I think this is Mogwai's magnum opus . This album had no single word uttered in it. The band members said this was an accomplishment since in all their previous works, they felt that the music was not communicating everything, so they needed to add some vocals. Well, I can say for sure that no words can describe what my heart is going through right now.
its said that people who like this kind of music have a lot of space in their minds or in other words are "spaced", this music gives potential for people to make more space in their minds, for what people use thier space is their own decision
@nosocom no, i believe he's referring to the expansion of thought and consciousness, however, i have been known to be incorrect... maybe it's all that "space" floating around in my cranium
they've said in interviews that there song names usually have no significance. they just use random things that friends have said that they thought were funny
To me it isn't just a pleasant coordination of sounds. Music never should be only that. It's not something for organized dancing. It's a 5 minute time frame where you let go of all that is real to you and feel nothing. You let go of life and love and become the song for just five minutes. And it's so great you just have to replay again and again because you can never get enough. Who needs a drug if you can feel this way?
@Vertsk8er419 I don't think it needs more exposure in as much mainstream media, so much as a more widespread appreciation. Most everyone who listens to or knows of Mogwai enjoy their sound, enjoy their music. I just wish they'd get played enough so that people would have a chance to truly enjoy them.
I am 33 years of age. Mine has been a life of lament; I've decided poorly on many matters of grand consequence. Another great tragedy of my existence has been the absence of the music of Mogwai in my life until this day. Wowee.
Nice conversation going on here. People will accept whatever is thrown at them if it is marketed well. How else do crappy songs end up on our radios while masterpieces like this remain obscure? How else do shitty movies get the Oscars? We don't need to loose faith in the quality of stuff that geniuses still produce. We just need to dig deeper to find it. Fuck the Grammys. Fuck the Oscars. Fuck mainstream!
Xyling; You are correct sir. Great comment. I love Mogwai. For me it's always been the music. I do enjoy songs with maningful lyrics but I do like how wih mogwai it cause's an emotional reaction with just music. Sometimes words can't describe certain feelings.
favourite track on the album, second half of the song is indescribably rousing, like something momentous is spreading and snowballing... outstanding album too, mogwai grows on me like nothing else i know; brilliant
Who wants a Grammy anyway? All it symbolizes is popularity, and popularity has nothing to do with creativity or talent. Payola still exists, polished image pop groomed for the radio and MTV makes money and wins awards, but it is vacuous, banal, tripe.
@xyling It's strange to know that there are still people out there who are into chart music. I mean all this time I thought it was peer pressure ... and I do see it as a valid judge of character - if you can't hear real music; you can't hear shit, YOU ARE SHIT, hit the bricks, pal, and beat it 'cos you're not worth knowing.
The amazing thing for you and others is that they have been going to this high standard for many years so you have some cracking music to discover... just make sure you buy some of it rather than download - Mogwai are not a band who make a ton of money and they need our support.
@EscapeFromBox This song is so underated and I have no idea why they dont play it live . To me this is the best song they have done . This song and kings meadow are my fav .

One of the best songs ever.
It makes me feel so warm inside ...
But also fills me with a strange melancholy.
Well... its Mogwai (:

Who would dislike this song? ARE YOU DEAF!!!??
keeeeeitho 10 months ago 4
I let the speakers spill the musical goodness, climb on my bed and lay down.
I think about my sadness and the reasons for it, it makes me curl up in a little pile of concentrated emotion.
I get swept in the song and let go of everything, i thank God for letting me get up and past these hard times. It fills me with overwhelming joy.
The feeling is bliss.

the song is about a girl's fight against fate...
her destiny is set out 0:00 - 1:15. there is no escaping its clutches.
at 2:40 she breaks down the walls of fate.
at 3:30 she has a moment of realisation and changes her present. new rules are being made. the barriers are down.
as the song reaches its euphoric climax (4:44) you join her in the realms of possibility.
at 5:00 death marches behind, chasing her soul, reminding her she is still a slave to time.
