  • 3:57 brings a tear to my eyes every time i think about a world without her.

  • lol if you think this song is about anything but weed you have to be retarded..like flat out retarded

  • It's funny how so many people are debating whether this song is about weed or a chick. Have you never heard of a metaphor or analogy? It's BOTH.

  • Cant even 150k views the world disappointing me :/ this needs way more than what its got !

  • new favorit song ♥

  • This song can really be about anything, I know I have friends who are heavily into drugs and even still, they compare this song as to that of falling in love and losing something you care about. I have cried from this because it was touching because I've felt this way about a friend who had passed away. However I do see the drug reference as well. But it's a beautiful song, with or without the debate it will remain to represent different things in an individuals life. So jump around :)

  • i could never run 2 miles high.... i would die.

  • sry aber ich liebe dieses lied immernoch das erinnert mich immer an unsere zeit un an den kuss un im zero un so

    war einfach sau toll

  • My university roomate went to highschool with Equalizer's bass player and lead singer(they're brothers) at Lower Canada College and he told me that the song is CERTAINLY about weed and JA stands for Jasper Alberta (Mountain Town)

  • @311Rekop they went to LCC? I nearly went there! but then I went to ECS and now I'm not in the country...

  • @EmeraldMalfoy1307 THEY'RE FROM MONTREAL? I also nearly went to LCC but I go to RWA :)

  • @emmadilemmasings Legit?! My BFFL goes to RWA! I was gonna transfer there but then we moved... so.... what grade (sorry if I sound like a creep, but u might know 3 of my friends...)

  • @EmeraldMalfoy1307 grade 9/sec 3.

  • this is honestly an amazing song so how bout you stop spamming it saying that it takes about weed.

  • @jjjjj1624

I agree this is an amazing song and youcan take whatever meaning you want from it. But if your honestly trying to say that this song isn't about the green your quite deluded.

  • @jjjjj1624 it is about weed you moron. "you can smoke two pounds of cali HERB" you can run 200 miles through a "GANJA FIELD" "MARY" is the first name of Mary Jane with is shorter for marijuana. dip shit

  • im in love

  • Mary = MARIhuana.. That's it, people..

  • the chorus says that you can smoke all the california weed you want but you still won't get as high as you were in JA

now he's older has no more family had a few mistakes in life but he remembers a time where he was truely happy (and high) so he went back to JA and went to the bar and asked the bartender for some weed but since then it was criminalized and everyone in the bar remember the time when they all smoked it

  • well think about it, it starts off in 1976 in Jamaica when he found that he liked mary (marijuana) contrary to what his mothers been telling him growing up (don't smoke weed, it's bad) she was a mountain girl (grown in the mountains)

boy when u first met met you were as green as a mango tree (you had some good weed before but now you've had real jamaican weed - now you're a man) ITS ONLY ABOUT WEED NO GIRLS AT ALL otherwise its a prostitute that every single man at the bar has slept with.

  • I'm on the prostitute bandwagon.

  • im david mullins, im gay

  • fav song since i was 20 and that a long time ago lol ok feeling old ...turning 40 this year ...................love this song ...cant wait to hear my son play and sing to it ....but got to go and wash my guys balls for him now ....hes calling

  • there are way more references to weed than just the chorus..

but no matter how many times you listen to it, you can never figure it out for sure.

its a brilliant piece of writing and music.

  • great tune.. one of my faves....

  • the only reference to weed in the song is how much you can smoke to try and forget Mary, who is clearly a girl he met in a bar and left behind after a year to travel. Don't be brain dead and think the whole sentiment of the song is a about dope

  • This song was sung by all my camp members this summer... We all went our sperate ways but this song always makes us think of each other :)

  • @ruby2brenna We (the counsellors) sing it at our camp, too! It's started to become tradition. ;)

  • @ruby2brenna do you go to kamp kanawana? we sang it multiple times every summer there

  • Comment removed

  • @420feist kamp kanawana is my true home. i think we sung this several dozen times this summer

  • @Michisandy

oh no way you went last summer? which sessions?

  • @DC70W 3rd I'm pretty sure, you?

  • @Michisandy 2nd 3rd 4th

    CdeB

  • @420feist which years did you go?

    shit I could know you

  • @ruby2brenna wow you sound gay lol

  • haste toll gemacht mein großer =) lg de kleene

  • This song makes me realize there's so many things that we won't understand in this world, but that there here for us to love,

The Herb has brought a certain spice to my life and my girl a surreal love that will never Fade.

whether he's talking about a women or the Green Fiend or a fucking cloud in the sky

who cares really it's all about the feeling in your heart right?!?

    Enjoy :)

  • they are a candian band

  • Prop 19.

  • Does anyone know anything about Equalizer? It's impossible to find anything about this guy on the internet because searches for equalizer or equalizer music just turn up recording gear or software.

