  • drummer is my cousin! :)

  • I have this 45; it mixed in nicely with all those Bobby Sherman and Monkees records! :)

  • this version has way more vibe

  • I always liked this version better than The Animals but didn't know who performed it. Thanks for posting this because no classic rock radio stations will ever play it.

  • It went gold in 1970 as a single (the ole 45 days, I had it) the same year they released it. Gold was a million singles in the 70s. Today it is just half of that. So I would have to say they made a buck or two for that day and age even though the record company were probably the real winners.

  • Haven't heard this version in an extremely long time but it sure sounds great still. The music matches with the words nicely. Sure wished I knew if the lead player was using a Fender Blender or not. Great work.

  • I had seen a picture of Spring Garden street down near the tressle before the start of what now is Considered Chinatown. Killer Septa Picture!! Nice!

  • fuckin montanans are the most backward people on this earth and this is the best version of this song. ever.

  • I think it was a bigger hit than the Animals version is was pretty big I remember that,. It's my favorite version because of the crunchy sound

  • @dennbb This version reached number 7, where as the Animals version reached number 1. This is a good one though!

  • @dennbb NO IT was n t , but i prefere this version ,

  • my cousin had this album we played this song till the grooves became a rut ,thx for posting

  • 6 people like the animals

  • BTO did the best remake version

  • I miss these times. Yea you can play the music today but to live when this music was a hit on the radio and in person . And the long hair hippie freaks can't be duplicated.

  • If you saw them at Sherwood Forest in Davison Michigan sound off.

  • One of the reasons it sounds better than the Animals version is because Frigid Pink does it in 4/4 time instead of 3/4 time like the Animals did it.

  • Give me 1970 and tremolo back.............please

  • @arai59 I'm sick and tired of distortion.... I want wah wah and tremolo!

  • Best version of this tune EVER!!!!!!!

  • A distorted fuzzy guitar wins everytime!!! Turn it up to 11.

  • Eric Burdon laid out the blue print , Frijid Pink constructed the building with this song!

  • dude I soooooooooooo wanna get HIGH !!!!

  • @snizz6913 yes so yes

  • My favorite version

This song is older than the light bulb

  • The guitar on this track are acid soaked. Really nice.

  • savage joe

  • One of the best versions--ever. Just heard this on a local radio station. Nice sound.

  • it was certified gold in may 70..this is my fav version

  • i say this wins instrumentally while the animals win vocally but i dont care i enjoy both.

  • I will stay with the Animals . Eric Burdon' singing is so powerful ....

  • If Frijid Pink had done this song first, nobody would ever mention "The Animals" and "House of the Rising Sun" in the same breath.

  • @MikesTomsBobsDad Hey Thank you!!!!!!!

  • esta cancion con estre grupo tiene un toque psycodelico chingon !

  • Bachman Turner Overdrive

  • Had the forty five when I was in fourth grade.

  • I've known them from the very beginning.. Excellent. Saw them at the Grande Ballroom in Detroit.

  • The animals > Frigid Pink

  • @YeezyNuk its with a J

  • this this this

  • Tihs is the best verson, it's better then the Animals and BTO versons, and you can take that to the bank.

  • @TinSoIdier What doe BTO stand for

  • IF ONE WANTS SOUL, IT'S THE ANIMALS VERSION. IF ONE WANTS ASS KICKING ROCK, IT'S FRIJID PINK.

  • Best remake of that classic. I'll never forget it. God I loved growing up in that era. I was a teen in the mid to late sixties and saw so many bands then at the Eastown, Grande, and Olympia in Detroit. Frickin' unbelievable!

  • Best remake of that classic. I'll never forget it.

  • yes , mine was the animals , then came f/p later

  • I have to turn the trebble up so high to replicate the sound of my Transistor , 9 volt , radio I had back then. Or maybe I'm loosing my hearing ? Lo-lyf 55

  • Hey don't forget Led Zepplin, CCR, Iron Butterfly, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, Jimi Hendrix, ect,ect

  • @TinSoIdier no one ever will

  • @MrBubbles0o0o I did.

  • @Nyquistic then you're and idiot with bad musical taste :)

  • I alwys loved this version better then the Animals version

  • We had this 45 when we were kids !!!

  • Great great song!

