Another tip, this pedal isn't that great. Sounds too overly squashed. If you want a better comp for a lower price, try the MXR dyna comp. It's not that I don't like BOSS pedals, I do, but I mean this isn't that great of a pedal.

Im not sure why he used a marshall to demo a clean sound. Marshalls have the best dstortion, but terrible cleans. It would have been better with a 65, Fender, or VOX amp.

but i definitely disagree in saying it's best for distortion. a good sound starts with a good clean sound. then you can work with your distortion settings to get the sound you want, but if you don't have a clean sound that you like you won't achieve a satisfactory distorted sound either.

cause it's two different things... I think Marshall's amp overdrive is fine, I even used it to record a song... YET, I prefer to build up my own tone using a pedal over a clean sound that I like, I end up with better results usually! as jozh90 said, I wouldn't say Marshall cleans are horrible but Fender and Vox just have a lot more personality IMO.

i have a CS-3 and the thing is that it's only awesome if the nobbs are pretty high up, kind of like this:

level, 1 o'clock.

tone, 3 o'clock.

attack, maximum.

sustain, 3 o'clock.

with those settings, i get a pretty sharp sound, lots of sustain, and even some sort of gain, but no actual distortion. it's preety cool.

What does this pedal do?

It basically automatically adjusts the volume so that the string sort of stays at the same volume--sustains--longer. It's like turning up a volume control as the string fades away. Lead guitarists use compressors a lot.

Probably you can't hear it so well here because the camcorder mic has its own compressor built in and kind of hides the effect.

also the box is made of cardboard and it is white with a blue top cover that makes putting the box back together that much easier. Inside the box is some paper with words and some stuff in plastic wrap (blah blah blah 20 minutes later) i also have on a white shirt that comes with its own warrenty information and my jeans have skid marks in them

I have this pedal and I mostly use it to even out my tone so that I get the same attack between highs and lows. I feel it works best this way because it allows me to attack the strings more confidently since I know what Ill be getting from each string in terms of volume. But, yeah, it took me months to figure out how to use it and it was completely out of my line up for a long time.

ive heard of people using a ibanez TS9 tone screamer for a good sustain, not useing it for the overdrive it gives. Would that be a better choice than this pedal?

alot of people use the ts9 just to get a little push for like a solo, it doesnt really compress the signal.

pretty much a compressor just boost notes that dont get heard as well, and cuts off your top end so it's not intense.

it basically evens things up a bit on the low and high end, the sustain knob just lets you hold out the notes longer.

the ts9 doesnt really sustain at all, it just boost everything, your low and your high end.

the ts9 just boosts, it's best used for tube amps, like the stevie ray vaughan sound.

he had an overdriven amp *not distorted* and then just used the ts9 to give it some a tiny tiny bit of grit and a little boost.

it wont compress though. it only boosts.

and it wont sustain.

i think there's sound clips from gearwire for the ts08 which is sorta' the same sound the ts9 gives.

if you watch that you'll kinda' get a better understanding of their differences.

You have to use this pedal with distortion. Kind of useless using the CS-3 for a clean sound, specially with a Fender. It´s a good pedal for hard rock!