  • @losermonster Equalizer is a band hailing from my hometown of Montreal, Canada. Sweet Mary is the only song of its kind that they do, they are essentially a reggae band made up of some jewish kids that went to my old school. They broke up a while ago and the lead, Chris Velan, went on to start a solo career. Its a shame really, they only got to release one CD. Still my favorite song of all time

  • nice song man, keep the weed up

  • first of all, bombwife, thank you so much !!! u will never know how gratefull i am !

second, this is one of my favorite songs EVER !!! i cried the first time i heard it !!!! it's the best ... just amazing

  • woooooooooooooooo :)

  • Love it, and hope to hear it live at NXNE this week! Woo hoo! See you soon @chrisvelan!

  • @jennandselena

what!?!?! did they get back together. I know a couple of the original members. I thought they broke up in like 2004 and haven't played since.

  • It's art... It's music. The artist wrote it about either a girl, or the spice, but deep down, it's about whatever YOU think its about. Nvm arguing about proving it, just enjoy it for all it means to you.

  • @tkdmaster01 much love and respect to everyone who understands art ! thanks, i totally agree with what u said !

  • @tkdmaster01 You my friend, have some great words there :) I love to see THAT in a youtube comment, not often that happens, thanks. :)

  • @tkdmaster01 well spoken friend, life is what you make it

  • @tkdmaster01 no it's not.

  • how come this isnt on itunes?

  • no this song is about him loving a chick then his chick dies then the rest of the song is about him getting baked basicly :)

  • amazing song!

  • what a tune

  • does anyone else find it strange to use a woman as a metaphor for marijuana?

  • @angeliclildevil203 Not really. It makes high sex like a threesome.

  • Comment removed

  • Your convictions would be better received if your grammar was correct.

  • @airdogg88NB

I personally think it's the creative and intuitive artistic prowess of the songwriter that has you confused airdogg. It's about marijuana, but portrayed as a song about a woman, metaphorically.

    Great tune though

  • Its not about weed you tool. The song is about a prostitute named Mary. Your first loves your hardest love. He cried by marijuana's side? marijuna talked to him? But now you are a man go back to your land. So smoking good weed makes you a man? Your a tool is about a woman

  • A buddy of mine used to set up their stages in Montreal. This song is in fact about marijuana.

  • Yeah well my cousin's best friend's father is good friends with the guy who cuts the lead singer's hair and he confirmed it is in fact about a woman.

  • @airdogg88NB

No I'm dead serious my buddy was I guess what you call a roadie for their gigs in montreal, their home city. It is about reefer. Fucking yank. Keep in your borders.

  • @airdogg88NB

you're very narrow-minded aren't you? do people just positively hate you for that? you must not have many friends...pity.

  • Marijuana was decriminalized in 1976 (first lines of the song 'year of our father 1900 and 76')

Contrary to what his mother said (weed's bad).

'mountain girl' (grown in the mountains).

'green as a mango tree' (smoked weed before, but not jamaican weed) .

'smoke 2 pounds of cali herb' and 'stand on your head' (trying to get as high as JA weed gets you).

So he went back to a bar in JA to ask for weed but it'd been criminalized.

Tis clearly about weed... Epic song.

  • seriously one of my favorite songs of all times. so beautiful.

  • love this song!!! FUCKING LOVE IT!

  • u must be retarded if you think this song is about a woman or a gang he even sings you can 200miles through a ganja field

  • @toonggalle Couldn't it be both...?

  • the entire thing is about mary jane every lyric has a reference to the gang, but its cleverly disguised as a song about a woman.

  • @simpsonsroc nah its about a girl he met when he was young.

  • Cali Herb is Weed grown in California. Two pounds of Mary Jane.

  • Somebody recommend some similiar folky/reggaeish stuff.

  • I'm not sure what Equalizer is, but I know this song is actually by a guy named Chris Velan. He has some great songs that are similar in feeling to this one. His songs "Hunting Season", "A Year Can Change a Lot", and "Shiver" are among my favorites.

  • @donboyee Equalizer is Chris Velan's band, him and his brother formed the band in Montreal.

  • i wish i had the money for two pounds of cali herb. and for those of you who don't know what "cali herb" is then don't worry about it, you just won't get any closer to jah the way you are living haha

  • Jus a loose term for California weed. Doesn't mean anything but there are a handful of strains traditionally associated with Cali growers

  • this is definetely NOT just about a girl

    good song though, right emily?;)

  • Jorden? I swear to god you even have names in my friends books.

  • Comment removed

  • This song makes me just smile... I love it...

  • i love this song......good times

  • Simply an amazing song.

  • (: I LOVE THIS SONG.

    This is amazing..

I cant even believe this is a techno group..

  • so what, it has an amazing beat and rhythm, reminds me of daniel wesley who is also amazing!!!

  • this song is about weed

  • No...really? So that's what he was talking about when he said, "smoke two pounds of HERB," and, "Run through a GANJA field?" I never would have known. Good find, detective.

  • Burn!

  • Ya um.. Sweet MARY,, As in Mary Jane,, as in Weed

  • I don't think the name Mary specifically refers to that. The song is about a woman.

  • youre silly

  • you can smoke two pounds of cali herb????

  • u r gay

  • Burrrrnnn!!

  • Where do i get this song???? help please

  • yea chris and his brother started the band but now its broken up i think