  • soooo...how many of you listened to this after taking the SYNC course? Only those that did will know what I'm talking about. :)

  • this song is like from 1840s originally before recorded music... pretty sure bob dylan did it before animals in recent years.

  • @valcarni1 Dylan did an acoustic version on "Freewheeling Bob Dylan" before the Animals did it. The chord progression had been revised from the original version.

  • ANOTHER "RADIO LUXEMBOURG "POWER PLAY" FROM THE EARLY 70'S (WHEN I FIRST HEARD THIS THOUGHT IT WAS A SINGER CALLED "RICHARD PINK! II HAVE THIS ON A DECCA ALBUM CALLED "WORLD OF HITS VOL.2" (USED TO COST 19/11D (BE ABOUT 90P IN TODAYS MONEY) FEATURING TRACKS BY ARTISTS WHO WERE ON DECCA OR DERAM LABEL (LIKED "ARRIVAL" AND CHRIS ANDREWS "TO WHOM IT CONCERNS") ALTHOUGH ALOT DIFFERENT FROM THE "ANIMALS" VERSION. STILL A GOOD VERSION

  • The days of grand funk rail road, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Black Sabbath, Crabbyappleton.Janice Joplin, Joe Cocker, 68,69 70!!!!!!!!!!! Transision years that were soooooo gooood! Oh yeah don't forget the Stones,Beatles,Doors, Black Flag,.......All just a mix I liked! Rock on!!!

  • Still digging it, after all these years.... from my hometown boys!

  • ive still got the original 45 which i bought as soon as i heard it.

  • I personally prefer this version to the animals one. It's not as classy but I like the guitar work in this one and the vocals are way better

  • Comment removed

  • 5 star's. Hardrock indeed this jam's!

  • I love this version, but Fred Turner totally takes it to the cosmos check out BTO...

    you will agree

  • been listening to this kick ass song since it came out and it has never gotten old. by far this is the best rock rendition of this song barring none. be a classic and staple in rock for years to come.

  • BEST VERSION EVER!

  • this is one hell of an amazing song, i may only be a kid, but i want this played at my wedding, reception, and funeral! nah im kidding about that...maybe just the funeral

  • LIFE LONG TO ROCK & ROLL. 40 YEARS AGO. PEACE & LOVE- RESPECT- BUÉN ROLLITO. LOS VIEJOS ROCKEROS NUNCA MUEREN.

  • Covers are always hard to sell. But when this hit the air the timing was perfect and these guys knocked it out of the park! IMHO this is likely one of the best covers of all time. They stayed true to the sentiment that Burdon intended and they did it without butchering it!

  • a latter day.... cream

  • Who remembers the live verson by Frijid Pink which was 21 minutes?

  • The BEST version... it has the hardness that the song and the lyrics deserve.

  • love this version way better than animals cuz it totally rocks and yes been rockin' for years aways good to go back and enjoy

  • totally awesome , mind blowing!

  • YES this is the best version, all my friends like the animals versons but this is the best. GOD is wish i could go back in time and stay there forever.

  • Fabulous heavy version that I remembered and returned to after decades ...

  • Fabulous heavy version that I remembered and returned to after decades ...

  • this song in 1970 pushed the Beatles off the number 1 spot on Chicago's WLS top 40 play list. these guys version of this tune would influence the 80's metal bands.

we played the hell out of this song on then Z-Rock.this song had a short life cause it ran into radio stations changing formats for Disco. thanks 74sodapop for putting up song, with the amount of hits, it seems that people still like "BALLS" in their music.

  • but why a picture of 'The Band' in there? 3'10

  • Original is always best, but this is probably the best offshoot of it.

  • @DevinTClark What original?

  • @charcar543

The original from god knows when. Easily before either of us were born.

  • @DevinTClark I know, I just think it's silly how many people think the Animals wrote "the original".

  • @charcar543

Animals did do a more famous and it's probably accepted by the majority that they did a better job then the original, I can see why people would think it being the originator of the song.

  • @DevinTClark

The Animals cover was the best in my opinion, but this song is an old song sung by hundreds of others. It did not originate with the Animals. You can probably find versions from the 40s and 50s on you tube.

  • @utahaztec

their cover was also one of the most famous, so I guess it's kind of lie Black Betty, most famous version is usually seen as the originator.

  • If you from Michigan sound off!

I saw them a few times at Sherwood forest in Davison...great years.

