  • One big "Fuck You" to Hollywood and producers of, "the lovely bones" for adhering this masterpiece to Be synonymous with Pedophiles, Murderers, and Rapists from here to eternity ... Goddamn u...

  • I LOVE THIS MEN ON THE ADVERTISEMENT!!

  • Am now 51, contender for all time #1, still humbled by vocal and emotional reach, majestic beauty !

  • First heard this about 30 years ago on The Annie Nightingale Show, Radio 1. I still love it!

  • I must ''respectfully disagree '' with WannebeFruFru's comment about this version. Hearing Elizabeth Frazer sing this song is pretty much as close as you're gonna come to hearing ''god's'' voice without having to go to all the trouble of dying. Look up the definition of ''totally holy mind fuck'' on Wickipedia, and they have a copy of this song ready for you to hear most quickly !! And as for the version by John Frusciante..........don't even get me started. SORRY, JUST MY TAKE ON IT.......

  • Lost Highway :)

  • The most blissed out song EVER.

  • tim buckley's (original) version is better. john frusciante's too. The vocals on this version lack weight and power behind them. Better than many but nothing near the other versions i have pointed out.

Bare in mind this is my opinion but seriously take a look at the others.

  • 2,945,060 PEOPLE JUST CAN NOT BE WRONG !!.....or for that matter just a bit depressed, or having troubling thoughts about life........NO , LETS FACE IT......THIS SONG IS ABSOLUTELY OTHERWORLDLY BEAUTIFUL, AND TAKES YOU AWAY!!.......Thank you, Tim, Liz, Ivo, T.M.C et all.

  • There's a reason why mothers ask their children "if your friends jumped off a bridge would you fallow them down?"

hope you understand what i'm strying to say here.

  • LOVE this song<3 makes my heart cry every time...140 people obviously don't know what good music is.

  • @gorgeousdoll8 140 people heard the original version

  • I want that on my funeral

  • es preciosaa

  • I love You Liz.

  • The Texas Chainsaw Massacre ♥

  • @neelsonneris haha, yeah that version was better. but it was only 45 seconds long, they never did a full version

  • @Gencturk92 oh really? I didn't know .. this song is wonderful, I was brought here because of the movie trailer. : D

  • @neelsonneris yeah same, i know this song from the trailer aswell. the version you hear in the trailer was only 45 seconds, too bad they dident do a full version. its on youtube if you want to watch it, "moneypenny song to the siren"

  • @Gencturk92 thanks! I listened now and I liked it so much, but this version is really better.

  • la canción de entrada al mejor concierto al que he ido... HEROES DEL SILENCIO GUATEMALA 2007

  • This is such a fucking joke. Oooh god....

  • After I watched the lovely bones....I had to hear this again

  • Liz you are an inspiration for me ...i love you voice

  • Soul wrenchingly beautiful

  • . . . need to listen to the original by Tim Buckley recorded in the early 70s . . . and for dessert, try Sinnead O'Connor's version :)

  • Great song. I first heard it from The Lovely bones. What a good film to a perfect.

  • THE LOVELY BONES BROUGHT ME HERE AND IM PROUD.

  • @ElliieeTandy this songs was also in David Lynch's Lost Highway soundtrack back in 1997

  • @marceladns and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, and the movie Candy w/ Heath Ledger and Abby Cornish.

  • CTs music is about taking your art seriously. be still and just listen. you will fall in love with her sounds. i maintain that Liz is the most groundbreaking female vocalist of this generation. i apologize for i am apt to gush. Now that i have said this, i understand if someone says they don't like it...more for me.

  • I can't understand a word they sing but I like it!!!!

  • can anyone make a karaoke to this

  • Amazing !!! - also in Poland ;)))

  • i can't think of a better written song

  • Hilarious video. What's up with all of that turning? Love them though.

  • agree LH - just remember there is a whole generation who haven't ever heard these wonderful vocals - the older i get the more i realise the 80s gave us some of the most talented artists for the last half century. search - paul buchanan, tracy thorn, alison moyet if you want to widen your gaze so to speak.. enjoy- genuinely i mean that

  • what a spellbinding track

  • RIP nonkel

  • - she is B E A U T I F U L in this video (:

  • Classic

  • Lovely Bones!!!!!!!!

