  • Hello, thanks for the video..

I have a question. When I was removing the glass there was a rubber seal around the mid frame which was damaged as well so I took it off from the frame as well, can I get this separate or do I need to buy whole new mid frame?

  • I want to replace the screen and ive thought i had bought everything but it appears i only bought the front glass without the digitizer? what am i ment to do without a digitizer with it?

  • Comment removed

  • Bought the replacement kit and everything worked well until I reassembled the phone. Screen failed to respond to touch so I thought I'd check the #1 cable. Can't do that. The tape provided wasn't strong enough to hold the screen to the bracket. So now how do I get the phone apart without damaging the digitizer and possibly the LCD?

  • Awesome video, worked like a charm. I used a hairdryer and had to keep at it for a while, but eventually it all came off. Only problem now is that my home button doesn't work... Oh well.

  • i did everything butt my phone wont turn on ???? wat should i doo

  • also remember to recalibrate the digitizer

  • when the suction cup doesnt work thats because the cracks let the air in. I solved this problem using 3in packing tape. the tape also prevents the shards from falling out.

  • i did this however now it wont respond to my finger how do i fix that?

  • @Apagnotta41 if the digitizer is not responding to your touch it could be 1 of 2 things. #1 the cable is not properly seated or #2 the digitizer itself is bad.

  • What a life saver, THANK YOU never could have done it with out this.

  • so i got this stuff for 8 bucks lol. and got a white screen to match my white 3gs

  • I've been looking through lots of these tutorial clips, and this one is by far the best if you are only replacing the outer screen. My was smashed, and i brought the screen off eBay for £4.65 delivered with all tools. I followed this video, and followed the steps and it's all done! Bright, and i can actually see the screen now! Took a while with a hair dryer though, and some harsh pulling on the glass.. but other than that it's great. Thank you very much, it's much appreciated.

  • great video thanks

  • Thank you for this video help. Just a note before replacing the broken screen i applied a screen protector specifically make for iphone (one that goes around the home button and speaker hole) to the broken screen as to not have any shards of glass fall off during the process. I noticed that it actually helped considerably when removing the broken screen from the adhesive. You may or may not want to pass this information along. Thanks again!!

  • Best video i'v seen so far. Great job !

  • my suction cup doesnt work

  • Awesome. Using this and the iFixit tutorial I almost fixed my screen 100%. However, I think I have a slightly faulty panel (glass) because there are black lines on the outside of my iphone's screen. By that I mean the LCD, which means that the panel is slightly larger than the digitizer. Also, My iphone's screen is slightly protruding from the top-left edge, not a problem since I'll put a case but It looks strange and I dont want dirt to get in there.

    Thanks for the video!

  • great... my iphone isnt working anymore.

  • very helpful

  • thank u so much for the help

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. I really appreciate it!

  • Would the glass from a 3G be compatible with a 3GS? The glass on my 3GS broke and I was wondering if I could use the glass from my old 3G as a replacement.

  • @MikeKat11 although they do look the same the connection is different between the 3G and 3GS

  • hi i did everything just as you said and it was pretty simple but now i can't hear people on the other side of the call. any tips of what i did wrong or what causes this?? please respond :)

  • @LocuraBoy2010 cable #3 might be not connected properly. there is another video by leewaterman titled "iPhone 3GS proximity sensor speaker cable #3 - How to easily connect"

  • Hi thanks for the great video, I just removed the digitizer from the "bracket" but I used a screw driver and made a mess of it, I know stupid me :-) I need to get a replacement bracket but don't know the official name for the part as I tried searching iPhone 3G digitizer bracket with no luck, can you tell me what I need to search for please

    Many thanks

  • @MarkbromIerski search for "mid frame" on the iphoneshopusa website. The link is in the video description.

  • you can actually buy the digitizer from ebay for about 15 bucks

  • Comment removed

  • the downside of this is that when you peel of that tape @03:39 the screen will become non-dust proof. i have used over 2 months and iphone w/ a replaced screen and i'd tell you that it's annoying when the dust gets in...

