomy (6 months for me, plus two - count 'em, two - hernias), prolapsed stoma. Got fixed up and lived to tell the tale, but not nearly as well as you. God bless you. Have a lovely Thanksgiving.
pg 2,,, just recently they advise U not to have surgery in July. NOW THEY TELL ME. That's when all the wanna b drs. use you for "show & tell". There were nurses who helped keep my sanity, bless them, otherwise many of the residents would not have lived. I also sported a temp SOS, due to a nick in my colon. It was a long haul, but thanks to family & friends, I'm still here also. My favorite time of day?? SEEING THE SUNRISE,, IT'S BREATHTAKING, GOD BLESS
You brought back memories of a situation I was involved in some yrs. ago. The 3rd surgery performed on me was a "freebie". I'm guessing they thought that would make me feel better about the whole thing. Oh, plus they took my appendix just for good measure ( doesn't serve any purpose anyway). Just something nature threw in for WTF. So my two week stay in hospital stretched to two months. But no matter what they did to me, I was determined to live. I learned a lot of patience, 2 B continued.
As like everyone else here, I love Andy's missives. Congrats, Andy, on beating this and sharing it with your usual witty sense of humor. I'm just glad you're here to tell the tale.
Great story from a harrowing experience, Andy. I'm so glad it turned out well. I was sure that in the end the 2 things you would do while lying in bed in the morning were to gaze upon your beautiful wife and to pass gas. Wrong again. BTW, I lost a kidney 3 yrs ago to cancer -- big surprise! -- but now find I only get half as pissed off.
I guess what separates the amateurs from the professionals is one's ability to NOT laugh along with the audience while they are laughing at what you just said.
Great stuff as usual from Andy.On the other hand give me a break Pierre. You're the kind of guy he'd make fun of. Move back. Leave Florida. EVERYONE will be happier.
What an ordeal Andy--my friend went through that same colon twist--and he almost did not make it--doctor did not think he'd make it. My son had the same situation and his doctor had wait and see approach while drains were implanted in him and up his nose--horrible(he hated it)--two days later the twist gave up and straightened out. In conclusion you lived through a life/death experience. So happy you lived to tell the saga as the great comedian that you are. Love and kisses to you.
aha, I liked it, but was totally expecting one of the two things he does every morning is to go to the washroom , drop his pants and let out a monster shit
The midtown reference cracked a lady up.

Andy grew up as a neighbor to my family and a friend to my brother. Can't believe his success, but so proud of him! Always a nice guy too.