  • A mystical , magical score of a Tim Buckley classic. The "WOW" factor . Love this version . Thank you for posting. 2 thumbs up !!

  • Lost Highway, I said that, great film. This song is so beautiful.

  • Ratty - Sunrise (here I am) and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Trailer brought me here.

  • lovely but everyone should check out tim buckleys original! (and yes its jeff buckleys dad)

  • Found this because Stana mentioned it in her interview.

  • STANA KATIC

  • I'm Old-School, I remember when The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, remake, brought me here.

  • The lovely bones bought me here <3

  • The vocals in this are so unique & as much as I like the use of the words & rift in modern dance music, this song makes the hair on my neck stand up.

  • Awesome track.

Song To The Siren has been used and sampled so many times over the years on Electonic Music,House,Trance,Progessive...Drum & Bass you name it.

Personally its an exceptional DJ tool you can use to play over another record,i play it over Chicane's - Offshore ....unreal.

  • Spine tingling every time. Recently remastered to an incredible standard, highly recommended!.

  • I saw them as supporting act for O.M.D.1983.They where great!

  • Wow, this is so ... unbelievable. And anyone gonna tell ya Tim Buckley's original version was better---just don't believe him! :)

  • "The Lovely Bones" brought me here.

  • The urge of escaping from the real world brought me here.

  • the texas chainsaw massacre

  • I just saw the Lovely Bones. This song was in it. This is a beautiful song... Fit the movie perfectly... great movie.

  • i don't know if anyone else mentioned it here before but this song is Written by Tim Buckley.

  • texas chainsaw massacre brought me here!!

  • Orgasm......utter orgasm, through the thousand times this has wept me...

  • This is a great band & a beautiful song. (It's a shame how some people are unable to just sit back & enjoy the music without "one-uping", & insulting others-life is too short for such trivial things. Relax, & enjoy the music.... Namaste' :)))

  • 132 pople must be ...just tasteless

  • just a masterpiece!!!

  • If your life is a leaf that the seasons tear off and condemn

  • Can i just say... i fucking adore this song! <3

  • it's a masterpiece! Love it

  • such a beuitiful song :)

  • To those on the "KNOW"

The Cocteau Twins have been around since 1982. They've been making music before most viewer's were born. No - No - No: Liz is not deaf; nor is making lyricts up; nor, does she make up un-uterable vocalizations.

    Come ON...!

Idiots...! Go deeper than the movies. Understand her entire story; her pain; her joy; her utter life in-it's-entirety. Only then are you a true fan. This superficial maelstrom is a useless battle. Lisen to more music: Listen to "Victoriland."

  • @spinglasshydra bit of spellchecking and youre most of the way there. this is actually a tim buckley song, 'usually' done in this style by this mortal coil. now what i didnt know was that on occasions such as this..bands like cocteau twins..changed their name to TMC- well really they just sang with em...but u get the idea. TMC has a wide group of 'floating members' based around ivo w.-r. and which decade ur talking about. im pretty sure liz sings an amalgam of gaelic and english and well, words!

  • @z1rakz1gal

Thank you for your, what I'm sure is suppose to be constructive criticism; however, it was not asked for or required. "This Mortal Coil" is a compilation and nothing more released by 4AD owned by IVO. That's why I said - "To those on the KNOW."

If you think my grammer and punctuation is incorrect - perhaps you should do a professorship. I believe my Ph.D. speaks for itself.

  • @spinglasshydra WHAT? if you have a PhD then you should be able to spell VICTORIALAND! especially as you apparently have the album. further, TMC cannot be a compilation- only a collection can be a compilation, as your PhD would have taught you id think. However, TMC might be considered a collective! there are actually a handfull of TMC records- not just one compilation- i know this because im looking at them. Not sure what u meant to say otherwise.

  • @z1rakz1gal "If you HAD a phd, you should"... ^^

  • @spinglasshydra :'D

  • @spinglasshydra That's odd, in her interviews, she talks at great length about how her lyrics ARE made up, stream of consciousness, or sounds as an extension of the music and how it feels in the moment. She says performances are usually different each time. Nothing deep or metaphysical, she has stressed that they don't relate much to anything personal, and that she'd rather audiences get their own from the songs.

This song isn't even hers, it's a cover of a song from the 1970's. Idiots, indeed.