  • I fixed the screen but the touch screen doesn't work? help?

  • Thank you. You helped me out in a huge way. Well done video and well explained. !

  • THANK YOU! Great video tutorial, helped me to replace the glass of my 3GS with no trouble.

It's not a hard word, it's complicated, but with patience, attention and following this GREAT tutorial, there's no chance that it won't work.

Again, THANK YOU! My iPhone was looking like crap, now it's looking brand new!

  • I can't do what ever the fuck he's doing at 3:18. Its like mine is stuck

  • hi. just did it and i cant press any buttoms/numbers etc.. whu??

  • Is it the same procedure with an iPhone 2g?

  • very good tutorial , took me 30 minutes to replace mine thanks

  • I broke connector 3.

  • It all went perfect. Thanks a lot!

The most tricky part was taking the glass out with the hair dryer... I'd recommend everyone to get a heat gun instead...

  • worked

  • doe's this help with water damage?

  • what happens if u get some dust on the lcd...

  • Awesome tutorial. Fixed my daughter's phone like a pro...

  • worked great thanks a million.

  • nice one mate took me half an hour to fix my completely shattered screen. cost me £5.50 for the screen and digitizer. big help thanks

  • do you think... that if i got an iphone 3.. then later bought a digitizer thats for an iphone 4.. then maybe bought a broken iphone 4 used the sides and back parts and just switched it with the iphone 3 back that it would still work? and look like an iphone 4?

  • cheers man, really helped, would have taken me 5 minutes if I didn't get so high before hand

  • so much easier than the damn itouch 4. Damn technology.

  • where do i get the adhesive strips

  • @MrSuperInsane we have them in stock check the video description for the link

  • Hey, so I tried this, the phone looks perfect but will not respond to touch. What did I do wrong? AND, what does the digitizer look like, is it built into the glass???

  • @afearon2000 you got a bad digitizer

  • Does the digitizer still respond to touch when the lcd is removed? Coz mine doesnt, so i wanna know if i also need a new digitizer

  • @ImaginativeBrowsing yes it should

  • This video completely rocked. I just replaced my screen and it works perfectly. The only thing I can add to this is that using a hair dryer to heat up the glass took forever, and it still didn't melt the glue very well. It was a hell of an effort to get that glass off, even after a solid 10 minutes of using the hairdryer.

  • phone completely dead now. any clues?

  • very helpful video; everything worked great. Excellent tutorial!

  • Wow. Now I know what to do with my 3GS when the screen breaks. Thanks a lot man. Full credit for you.

  • it's alive, it's alive!!!!!

  • the bar to unlocked its not working.... help please

  • When i turned my screen on, it was purple. What happened ?

  • Excellent Tutorial..

  • Can the digitizer for the 3g and 3gs be interchangeable? I know the lcds are not, but I haven't tried the digitizer yet.

  • @ExKonoko they are not interchangeable. the cable connections for 3G and 3GS are different.

  • @ExKonoko

does the digitizer for 3g work on 3gs

  • Before heating the glass you instruct to remove the strip of black tape that's all around the digitizer, is this something I need to replace??

  • @xxWhiteShadowxx1 no there will be a new one on the replacement part

  • do the sides of the glass stay on place or is there a gap?

  • Help!!!!! What If y did everything right but the touch pad dont work now

  • Beautiful instructions! And yes, 46 WERE looking for the "Apple will do it for free" fantasy button. I'll bet that Apple taught them otherwise, and I'm sure they've sinced realized how awesome videos like this are :)

    Great job Leewaterman

  • Great stuff, mate! Worked perfectly, thanks!

  • Hey mate, How much for a 3g LCD screen only?

    P.s. loved the video.

  • What brand/model is the mini heat gun? Where can I purchase the mini heat gun?

  • @utubejazzer the heat gun used in the video is a Milwaukee Model 1400

  • @leewaterman Is that model good? Would you recommend that I purchase that one? I don't know what exactly to look for in a heat gun...Thanks!

