  • OMG ...

    I luv BjörK

    She's so amaziiiiing ...

  • It's It is a classic album of wonderful remixes, timeless wonder.

  • amazing!! she's my hero. <3

  • such odd lyrics, hmmm wonder what she was thinking when she wrote this.

  • "need more crack!" XD

No seriously, I LOVE THIS ^^

    bjork ftw! <3

  • it's about to grow up with someone you love, and marry with it, isn't?

  • it's about child abuse. bjork said so herself.

  • it's particularly about a 5 year old and a fifty year old man......and "relations"

  • Oh shit! You've totally killed it for me.

I used to have visions of kids playing in the snow and laughing when I heard this song.

It doesn't sound the same anymore....

  • what a minxs.........

  • when I hear that tune I feel one thing: Melancholy. Miss the 80´s

  • Yea me too, I dont think there was anything bad bout the 80s. lol apart from the miners, maggie and flourescent orange and lime green socks!!! but as a yoof i didnt give a flying bout them an just loved every minute.

  • Nice to see clips from Reykjavik, Iceland. I have visited the capital and recognize some buildings. Very interesting and fascinating country that is, but too bad they are in that dire economic situation now.

  • bjork is my girlfriend

  • xanfus you lucky devil..lol...yeah right!

  • bjork is my wife, the cheating, lying vindictive bitch!

  • Bjork is my misstress

  • bjork is my sister and i married venus as a boy

  • Bjork has the same birthday as I do...so i think that qualifies me to officially rate this song a 5....

  • Her face at 3:28 is probably the best thing ever. xD

  • That is possibly the cutest snarl ever.

  • i like the face at 3:05 better..

  • Just enjoy the song/video and stop having a nervous breakdown over the lyrics.

  • sugarcubes where lucky to found vocalist like bjork

  • my ears came

  • when this video came out and I said I loved it anyone said I was weird.. so proud to have recognize her talent far before the others :)

  • amazing voice

  • i find it funny that both Bjork and Tori Amos were both chicks in a rock band before they went solo. although i like the Sugurcubes way more than Y Kant Tori Read :p

  • She lives in this house over there Has her world outside it Scrapples in the earth with her fingers and her mouth She's five years old Thread worms on a string Keeps spiders in her pocket Collects fly wings in a jar Scrubs horse flies And pinches them on a line Ohhh... She has one friend, he lives next door They're listenening to the weather He knows how many freckles she's got She scratches his beard
  • She's painting huge books And glues them together They saw a big raven It glided down the sky She touched it Ohh... Today is a birthday They're smoking cigars He's got a chain of flowers And sows a bird in her knickers Ohhh... They're smoking cigars They lie in the bathtub A chain of ... flowers
  • She has one friend, he lives next door

    They're listenening to the weather

He knows how many freckles she's got

    She scratches his beard

    oh god!!!

    and she's five years old?

    creepy song

  • yes it can be interpreted as being a little creepy i suppose.

but maybe it's just our own sentiments being projected onto some rather innocent and innocuous lyrics

  • The first Bjork song I heard was Venus as a boy, in the film, Leon The Professional. A story about a 12 year old girl and a proffesional killer. This song was well suited for the film as well.

  • i don't think it's about a five-year-old and an older man having a relationship. i think it's just about the girl fantasizing about him. as for the freckles and smoking cigars... if it was just a kid fantasizing, they would actually make more sense in some ways. cuz' no one could ever actually count all your freckles and no one would actually give a five-year-old a cigar

  • I know you don't think it's so..

    but it is.

  • Eek. Did she say so herself

  • wooow!! tmbien esta buena con

    the mars voltaa

  • wooow muy buena cancion>>>>

  • yup and she has a child with an american who her son is now 21 and daughter about 6 years old

  • I think that this song and video is cute :]

  • this song is disturbing.

  • uhm okay..

  • well, the idea of a five year old and some adult man being involved in a sexual manner is disgusting.

i like the sone artistically but......

    that makes me wanna hurl.

  • i had this on single when i was a teenager and never noticed the meaning (naive?) anyway its not so cool now that i see it

  • lol

i had a tough time figuring out what it meant. i could only make some sense of it, for awhile.

bjork's own comments on the song kind of helped. a bunch of other fans claim to have been able to tell what it was all along.

  • he knows how many freckles she's got...

  • Never knew there was a video...

so awesome. Probably my fave song of all time.

  • as long as there is sound and the ability to play it back... there will be Bjork`s voice

    ...right/wrong?

  • My cousin passed away in Iceland in 1998 and this song is a great tribute to his legacy.

  • "My cousin passed away in Iceland in 1998 and this song is a great tribute to his legacy. "

His legacy? Did he have a beard?

  • this is like, the coolest song in the world

  • Love the Sugarcubes, thanks for posting this.

  • just heard this song in a hotel. i just remembered the lyrics and figured i download it. that yell is soooo passionate & unorthodox at the same time. it's like she's singing voilently in the shower..lol. great tune though!...

  • This is a great trak, even occasionally staying in key!