  • @keefer2111

Sounding off from Sault Ste Marie.

I have always loved this song by the Animals,

but this is an awesome version.

    Thanks for the share brother.

    Thumbed!

  • take nothing away from the animals but in a band playoff frijid pink wins hands down...;)

  • border line pic/sound..works for me!

  • animals one is more haunting but this ones just so heavy its sick

  • I like the animals version better... But frijid pink's is great!

  • Eric Burdon did a unforgettable job singing this song. But listening to the two groups, Frigid Pink wins hands down.

  • YOU BETCHA...

  • i liked the animal's version till i heard this one

  • 這個版本確實比較好。

  • @LinTzuYoung 我同意

  • Great upload, had the 45 as a kid.

  • @Chitown2701 I got the 45 on Ebay because I love this song, and they were from Michigan as am I so makes it more awesome, Michigan really is a rockin' state though, Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, Bob Seger, Frigid Pink, Grand Funk Railroad, Stevie Wonder.

  • @RushAnthem69 I always liked the Frigid Pink version, alot more than the one the Animals made.

  • The Animals sung House of the Rising Sun, but Frijid Pink, well gotta admit sung it better.

  • There is nothing wrong with being wrong. The Animals "own" this song, but this is a good version. I would agree, on recording, this guy sounds better than Eric, have you heard the compatitive live versions ?

  • Not a bad cover, but the original's got such a mean organ, it can't be topped!

  • @Shotgunnova - compared to that sweaty, mean, gritty, nasty guitar? Oh man - no contest!

  • @Shotgunnova What original?

  • When I was a kid I was blown away by this song. Couldn't get enough of it.

  • haha. gotta love the intro. back in 73? I heard that something called "pink" was coming to the providence civic center in Rhode Island. My friend thought it was this group and said they played a version of the house of the rising sun. I had one of the animals albums so I knew that song. So me and a buddy went to the concert. Turned out it was Pink Floyd. So, not a bad mistake.

  • i had this version on 45 when i was a kid..both versions are good but when i think of this song in my head its the Frigid Pink version i hear

  • I agree, this is the best version I've ever heard. The Animals' version was good, but this is great.

  • I first bought this album in 1970 on 8 track. It's still the best version.

  • I personally like this version more than the Animals, I like how these guys made this song sound their own, plus whenever I would think of "House of the Rising Sun" I always think of this version before I think of the Animals classic

  • this may be original but the animals version is much better. this guys vocals suck

  • I've always liked this version than the one by the Animals.

  • Holy sh*t this is awesome. I never heard this version before, but WOW.

  • I like this song!

  • I seen this band so many times I cant remember..they would show up at Sherwood Forest, North of Flint Michigan..Thats a few years ago.

    Great memories.

  • i have a single (lp) of this cover! :D

  • born in 77 ..i love this song we dont have musik like that anymore..please bring me in usa and get me out of here...this version its great ...stupenda fighissima ...cool

  • 1977SABBY: Like yer moniker: Iommi?? This song started as a "Delguello" the Feds 'n' Rebs would sing at each other, to freak each other out, before battle, in the Civil War! Speak about flingin' "heavy metal", along with those chatterin' Gatlings--whhoo!!

  • @BreezieStroke Actually this song came from England and is about a brothel. Know your musical history.

  • @sebasredspecialfan you arrogant prick

  • @sebasredspecialfan

How long did your Mom work there ?

  • @owl1970 What the fuck is wrong with you? I just posted a normal response. Wanker

  • I like the bassist in this song; reminds me of Heaven & Hell's Geezer Butler!! I'd looove to hear Tony Iommi and H & H do a medley on "House". Tony could incinerate the world(!!!!), doin' THIS, on his SG's/SG Types 'n' Laneys!! Yet, da Sabbs did this after a fashion--listen to "Snowblind", and a very similar chord progression emerges.

  • The 70's were a good time, I miss them..

  • I have always loved the Animals version but this is smokin. Will buy this now.

  • I have always much preferred this version. It's harsher, heavier and a little quicker - much more befitting of the lyrics.

  • The reason most of you like it is because you went to Mt Holly and Sherwood forest

and you saw them live, just like me and the thousands of fans out there.

