Wow, this is such an excellent portrayal of the inner critic. I love the interplay some really powerful messages about how to overcome it. Firstly recognizing it as in some ways a separate entity from yourself being able to catch it in action it only ever promotes fear and self loathing. Secondly recognizing its weaknesses. For me its that it only has power when we listen to it. Its fighting for its own existence.
The inner critic will never be happy no matter what we do and we will never banish it completely it serves a function. I find its best not to engage with its individual criticisms as it will always respond with more criticism leading to a further cycle of negative emotion, best to recognize it, let its criticisms flow through the brain like a stream without trying to directly fight it. It is the product of society and our upbringing and does not belong to our essential nature. Fantastic video
Holy crap Oz, wow... you KNOW... and you're an artist, dude. Who gives a shit if you don't make any $. We don't have to starve to be artists. That's a lie the elite have laid down, because so many artists didn't make $ their art was worth $ after they fucking died! That's the conundrum, isn't it? It doesn't have to be that way. You ever read any William Blake? The guy was poor as pot, so well loved now, but ppl thought he was a nut case. He could've had a job, you know. No reason why not.
Also, you're not weird! You are you, and hearing that shit ass voice... it's okay... we all do, some of us just don't realize it's there. We have 'complexes'. That you are aware of it and know about it gives you self empowerment. I believe in you, man. I BELIEVE IN YOU. If you're weird then we all are!
Anyhow, the common social constructs and habits that lead to negativity can be overcome with a specific program of positivity, since on the level of self-conditioning, it doesn't matter if it's a book you're reading or someone talking to you, the brain reacts the same way... I recommend "The Magic of Thinking Big" as a good starting point.
The simple fact you ask these questions makes you evolved and worth living. The higher your wisdom of life, the lower the grasp of death on your essence! :)
When anyone is honest about what goes on in their heads then it will come across as crazy in a culture which is built on lies. This is one way in which the facade is perpetuated. There is a pretty good psychologist called David Smail who talks about 'image management' a lot. Most people learn to manage their images in the ways that society dictates. Some people find it difficult to put on a false front...
...Some people are smart enough recognise that the demmands being made upon us are often extremly unethical, which is bound to cause cognitative disonence. If most authentic art was stated in a straight foward way then I think that those who created it would be deemed crazy. We have to live a lie to some extent I think and its enough to make anyone want to scream and shout. Its enough in my case anyhow.
What's also really widespread is the fanatic notion that the common man should completely blame himself if he is not bulletproof and completely self-sustaining... meanwhile, the secure and powerful are secure and powerful precisely because they keep to themselves the understanding that mankind is a highly vulnerable thing who must be carefully nurtured and supported at all times in order to thrive and prosper in this harsh world.
...There is an absolute double standard of self-blame at work.
Bro! It is just a conundrum. No one knows the answers to the questions you allude to, even though we all ask those same questions of ourselves! How many times a day do I ask myself; Am I just crazy? How many times a day are my suspicions confirmed? It's OK, you question your own sanity, mine is long gone. You can live without it, you know? I am living proof! BTW, I consider insanity, in these times, to be a badge of honor. Hope I didn't piss you off!
You didn't piss me off one bit. I think I have gotten closer to some of the answers, at least for me, although, yeah, some things you can never "really" know, just experience. I think the first useful step is in realizing these voices are not always the truth, at least.

The glue of gratuitous cruelty holds together the nightmare society... such as ours.

It is something really widespread in our way of thinking, this guilt, this idea of sin and powerlessness.

The openness you've shown and the empathy I feel makes this a true gem. Well Done.
