This is a quick and easy paternoster rig, and one of the easiest ways to tie it, I use it all the time, and great for reef and deep sea fishing, Check out some of our other how to videos
I've been told to use this rig for whiting in westernport on the leaving tide cos it keeps the line down but the bait up in the strong currents off corinella. Question is, is it safe to use a heavy weight with a lighter line on this rig? Forgive my ignorance, I'm new to fishing.
Everything is trial and error, but no reason wouldn't work with whiting, Downgrade the line to say 40lb, and a smaller 4 oz Sinker? Always try fish as light as possible with line weight and sinker weight. Also check with your local tackle shop and they'll put you on the right track for local conditions. Beauty with the paternoster rig is you have a couple of hooks, and can try different baits, depending what they're feed on.
I was tying this knot as you showed, but i found that my lines snapped real easily, for example, just a little of pulling stregnth, and there it goes, it snaps. It snaps at the knot for the hook, usually at the top of it, any suggestions?
Hi, may depend on the size of your line, we use 100lb, and was having that problem a bit with 50lb and 80lb, could be your line brand as well, as some are better than others for this knot. Make sure you go through three times, is better than two times, which I used to do. Experiment a little bit with it, and maybe use heavier fishing line or leader. Also checkout our advanced Paternoster rig, This is a great rig, and keeps the hook out square at right angles, although bit more to do. Cheers
Thanks, Great easy paternoster rig this one, and once you've got the hang of it, can tie very quickly, especially when the fish are on the bite, Great for deep sea or reef fishing deeper water,
Too hard to follow for me, It's always tough to show knots on youtube. Mono is hard to see & ya work a bit too fast for me to keep up with. Mainly I just can't see what you're doin, not enough explanation & your hands are hiding what you are doing at times. I only mean this to be constructive criticism, I certainly am not saying I could do a better job.
Mate great vid i use the same way for my daughter now she was getting a few snags with my rigs while drifting so have gone with the same method you use . The only difference i use is heat shrink in red colour over the eye of the hoojk to help with abrasion found this to be a great way for rigs lasting longer. And spot on with the comment about the 100 lb for 80 lb i went the way of 80 lb and seemed to lose a fair more decent fish with abrasion . Thanks mate
Its a good fishing knot, make sure you go through three times, lot stronger than two times. 100lb is definately better and doesn't seem to make any difference in our catch rates. Check out advanced twisted paternoster video, well worth considering, bit more mucking about, Thanks for the comments, Cheers Greg
we love the paternoster for reds...i caught my first legal red (70cm) on this rig. Live slimy mackeral was the bait. Will always use it now...i just need too learn to tie it myself :P...this vid will definately help.
Hi, Definately the easiest way I've come across to do the Paternoster rig, and can run with 1,2 or 3 hooks. Will post a more advanced twisted paternoster rig, which is well worth a look. But the above video and rig is fine for most situations,
Quickest and easiest way I've found to do the Paternoster rig, depending on the size of your fish, we've found 100lb to be best, we were losing some monster reds and Nannygai on 80lb line. Thanks for the comment,
i "like" every learning video...keep it up