  • 46 People didn't follow the instructions.

  • hi, I followed all the steps and everything went great, but the screen it's not responding properly when I hit and icon another application opens, for example if I want to open itunes, the contacts icon responds. please help me

  • Best Video - Well done !!!

This one shows the whole process and it's best.

  • The new #2 cable connection on my new glass did not have the necessary foam on top of the connection to keep it secure, so the touch screen would not work. I took it back apart and added sticky foam to the flat plate on top of cable #2, which held it in place better. Everything now works great!

  • For the heat gun, what heat level does it need to be on and what temperature ? Is it possible to separate the glass & digitizer if only 1 is broken ? Thanks. :)

  • This ain't user friendly. Its Chinese friendly

  • Why is everything soo hard. Why can't it be like put block into a box

  • This does a good job of telling you where stuff is and how to disassemble. However, there are no tips on technique, how to position parts on reassembly, etc. I've spent nearly an hour at the reattach the cables stage and have yet to get cable 3 in the slot. I'm assuming you do this one first because it came off last and it's shorter than the other two. Approach this task with caution unless you have experience and skill it putting very small parts together.

  • My lcd is completely grey now. So what the hell does that mean and/or how do I get rid of it?

  • hey guys.. you are better off buying the $30 pre-assembled digitizer and mid frame "iPhone 3gs Replacement Digitizer Home Earpiece Assembly" than wasting your time taking small glass pieces off.

I ended up breaking the little microphone while doing becuause most things inside are really fragile. cheers.

  • 574,202 people broke theyre iphone....smh

  • @leewaterman when i go to the website, and press the iphone button they both say Iphone 3G while i have a 3GS. Which one of the two should i choose?

  • I can’t get cable 3 to click in so my touch screen won’t work. Any help?

  • the touch screen on my iphone 3g won't work did i connect one of the wires wrong?

  • Comment removed

  • @GustavBalsby what tape are you referring to?

  • @leewaterman The tape for the glass/digitizer and the old middle frame!

  • it works!. I used a guitar pick to help after remove the glass to softly lift the glass, the hairdryer was working but the guitar pick just helped to lift the corners. Great video! thanks

  • thanks for the great guide! used it on my 3gs, all good and like new now! =)

  • man i dont have a heat gun or hair dryer is their another way to get it off i dont have anyway to heat it up

  • please help me... When I come to separating the lcd screen from the front screen, the 2 screws under the tape will not unscrew

  • @Predator13371 It is because you bought 3g screen on a 3gs or the other way!!

  • @ leewaterman i need a 3g lcd screen.

  • Best tut :D

  • bye the way Awesome video great instruction, clean sound, good video. If you have a LCD screen and could give me a discount i will definitely get it from you leewaterman.

  • @marioperez23 you need a 3G or 3GS one?

  • I did this earlier today workes really good nice clean screen, everything workes. BUT when you take off the LCD Screen be very careful when you try to pry it off the frame of the phone, i f****ed up and now the bottom left of my phone is messed up.. use the sides of the phone to try and pry it open and BE VERY GENTLE WITH THE LCD OR YOU'LL END UP MESSING UP YOUR LCD SCREEN. Now i have to order the screen another 20$ but worth doing it myself.. not sure what ya did Dallasn check 1,2,3 connectors.

  • Very Nice VIDEO!!!! great up close shots. makes since fixed the phone myself and saved myself $100

  • so i followed this and everything looks great, but now the home button doesn't work... what did I do wrong?

  • nevermind! I found it.. connection#4 came loose.

  • @DallasN8 yeah that will do it too

  • @DallasN8 check the pins on the back of the home button. make sure they are still in tact. they could have accidentally been bent of broken off

  • @leewaterman im having problems with the home button as well. not sure how the two pins are meant to be facing. and now actually, one of the pins have snapped off. am i in trouble?

