@1thruZ i`m chinese and i dont think china is committed to captalism, it`s more of pragmaticism. and the chinese gov doesnt do all the spending by the way, the private sector has occupied at least 70 percent of china`s GDP.

"where we naturally belong"........China's embrace of market ideology does not equal its embrace of Western free market ideology but more so of pragmatism separating truth from facts in how theory operates in reality. Also, Chinese culture for a few millennia have had a strong cultural sense of its commerce, trade etc. etc. why else are Chinese businesses all over the world on average quite successful. Also for the past 20 centuries, China has been on top economically for at least 15 of them!

i usually respect ferguson's opinions, but his opinion on this one about the chinese is unfounded.....what they hv is socialism not capitalism and starting a business in china isn't easy.

it's similar to Taiwan, they have a dual track economy, one highly competitive and entirely privatized, the other is state-controlled strategic key industries. It's socialism with chinese characteristics.

And CHINA is now the World Leader in Renewable Energy Manufacturing.

Senator Obama during the 2008 Prez Election literally said- the Country that becomes the leader in Renewable Energy will be the Global Economic Leader.

At the time in 2008 & 2009, China wanted NOTHING to do with it. Then got serious, saw how right Obama was and are NOW the world's leader.

When journalist asked Obama about it, he said, they have a Command Based Leadership & don't have to fight congress to get it done.

I also disagree with your insinuation that decentralized-based leaderships can't get serious about renewable energy...most of the countries that produce the most amt. of renewable energy are democracies

@saugeen3000 democracies yes, just different manifestations of democracies which the current form that USA has (which I personally would argue is plutonic and not democratic AT ALL) cannot. I would also argue that culture overrides political systems and it forms the basis of how political arenas of different countries operate. Had China been put through Western democracy, it would've messed up

I think Niall is right about somethings and wrong about others... but he is DEAD SET RIGHT about this. And the American Piece of the global pie is gonna shrink as China and India get stronger. IT's a FACT of life.

But NO US politician can say this FACT without being SLAUGHTERED. We all have to listen to sarah palin with her pom poms talk about how Jesus blessed the USA... or how Jesus blessed only the real Americans living in the REAL Parts of the Real America.