    Dang great times,

  • The reason why I like it is cause I've heard it on the Classic Rock station from Music Choice and they were playing so much great music off of that station that it brings me back alot of great memories, I'm only 29 years old

  • Great song, definitely prefer this one to the Animals version anyday, wish this song would get more airplay on the classic rock stations considering this song has reached the Top 10

  • check out 0.55..now THATS! an ax.

  • Just as much a Rock Classic as The Animals version.

  • Animals and Frijid Pink.Love em both!!!!

  • nothing compares to eric burdon and the animals but frigid pink had a amazing way of getting the point across

  • @bbooz ... except when your first exposure to this tune was this specific version on a 45rpm and dot dot dot

  • Better than the original! I love it

  • @herbsnspices772 I assume that by the "original" you are referring to the version made famous by the Animals in the days of British invasion. Previous to that, it was recorded by Bob Dylan, and before that even, it is a frontier folk blues, originally about a young woman turned prostitute by the poverty stricken social situation of the rambling lifestyles and early settlement of America. However, yes this version kicks ass.

  • Thanks for that, I did not know but anyway it's great.

  • @herbsnspices772 No prob. I like weird music trivia...

  • @herbsnspices772 nahhhhhhhh. not at all.

  • @herbsnspices772 what original?

  • Frost mah nuts !

  • I had the 45 to this.

  • Oh yeah! Luv that fuzz man!

  • I agree. This is better than the original. :)

  • Better than the original version performed by The Animals...a great THANK YOU for uploading!!!

  • @BMCouncilOfNorway The original version is not the animal's =O. The original author is not even known, like most folk music authors.

  • @BMCouncilOfNorway You know the original isn't from the animals, right? It's a slave song, born in America in the 1880's..

  • okay,okay...anyone makes mistakes, but you'd better enjoy this version...I prefer it to the Animals version by far

  • this is psychedelic rock!!

  • ya good thanks for the clean copy

  • Frijid

  • Saw Frigid Pink in Flint, Michigan's Atwood Stadium mid 70's tripping on crystal T.

  • great !

  • I lived in Flint then, Going to GMI, now I live west of Lansing. great song even in Canada we rocked to the Pink.

If your from Michigan sound off!

  • Remember seeing this band live at Olympia Stadium in Detoit along with MC5, Bob Seger System, Ted Nugent and the Amboy Dukes, awesome 12 hour concert.

  • I remember this hitting all the radio stations.

    They are awesome band.

  • Man,I live in the 5 the biggest area of the USA...No radio station here plays this.

    Here,I return....

  • Go Wyandotte, Michigan (band's home)!!

  • Great to hear this again............first single I ever bought, and the best version to my mind, .........time to get the guitar out again!

  • The Animals did a better job. but this one is ok:)

  • I prefer this version it's much better than Eric Burdonis version, great guitar

  • Wow that was amazing, cant believe it's so much better than any other version ive heard.

    Thankyou Youtube once again

    Peace x

  • Eric Burdon's version was eons better than this for his vocals alone.

  • i agree....and Nina Somone's... those two versions are by far the best

  • I had not heard that version, but now I think it is indeed great. So much emotion and passion

  • yeah shes good... she sings the older version i think

  • You cannot find the LP single of this song for love nor money...its super rare. Thankfully my dad has one :D

  • Lucky you then !

  • thank u'r Dad , been looking for this one for many years.....Eric Burdon is a bum!

  • i bought it last year for 2 dollars...

  • good stuff. you have to appreciate the original though

  • there is no original

  • my opinion, this is the best version of this song ever

  • I like a lot of covers but I love this one and one done by a Aussie group of the same era It was eloner rigby but way better than the original just as this one is.

  • Yea...no disrespect to Eric Burdon either but this one just ....fukkin acid psycho-dellic...rules.

I never did acid in the 70s but listening to this made me wanna. Damn what was I thinking?

  • @CP240sx I agree! couldnt agree more. funny story,,, a few years ago at work, I heard this on their radio, I thought.. wow,,, this is a fast, metal version of house of the rising sun! I loved it! I just thought it was a live animal version. but, I couldnt find it. but, outta the blue a few days, I put in the search "fast metal version of house of the rising sun" i seen a few,,, then I clicked on this one.... I thought to my self,, this is it!!!! I found it!!!

  • Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and The Jimi Hendrix Experience will always be my all time 3 favorite bands. i dont compare them with each other because they along with everyone else are different. just let The bands say what they want and keep are own opinions and interpretations about them to ourselves.
