His definition of shirk is not very clear. What does he mean by ‘give the rights?’ For example, if I give Zakaat to an official collector, then it is Allah’s right that this money is given to the poor. So if the collector takes the money for himself (and he is rich), has he committed shirk according to Yasir? It is a strange definition.

@Synergistik If I had to give an advice to Brother Yasir, I would advise him to go straight to the point in his lectures else the information gets 'diluted'. Use less words and our Prophet SAW used to speak with only a few words but they had so much weight. Anyway Br. Yassir is doing a good job.

I like polytheism for the better protection of Creation, and I see nothing wrong with it. I want to be a mushrik. Polytheism is tolerance and freedom. The ancient Egyptians and Greeks were polytheists and achieved wonderful civilization. If it were wrong, God would not have given the Greeks the beautiful invention of democracy. Islaam orders mankind with Tawheed only - that we should believe and worship Allaah alone.

The Islaamic testification of faith is: Nothing has the right to be worshipped but Allaah and that Muhammad is His messenger. The first part of the testimony - Nothing has the right to be worshipped but Allaah - is the foundation of Islaam.

We believe that Messengers including Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad were sent to deliver God's message, the foundation of which is to call people to the worship and servitude of God alone.

Tawheed = Monotheism, which in Islaamic terms means the belief and worship of one God (Allaah) alone. We are commanded to do all acts of worship for the sake of Allaah alone, including prayer and supplication. Nothing has the right to be worshipped but Allaah (God).

Shirk = The opposite of Tawheed. Shirk is polytheism, idol worship, paganism etc. The belief and worship of others along with the one true God (Allaah). Shirk includes the worship of Prophets, saints, idols, objects etc.

Proof regarding levelling graves:: From Abu Al-Hayaaj Al-Asadiy who said Ali ibn Abi Taalib said to me I am dispatching you upon what the Messenger dispatched me upon, that, you do not leave statues except you deface it nor a grave raised except you level it This hadeeth is in Kitaab ul-Janaaiz 2/666 in Muslim.

Proof from the Quraan that intercession is NOT allowed is in Surah Yunus 10:18 And they worship besides Allâh things that hurt them not, nor profit them, and they say: "These are our intercessors with Allâh." Say: "Do you inform Allâh of that which He knows not in the heavens and on the earth?" Glorified and Exalted be He above all that which they associate as partners with Him!

Shirk is not limited to idols and includes seeking intercession through Prophets, Angels, Jinns and the righteous. Surah Az-Zumar 39:3 Surely, the religion (i.e. the worship and the obedience) is for Allâh only. And those who take Auliyâ' (protectors and helpers) besides Him (say): "We worship them only that they may bring us near to Allâh." Verily, Allâh will judge between them concerning that wherein they differ. Truly, Allâh guides not him who is a liar, and a disbeliever.

People at the time of The Prophet used to worship, idols, trees, stones, angels and more. Allaah and His Messenger considered all of these actions of people who worshipped other than Allaah as Shirk. It does not matter whom you call upon, if it is other than Allaah then it is classed as Shirk.

Yes there have been great Muslims over the centuries whom we must respect; The Prophet, The Sahabah, The Prophets family members, the scholars/imams. But we should not raise a persons status above that which Allaah has given. Therefore, we cannot call upon (dua) anyone except Allaah, no matter how great the individual. Nothing has the right to be worshipped but Allaah alone. We love all those whom Allah loves, but we do not make dua to them or through them (intercession shafa).

Building mosques or places of worship over graves is forbidden. In fact we have been ordered to level elevated graves. The shrines across the Islaamic world are all forbidden. Visiting them is sinful. What is worse however, is that those who visit these shrines call upon other than Allaah, which is Shirk. See how shaytaan has deceived the Muslims and taken them away from worshipping Allaah to worshipping the dead! Islaam orders us to supplicate (dua) to Allaah alone.
