I don't have a copy of "State Songs" however of the two I've heard: This one and Pennsylvania, I prefer Pennsylvania. I's composed more intelligently, I feel.
One thing about this song is that Linnell hits a high F#. Impressive. That's the end of his range, I am thinking.
I tend to randomly sing this at friends while staring at them just to creep them out. The lyrics are more of Linnell at his finest. Like interpretive works of art with the most cohesively unique ideas in song writing. But weird as hell. I cannot fathom the thoughts going through the heads of the audience who happened to attend this taping.
Wow, I never caught this back in the day. I did see Linnell twice on that "State Songs" tour, though. Memories. Thanks for uploading.

One thing I disliked about this performance: he resolves the chord at the end. Montana is /supposed/ to be left on an awkward note.

At 2:20 he reverts to how he must have sounded in 7th graded. Y'know. The word "down" deserves extra treatment.

The drummer is great. What's his name? He should be playing with TMBG.