  • like the sugarcubes purely because bjork's the lead vocalist she is so gorgeous. love her to bits.

  • i love they way she opens her mouth.

  • really awesome

  • Interesting. I´ve listened Björk, but not the Sugarcubes. I recognized most places in the video.

  • the mars volta did the best remake if this song. but i love it in all!!

  • i don't like this one...

    i prefer Bjork today...

  • DELICiOUS demon

  • The band is called Sugarcubes. Not Björk and the sugar cubes. Björk was just a member of the band. Dummy.

  • muy buena rola, pero el video clip esta algo culero por estar tan viejo, ademas bjork es la que mas rifa xq se la come pa' cantar

  • man i love bjork soooo much!!! GO B!!

  • This woman never ages. Seriously!

  • yeah!

  • I used to have a friend that looked exactly like her. When I first met my friend, I thought "OMG, she looks like Bjork". Well we lost touch with each other and now I wonder how she's doing. So there are Doppelgangers in this world.

  • Doppelgangers certainly do exist. There are physical, mental and, astral dopplegangers. The physical ones can reside in pararell realms to occainally meet in choice circumstances.

I have engineered my own mental dopplegangers to continuously run a conjecture on what the future holds for man kind. I'm going to publish a copyrighted procces on it soon.

  • Are you insane?

  • I'm just iniated to the prevailing madness out here in the world. It makes me immune to clouded perceptions that this insanity offers. Most people invite insanity into themselves because the truth is just too brutal for them.

No I have only toughened my resolve to know that as a human I have very limited perception compared to other creatures on this marble. Therefore I have limited knowledge of this world.

Just because a human consensus assigns the insanity label, does it truly apply?

  • freethinkers are u like ripples in the sea, growing shrinking but always fading the repeating.

  • "racecar" spelled backwards is still "racecar". Grays, Planet X, 2012, and the Democratic Convention be damned...

  • Everyone has these thoughts. You're not interesting.

  • Why is everyone pissing on original , or at least creative, thought, and then promoting labeling and insults? It's B.S.. Don't let the idiots get to you, Aug.

  • Props sharkgod999.

    Much love.

  • whats the difference between birthday and ammæli?

  • birthday is sung in english, ammæli is sung in icelandic

  • thanx.

  • Nothing. Same song, different tongues.

  • yay!!! sugarcubes!!!!

  • My favourite song from Sugarcubes!

  • such a wonderful song

  • I wish italy could have some clouds from iceland in this hot summer

  • i'm glad this song found its way into my ears.

  • thank god for 120 minutes for introducing me to the sugarcubes, lol. I was instantly captivated. coldsweat only sealed the deal.

  • i have to thank youtube, i was too young for 120 minutes :)

  • Bless all you sweet folks :) we are few in this world whos hearts swell with joy over so innocent & honest an expression

  • The first time I heard this song was in 1991 when I was in college at Seton Hall University. It made my whole world spin. And like the comment below me, I would crank my stereo to ridiculous volumes and just stare at the ceiling and cry from joy. This song just gives me chills....still.

  • i second that

  • back in college i would crank this util my speakers just distorted and then i would back it off one. im probably a different person now than i would have been if id never had heard this song

  • happy birthday

    onnellinen!

    *yksi*

  • i think she´s the female version of robert smith!... by the way AWESON song!

  • i never heard this song when i was a kid but it remembers me when i was a kid somehow very happy days

  • brilliant song! still gives me chills after twenty years...

  • the first time i heard this my head fell off

  • haha

  • trippin on acid sugarcubes

  • Bjork = Yoko Ono w/talent.

  • indeed!

  • i didn't like this song at first. and that's weird cause i loved every other sugarcubes out the bat. my brain finally awoke from its coma and now i love it.

  • Dang, bjork is the future...

  • it reminds me of a great film called tideland

  • She's so revolutionary..

  • Happy Birthday Meaqhan

  • I love this song.

The best art doesn't give you what you want.

People say here that it's about child-abuse because of some of the images, and they infer a larger story from it.

But you can only go by what's in the song, and the lyric gives only a child's impressions. The music is nostalgic.

If it is a sad song, it is because the singer is nostalgic for how she felt as a child. Which is poignantly conveyed.

  • it is about child abuse, not nostalgia for how she felt as a child

  • Björk herself said that it was just a 'tasteless pop song about a little girl who has an affair with a man nearing his 50th birthday'. don't look too deep into it.

  • johnfish1, I keep hearing that story all the time.

  • No wonder we don't get it...the lip movements are off. LOL!

  • The first time I heard this was in 94 when I was a dj in college. I heard it on record the first time, and the pops and cracks absolutely make this song.

  • I really wish i saw this while i was on crack.. This video is so "wtf", but i love it.

  • beautiful and yet creepy. The song is about a 5 year old having an affair with an older man. "Scratches his beard" " lies in the bathtub" 'Sews a bird in her knickers"

  • i still dont get "sows a bird in her knickers." can you explain wat that has to do with a love affair?

