So your not "gypping" her your saving her life if you feed her frozen...and a snake that size should be eating medium rats or rats that are the same size around as your snake.. Also spraying the tank with a spray bottle is suggested to keep the humidity at the correct place.. don't spray it with a hose because that's over doing it but with a spray bottle is good. And that "marbley" thing is an eye cap .

The heat glands are for finding food and help her "see" in a sense... They cant see very well so sensing heat helps them know what they are going towards... also ball pythons should never eat live food.Since they are not venomous and not aggressive snakes, the size rat (and yes it should be a rat because mice do not get big enough) that the snake is eating must be prekilled /frozen because if its not it can easily injure or kill your snake.

If feeding live food and I don't think they can take it on such as causing injury, or damage as you put it, smack the mouse/rat against a board or concrete, kills it and the snake can eat it without getting scratched up by its nails. Usually the snake can constrict enough to where that isn't an issue though.
