I wish someone would come up a term to distiquinsh video game RPGs for real (pencil and paper) RPGs. I grew up playing and running pencil and paper RPGs but I've never really cared for video games of any kind and more and more I keep running into instances where the terminology causes confusion becasue when I hear/see RPG I think pencil and paper but sometimes I will be talking to somone else with a diffrent background and they will think I mean video games. Just saying. :)

'The Castle' gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. Ahhh, that feeling of impending doom... that track really fits with that part of the game IMO. A classic.

Here's my thoughts: 10. Two parter. Suited two different types of castles altogether. Good by themselves but not as a combo. 9. So-so for 3/4 of the way through, then pretty good. 8. Good, but could have been better. 7. GREAT tune, but too repetitive. 6. Not a bad song, but doesn't belong in an RPG. 5. Sounds like prehistoric sports fans. 4. Would've been good if it weren't 8-bit with the rap bit. 3. Bad beginning, meh middle. 2. Too repetitive. 1. No. Just no.

Yeah, no doubt. The castle is easily one of the greatest RPG songs ever. Especially once the harpsichord kicks in at ... oh wait, you didn't let it get to the point where it starts to get good =P.

The mood it set in the Castle was perfection, and throughout all of FF VIII, it was the only place I felt was truly a part of the Final Fantasy series' olden days in this game, the reason I even bothered to play FF VIII was to relive them but I did not feel like I did till I got there.
To me, the worst song in Grandia was the theme of the final boss in the game. It was just a rehash of all the battle themes and it didn't blend together at all.. for a finale, I was hugely disappointed.

Okay: 10 was beautiful. 9 wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible 8 is also very beautiful, as was every single solitary song from ff-x 7 was great, sweet sounding and deep. 6 sucked, no argument here 5 isn't the worst I've heard, but I agree it wasn't all that good 4 is the same as 5, not the worst but not good. 3 is laughably bad 2 gave me a headache, too repetitive, not good at all 1is very bad, it definitely deserved the top spot on your list.

Thats a little biased then dont you think? I mean just because you had to listen to it for hours. Any song would get terrible after awhile especially RPG songs since they often loop in over and over in areas.
They really don't seem that bad so far. It's similar to not liking bagpipe music. It's not BAD music, it's just deafening, shrill, and an aquired taste. My least favorites are poor quality, uninventive, repetitive, that sort of thing.

I really liked 8. Not because it was Final Fantasy, but I just liked the song.
And although I thought Grandia I was a really good game (and really cheesy) that was definitely not one of the better songs in the game.

#3 is super interesting musically. I dunno where it appears in the game so I can see it being annoying if it was for a large portion.
#2 - It's not exactly bad so much as it just screams mediocrity. See the reasoning in #1, next.
#1 - Same thing as #2. It sounds like some kids "I'm making an RPG in Visual Basic. Check out my first attempt at a battle theme..."

4- mana khemia - never played but i like this one has a nice theme. A simple like theme that you can hum to.
3 - soul nomad - never played but this is pretty cool I like it :). It's kinky
2 - tales of destiny - I like this one especially when it key changes

9 - arc the lad - I liked this one :P. I like the rhythem and this is memorable for me.
8 - FFX - I agree with you on this this one is kinda boring so I dont like this one .
7 - phantasia - i never played game but I like this theme has a nostalgic feeling.
6 - dark cloud 2 - I like this happy tune and the melody. It's memorable
5 - grandia - never played. Dont really like this one.

Thats a little biased then dont you think? I mean just because you had to listen to it for hours. Any song would get terrible after awhile especially RPG songs since they often loop in over and over in areas.

Opening for #10 was really bad, but got better.
#9 had nice beat, and also got better when it became orchestrated.
#8 isn't bad minus the "doodeedoodee" underscore.
#7 was bad but I could tolerate it.
#6: Had potential to be catchy and fun, but was just too repetetive.
#5 would be good in a really bad platformer.
#4 reminds me of the tower in pokemon Gold/Silver. (Or was it the cave?)

They really don't seem that bad so far. It's similar to not liking bagpipe music. It's not BAD music, it's just deafening, shrill, and an aquired taste. My least favorites are poor quality, uninventive, repetitive, that sort of thing.
