Unfortunately, this repair didn't work with my Swingline model. The thin piece of metal at the top is attached to the black clip in such a way that it can't be separated from it the way you demonstrate. This makes the repair a helluva lot more difficult and I had to use a special modified hemostat to get the damn spring in place before attaching to the slider goody.

I didn't have to ask my husband to fix something else for me! you empowered me! thank you thank you thank you!!! my model was a little different in that instead of the two holes to feed the spring through it is one hole and a small plastic rod that fits into two notches in place of the second hole - it was a little tricky getting the spring around that while keeping it in place but your process worked for me to.

Thanks! I fixed my Stanley Bostitch stapler using the same basic idea, although I couldn't do step 1. I had to use an unfolded paper clip to hook the spring and get it through one of the two holes.

I just knew that somebody out there on the internet had to have a "how to" for replacing that pesky spring . . . and YOU were it. Great Job, can you do one on how to replace the bottom part. I had a staple jammed and I accidentally knocked it off, a small spring came flying out with the piece that says"Use Swingline" High Performance.