  • @Kneeguyen yeah you'll need a new home button cable

  • DUDE ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET THE DIGITIZER INTO ITS SOCKET!!!

  • I did it!...I am the man!!!

  • Hi there,

    I bought your kit.

When putting it back together, I cannot get #3 to snap back into the connector. The tab will not hold the cable in. What would you suggest? Is it possible to glue it down with a glue gun?

Any immediate help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  • I dont have the kit yet but what happens if the screen looks so cracked that the suction cup doesnt look like it will work?

  • @badgerbaby use a piece of packaging tape over the cracked part of the iPhone so you can use the suction cup

  • Thx buddy, great tutorial !!

  • HELP! the on or off doesnt even slide for mine anymore!

  • @barbiegorgeous2 the digitizer is not connected properly, double check your connections.

  • @iPhoneShopUSA I was able to get it right the second time around, thank you!!

  • Thanks for an awesome video! My iPhone looks as new again! cheers!

  • excellent. You save my iPhone 3G. tHANKS ¡¡¡

  • i tried this, but got up to the bit in which you take the screen off at the beginning and i tried to do this, but my screen (just the glass bit) is actually no longer attatched to the phone, how do i get the rest of the front off? :/

    Helpppp!

  • yay! this video saved my life (Iphone). i know nothing about the anatomy of these phones but i manged to follow easy and now i have a nice new screen and not a shatterd one! . you can buy the digi screens and all the tools on ebay for cheap! but great quality. thats what i did!.

  • The touchscreen and home button are not working. However, the Sleep button will turn on the phone on and off. Since my phone is still opened, I keep my fingers on top of cable #1 and #2 so they won't disconnect but they still won't work.

Help please?! Could I have damaged the digitizer?

  • Comment removed

  • a very good movie - and my iphone is back in the race - thanks

  • You took off the black strip from around the screen when you removed the protective cover while assembling the phone, is that not supposed to stay on ??

  • thanQ thanQ thanQ i did every thing good

at first my screen was white after retrying second time every thing was good..!!!

  • felt a little bit like Radar doing the tracheotomy on that MASH episode... had some trouble with the #2 cable but, knock wood, it seems to be working now! Thanks so much. Saved me about 100 bucks. :)

  • worked perfectly, thanks!!

  • im thinking of buying a digitizer for my ipod 3g and i dont want to buy it with a repair kit if i dont can i still remove the screen with something and if i can what with?

  • I Did IT! works just like a brand new one! thanks

  • Work GREAT!!! Thanks!!

  • I just changed my broken screen following this video works like new, if you follow to a t it will work. thank you so much xxx

  • hi, i did everything, and the 3 cables are all in place, but the screen is completely dead and the touch screen won't work, i turned on my phone and thats the only thing that doesn't work, i called it and it still rings... how do i fix this?

  • @msPieface16 this is the exact same thing that happened for me!!

  • I did exactly as you said, it works like a charm! thank a lot!

  • The glass is so badly broken that the suction cup will not stick!

    What should I do?

    Help!

  • @Nathan7227 take a piece of packaging tape and place it over the entire screen

  • Awesome video, very nicely done! Thank you for sharing this

  • you miss the rubber line around when you took off protector ;)

  • Do you have iPhone app idea? You can make your own iPhone app with a software called AppWizard in less than 30 minutes

  • Could you take apart the the digitizer and the lcd apart for my iphone 4 ?

  • great video, managed to replace with relative ease and the touch screen is working perfectly

the only problem ive had is that my home button is now slightly depressed and doesn't work as well as before, it's still usable though

anybody know where i went wrong with that?

  • i broke the button connector too, what should i do now?

  • just a suggestion to everyone. Rather than buying the digitizer alone - just buy it as a set with the home button and everything. the difference is minimal and you dont have to use the heatgun and adhesive strips, just pop out the LCD and pop it in the new bracket. much easier and hassle free. i damaged my home button while messing with heat gun.

