the beatles did because they said that they were bigger than jesus. the stones however, didn't. and one of the beatles songs said turn me on dead man.
true!!! king diamond was inspired by Alice Cooper for the painting... which was suposed to have a choking kind of thing... of course... king diamond... does't scare anyone anymore...
the satanic element really came from mercyful fate. venom simply coined the term "black metal", which is why many people invented it. same with possessed and their song "death metal"
im not really sure where kiss comes in, but i guess maybe thats where black metal got its "extreme show" facet like corpse paint and leather/spikes
Well, I first of all KISS isn't black metal at all so that automatically throws them out. Second I would say that Mercyful Fate definitely inspired the look of black metal. Third, I would say that Mercyful Fate's early days alongside Venom, influenced the sound of black metal just as much as Venom did. Most people give Venom most of the credit though since they coined the name of it. Mercyful Fate is every bit just as important to the sound of black metal as Venom. They're the first two to exist
neither, it was cesare from the movie THE CAVINET OF DR CALIGARY

i think King Diamond was the founder (frontman for mercyful fate)
of black metal.
He started "horror Metal"
which was later changed to black metal.

Mercyful fate. A lot of the old bands didn't dress up like that, and i don't think nazi black metal bands don't "dress up" at all.

Mercyful fate was probably the most important and Venom the second most important.