  • it means ejaculation or flying love/ vajina

  • I think in this case he means he draws out sexual thoughts in the girl, though she is just 5 years old.

  • probably one of the most original sounding records ever released/absolutely fucking awesome/

  • much maligned, fucking awesome.

  • elle a lair tres jeune! elle est tres joli bjork!!!

  • i love her <333333333333

  • damn what a vocal range...she is friggin awesome.

  • Bjork, I love u as much as anybody can love somebody they don't know.

  • well said

  • haha ditto :)

  • wow, I agree, I always said she's the one person I haven't met that I'd marry in a heartbeat.

  • is bjork singing ??? :oo

  • she was 22!!!...

  • this song is so powerful, and evokes lots of childhood memories.. adventures and fun..

  • oh fuck it makes me cry again.

  • ke guapa , siempre estqaras dentro de mi korazon

  • tu madre chocha sucio!!!}

    i´m a maniac, maniac jajajaja

    idiot!

  • you're a shame to your country.. dumbass.

  • man , watching this video with my mates, when it 1st came out left us all slack jawed and star gazing , god bless and thanks bjork for all these years of mind / imagination stretching music + videos

  • mars volta does the most badass cover of this on the volta command myspace page

  • This song is about child abuse

  • no it is not.

  • ??? :o

  • its nice but i cant hear her voice so well but its ok~

  • bjorrk rocks !!!and im only 10 and i know her

  • Each member of the Sugarcubes was a well-educated person exposed to a lot of culture. If its so sad, then why are they all chilling out in the Icelandic Hotsprings having a blast? We all have a crush on our parents or an older relative or neighbor when we are growing up and to sometimes fantasize about them innocently. I think thats all its really about. This tune came out when I was 14-1987-I've never heard child rape in the lyrics, personally. And I forgot how GORGEOUS this vid is!

  • BJORK ROCKS!!!!!!!!!I listen to her music and im only 10 turning 11

  • Hey lemonhead, you rock for loving this and finding it at your tender age. Keep it up!

  • thanks i have 3 of bjorks cds i think bjork is an insperation

  • Cool, I'm not the only one. =) I'm 13 years and love Björk, too.

  • yes none of my friends know her i only talk about her with my teacher from 4th grade and now im in 5th grade going to 6th

  • hey do u have any of bjorks cd and how do you do the symoble for her name??

  • yeah, good work! i'm 15 now, but fell in love with bjork when i was about nine. it's only now that i'm discovering her older stuff and the sugarcubes.

  • I love this song..<3 Björk is wonderful!

  • This song truly inspires.

  • Quest!

    The Seer-ess has Seen

  • it is a very sad song. very sad. :) i agree with the previous comment. :)

  • IT IS READ IT LOOK UP METAPHOR GO BACK AND READ AGAIN.

    ONE LOVEe

  • I think this is easily the sadest song I have in my collection. For anyone who doesn't know it's about child molestation

  • tell me how, i read the lyrics but i dont see it. show me what i missed.

  • I hope I don't seem pretentious. OK, at the end of the first verse to start is "She's five years old", not the most cryptic of lines huh? "She scratches his beard" shows he is quite alot older cause 5 year olds at least I know don't have beards. Now their ages set it continues to have "Sows a bird in her knickers" doesn't sound innocent "They're smoking cigars" probably couldn't make cigarettes fit and "They lie in the bathtub" is pretty weird. The raven and flowers are almost also symbolic.

  • i guess i can see it now, it was a little too obscure for me, thanks tho, and no you dont seem pretentious to me

  • Not to mention: how does he know how many freckles she's got? I have freckles that can't be seen when I'm clothed.

  • because they are in love, and not know each other, but are each other

  • It is, actually it's more about Bjork/narrator having an enfatuation about an older man, she's said so herself. Not that they're based on real life events or anything, it is a joke band.

  • I know it's been 2 months but I was just thinking about this comment and I know your right, but the song doesn't really tell us that. But I was thinking how funny it would be if the old guy was trying to pick some girls or something and said "You know bjork wrote this song about me", I bet they would walk away in disgust.

  • I agree completely. it's a very very sad song.

  • ohhhhhh bloody hell... cold shower time

  • I love this song. Especially the vocals.

  • fuck it who cares?! people who love Björk will always love Björk, personally she is the love of my life

  • I've recently noticed that she doesn't excite me nearly as much as she did 10 years ago. My guess is that the fearlessness is gone once you have a child to protect. That experimental fearlessness was the source of her magic. It's easy to throw it all to the wind when it's just you. I guess when I "read" her older work, I keep seeing a naivety that tells me that I ought to wake up because our destination is passionless mediocrity if we don't kill ourselves quickly enough. Please defeat this.

  • No, Artists change medulla was probably the most experimental work she ever did. It just was pretty bad for me and assume most of the fans of her earlier music. Her time with the sugarcubes was much more pop orientated and mainstream really. It's probably also factor that you liked the indie appeal and now everyone is "oh I want to fuck bjork" it ruins it, and it does.