  • Is there anyway that something else was disconnected during the repair? The cables are in the right spots and not disconnecting... any idea what else it may be?

  • tried to repair 3gs. follow instructions as shown in this video. before staring screen was shattered but still working, now touch screen doesn't work. there are also grey blotches that were not there before. have tried all the tips - am sure connectors are in right. can anyone help further? also do you think that I may have damaged the lcd (think that is what it was called??) part? if so can i buy another one of these cheep? i got the new screen for under $10 on ebay. help!

  • @katiejanehart I damaged the LCD first time I replaced the glass too. Had gray areas where the LCD broke. You can order the LCD online in numerous places too. Just follow the same instructions and replace the LCD with the new one.

  • I followed your vid and it turned on once but slipped out of my hand and turned off and now i cant get it to turn back on i re tried to do all the steps again but still not turning on please any info will help...

  • @marryJhitter1 hold the power button and home button until you see the apple logo.

  • @iPhoneShopUSA Really you don't think i tried that, it didn't work. I had to take it apart and reassemble the phone again, guess I missed something the first time. Thanks though the video really helped.

  • okey so i cracked my screen and the touch thing wasnt working and i replaced the glass screen from ebay, and followed this vido and did eveything right and the touch thing still dosnt work...did i buy the wrong thing? or am i suppose to buy something else? can someone please help thanks

  • IF YOU NOTICED.. WHEN U REMOVED THE PLASTIC PROTECTOR FROM THE GLASS BEFORE YOU REATTACHED THE LCD FROM THE NEW GLASS.. COORECT ME IF IM WRONG BUT I THINK THE PLASTIC PROTECTOR CAME WITH A BLACK RUBBER GASKET THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE LEFT ON THE GLASS TO AVOID DUST TO GET IT BUT I THINK YOU ACCIDENTALLY REMOVED IT AS WELL TOGETHER WITH THE PLASTIC FILM PROTECTOR :) JUST AN OBSERVATION.... THANKS :)

  • I did this and it works good the only thing is, I accidentally removed the seal/gasket and rip it where can i buy it ? By the way I'm going to replace it again because 2 wks later my daughter broke it again...ARGHHH!!! lol!!

  • Thanks for video.

  • WTF 7:42 scared the shit out of me

  • really good i did mine no probs 15 mins with this video thank you

  • @Predator13371 make sure the part you got is the correct one. i've seen people mistakenly order a 3g touch panel for 3gs and vise versa.

  • @leewaterman It's not possible to use the 3G digitizer on a 3GS, it's different connectors. You may have not attached the glass properly to the digitizer, try taking it back off and getting one of those 3M adhesive strips off eBay instead of using super glue

  • removed the 6 screws, used a paper clip to pull the LCD off (did it at the sides). LCD broke...gg.

  • I can't thank you enough you just saved my phone. My iPhone is the only piece of tech I have, and I didn't have money for a new one, or to have someone fix it. Thank you

  • Can you do this for iphone 4 if I pay? I spilled liquid- food oil- and it seeped in through. :(

  • @coolgrl1717 check out the iphone 4 repair video on my channel

  • Can you do this for iphone 4 if I pay? I spilled liquid- food oil- and it seeped inthrough

  • thank you very much for your helpful video!!

  • The screws #3 and #4 came off just fine but #1 and #2 aren't unscrewing! I don't know what's wrong with it, maybe it's too tight but I don't know what to do.

  • I did this but the touch does not work ???? what do i have to do :( please answear !!!

  • @annoonnyymme check the cable it may have popped off.

  • @leewaterman which one of the three cables is for the touch ?

  • @annoonnyymme check cable #2 make sure it snaps in, a lot of times it will pop off when putting it back together.

  • @leewaterman problem fixed !! thank you very much !

  • @annoonnyymme

reset the unit. press home&power for 10-15 seconds.

  • Is that iPhone you're working on in this video a 3G or a 3GS?

  • @ChapStyck it's a 3G but the method is the same for repairing a 3GS

  • Thank you.
