The guy's presentation is creating negative comments, but look at Shawn Clement (the most popular golf teacher on.....). He has a couple of videos using the hammer as a prop in the same way, making the same points, but not one word of criticism - everyone loves him ! I think his videos are excellent too but don't knock Jay's treatment ; some of us like it and it's the message that counts !
Jay is a PGA professional, who happens to be on the PGA's national teaching committee. He is considered "golf's funnyman", and if you understand his creativity in using a hammer as a prop; then you can see he is talking about "impact". There is so much golf instruction out there, and finally we have someone making it simple.
It's a very good video - golfers spend so much time with the mechanics of the swing that it's easy to forget that the only really important part of it is to get the clubhead to hit the ball hard, consistently, and in the chosen direction. EVERYTHING else is just detail.
Aces and Twos-Arnold Palmer hit this way. He would most likely still beat you at 80 years old. I have posted many sub par rounds on a 145 slope par 73 rated course using this simpler swing. Thus eliminating 20 years of over-analyzed, contradictory, mind paralyzing, misguided golf instruction
Here's the problem. If you tell the average hacker (like me) to focus on the moment of impact, his timing is going to go to hell in a hand-basket. He'll start to over-use his hands and arms to 'steer the clubhead onto the ball'. Impact is the EFFECT of getting your RIGHT SIDE through the impact area, with the arms and clubhead catching-up and slinging through as a unit.

The carpenter isn't thinking about impact. He's thinking about getting laid.

@ddebois You Dummy. Palmer never hit this way. I have never seen a hammer reference been used to describe Palmers swing. Smarten up.
BTW add this Hammer idiot to to your list of misguided golf instruction.

But what about the hammer and the nail? Does the ball know the nail? Does the nail know that ball? Does the hammer know the ball?
