what a band! probably the most under-rated of all the british 60's pop band. the move were up there with the kinks, the stones and the beatles. fantastic. roy wood - genius!!
:o)# Wonderful Too bad the sound is a bit oversaturated. But it probably is taken from a monoaural old VHS so quite old. Still this is far more enjoyable to me than a synced one with perfect sound from a CD!
Fabsolutely abulous! I've never seen this before...where was it recorded? And I never realized Trevor sang the second half of the bridge...what a great performance, thanks for posting it!
mikejaz2, this was recorded in Germany for the TV show "Beat Beat Beat". There's another post of this very performance on youtube with better sound and picture. Apparently, this and other performances by The Move and other bands are available on DVD from the UK.
Actually they had four lead vocalists, though only three feature on this clip. Trevor Burton sings lead on Weekend, Something Else, Vote For Me and several others - sounding very similar to Carl, but a wee bit throatier. Quite hard to tell them apart sometimes.
timmehfz: why so surprised that they could play so well live? That was how ANY band worth a damn built their career in the 60s. They had to be capable of a high standard of stage performance before they were given even the sniff of a recording contract. That's why so many of those artists have lasted so well, and seen off so many younger rivals who didn't pay their dues.
actually the debate over backing tracks and lip synching continues all over youtube (as in who did it and who didn't).... a lot of british invasion era bands, and 'classic' rock bands were stuck doing it because of the practices of live tv.
Were you in the band? Do you know him? Did he refuse to give you an autograph? LOL

Incredible. They would have been as big as The Beatles but they never had a hit here in the U.S.
Roy Wood is a true genius.

Don't ever overlook the brilliance of Bev Bevan! Oh, and while I'm here, Carl Wayne RIP. What a voice!

That was Ace Kefford, not Trevor. Trevor took over on bass after Ace left, but he is playing rhythm guitar in this performance and doens't sing lead.

it's different enough from either recorded version that it can't be lip synched. awesome...
is carl wayne the guy who's doing the theramin-like back up vocals ?
mikebott 4 years ago
if you mean the guy at 1:10, that's the lead guitarist and leader roy wood, without his wizzard beard and rumplestilkin hair.
much much younger here.