  • @Happyrocker37 who cares? it's a lovely song, no? =p

  • @Happyrocker37 You twat Happyrocker, most of us know this isn't her song originally but what a great job she does! If you don't like it, then shut up and fuck off, each to their own. The only idiot here is you!

  • @spinglasshydra

It's Victorialand. And most of it is Esperanto. Shut up, dont judge and enjoy the Scottish prodigy.

  • this is very haunting and very beautiful i would too play these when i go to the man in the sky!love it very much junysaerus

  • This is one of the best songs ever wrote.

  • Elizabeth Fraser is one of the many angels among mankind.

  • lovely bones. my heart is melting...

  • ok i haven't seen the lovely bones... I first heard this song when the trailer for Texas Chainsaw Massacre came out... way back when

  • fanu - siren song / dnb version

  • WHAT The story of this song ?

  • @star15815 tim buckley wrote it, TMC made it famous..at least in the 80's goth scene whence first it passed my ears. golden tune. checkout 'blood' (i think its called) 2cd set of their (TMC's) work about 12yrs after- its more soundtracky/panoramic (good thing).. not unlike the way dead can dance changed from more-to-less 'structured' or traditional sounds later on. both bands on 4AD, both similar but different to ea other and cocteaus to maintain yr interest id reckon.enjoi

  • @z1rakz1gal er no tim buckley wrote it,sang it,and made it famous!

  • I brought myself here... I want this song to be played at my funeral, it is beautiful.

  • ablushflighty bordering on blooshinblush

  • Just an awesome beautiful voice that makes you shudder and think deeply....

  • Beautiful and haunting...INCREDIBLE!

  • Dunno why I like this (check the rest of my play list boys 'n' girls) but it's kinda ethereal and almost 'ancient' in it's simplicity. Big sleazy likes it!

  • Damn good song! Damn good!

  • Lost Highway

  • Am i the only one from Texas Chainsaw Massacre?

  • @zMikeee nope lol thats what brought me here lol

  • the angels and the lovely bones brought me here

  • I think the accent adds a lot to the drama and color of this song. It does an incredible job of delivering both ambiance and dissonance in such a way that you would imagine the siren calling to weary sailors.

  • Funny that - most americans I have met herer and there have had very recognisable , some would say rather thick, American accents, albeit with regional varaitions -but hey a close approximation to the Queen's English is fine with me!

  • PLEASE SOMEONE, ANYONE: Have any other old english fold songs the have been covered like this (dark, dreamy, amazingly)??? I cannot get over this song lately. Better than the original!!!!!!!!!!!! Sinead O'Connor actually did a decent version of this as well, Bryan Ferry also!

  • @donnywal : I'm looking for lists of cover songs of old english folk tracks: send my your track titles, links etc! Thanks :)

  • @donnywal

Try- "she moves through the fair", "once I had a sweetheart", or "House Carpenter"

I wouldn't call these English, though. The first is Irish, Second is English, and the third is based on serval Scottish/English folk songs, combined into Child Ballad 243#, way back...

If you dont like these versions, their are many more...

  • that VOICE

  • lynch lynch lynch......

  • This song makes me cry :_(

  • @ParaInfernalia i agree

  • One of the best voices ever, i get shivers when i hear her voice

  • I have to admit, Lost Highway brought me here

  • Stunning.....

  • @spameister

Shitloads. But it's fun to reminisce once in a while.

  • Thoughts of a girlfriend in 1992 and a bottle of brandy brought me here

  • @eck909 what have you been doing for 19 years, seriously.

  • Like if GOOD TASTE brought you here.

  • @Verdisvase the pain of someone died before 66 years bought me here

  • ♥ Elizabeth Fraser ♥ OMG!!!!

  • @LoveMokes

The Beatles had thick accents as do a lot of people.

When ignorant it is better to get educated than let others see how uninformed you really are.

  • @LoveMokes If you have a problem with it don't listen.Your own accent might be considered just as thick and unattractive to others as Elizabeth's is to you.

  • @darkfey1963 No actually. A very small portion of the world speaks with this bad an accent when English is their first language. And if its not her first language then again.... she should do what most singers who wish to sing in a certain language do....learn the diction properly. Its like me starting to learn the Chinese language and before I get half way through ... I decide to record and sell a freakin cd to the world in Chinese sing song. How bad would I sound????? People would tell me!

  • @LoveMokes She's scottish.

Anybody's got an accent to your ears when he's born and raised, say 500 km/miles from your birthplace. This is absolutely natural. All around the world, in every languages, news on television have standardized our hearing to a flat voice wrongly considered as a reference and perfection.

    Another face of globalization.

Individuals bring richness, whenever man let tolerance raise it.

  • @poymanjoe Isorry about that. I get into abliteration...what with all the b's.

  • @posypity thanks to everyone who liked my comments today...and even those who didn't.They half-lit the day.

  • David Lynch brought me here.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG

LIFE FLY THROUGH MY MIND IN SECONDS EVERY TIME I LISTEN...

  • This was in a shampoo ad during the 90s in the UK when I was a kid. I loved it then, I loved it during Lovely bones,I love it now. Elizabeth Fraser has such a beautiful voice.

  • @VioletSpanxx It was also in a Thomsons holidays ad in the 80s.

  • brilliant for getting rid of hangovers and realising you are not immortal, and starting again

  • this always makes me cry its such a beautiful song

  • COCTEAU TWINS

    @+

  • The Texas Chainsaw Massacre film (2003) brought me here.

  • this song is very powerfull to me , it has emotion shone throught the lyrics and a beatifull voice to sing it, definitly one of my favourites!

  • This is to you southernraven. Mahhahahahahah! I would fuck you like like the ocean crests all night

  • With all respect, JHutchsource, you are not a very intelligent person.

  • @JHutchSource Actually it is scary because it shows how many douchebags are still believing in these stupid things.

    I'll tell you a secret: Santa doesn't exist! :O

  • THE LOVELY BONES

  • This is the most emotional version I have heard...beautiful

  • beautiful...... love?

  • definition of a siren- liz fraser

  • have been a fan from the very start....and still no band has ever managed to better their music.

  • Great music is a lot like ice cream; it's very addictive. I just found another favorite flavor to sample from. I feel blessed!

  • this song and the Massive Attack song "Teardrop" are addictive, Elizabeth Fraser has a wonderful voice..

  • Written by Tim Buckley. Written for Lizzie Fraser. She's a very very very distant cousin of mine, This song like many others personifies Scotland in so many ways. God I love her, met her once at a family 'do' but she was so down to earth, so natural that it surely couldn't have been her :P

  • @FatBlackFrancis thats simply not true. tim buckley did not write it for liz fraser.

  • Stana Katic you freaking goddess. Thank you so much for liking good music.

  • These were the lovely bones that had grown around my absence. The connections, sometimes tenuous, sometimes made at great cost, but often magnificent., that happened after I was gone. And I began to see things in a way that let me hold the world without me in it.

  • Like if STANA KATIC brought you here :)

  • @kbeckett8 : who is Stana Katic? THIS MORTAL COIL brought me here!!!

  • @donnywal Haven't you heard? Perfection has a new meaning. It's Stana Katic =)

  • I've heard this song in soooo many movies, but I had no idea what the name of the song was because it was just a small fragment in those movies... But Thank you SK!

    I love it!

  • Stana Katic brought me here! She loves this song..<3

  • @rozethshy ditto!

  • @rozethshy Lovely Bones brought me here, true story.

lol nahhh just fucking with you, me and my mate where just looking at covers of great songs.

  • Her voice is terrible, this version is excruciating

maybe I just love Tim Buckley's version too much

  • @lladsbid Liz Frazer sang this song originally with This Mortal Coil! Her voice is amazing! Not getting at you, but please realise that most of the songs out there are cover versions! :O)

  • @swazgoth - that's not true, Tim Buckley wrote this when Liz Fraser was about 5! Do a youtube search, you can see him performing it on the Monkees TV show.

  • @lladsbid terrible??? what on earth made you say that?

  • @DizzyPuke she's all scratchy and waily. maybe she's alright on other songs, but here she sound like a mediocre Xfactor (or American Idol, if you're not from the UK) contestant. Maybe its the production, maybe they distorted her voice or something, all I know is that this sounds awful to me. she just sounds like she's singing through her nose.

  • @lladsbid yeah, I noticed that she sounded nasal but this version is filled with emotions. It has this yearning feeling to it, that is why I like it.

  • @DizzyPuke that's fair, I can't get past the voice.

  • This song is BEAUTIFUL !
