Check out 6:58 -- even after he makes the great pass, he has the presence of mind to seal off his teammate's defender to allow him the open jump shot. It was subtleties like that which made him one of the smartest players ever.
Don't ever ask again why he was the greatest player in the NBA. When Red Auerbach says if he had to take on guy who ever played and that guy would be Larry Bird, . . . well, that says it.
The greatest anomaly of NBA history: how one dirt poor Hoosier kid who couldn't jump, wasn't fast enough, supposedly couldn't dunk, etc. developed what was, perhaps, the greatest heart in sports history altogether.
And he still says his brother was a better player than he was!
@mckennal1851 He developed his game better than anybody ever considering how unathletic he was. If Magic was as unathletic as Larry I don't think he would have made the NBA.
Like it? I Love this!!! I got the chillss!!!! I'm a Bird admirer. He is a genius. I've never seen so much great Bird goodage. Passing is my favorite aspect of the game and you really captured it. When you put the 80's music rockit and axelf, I had a hallucination flashback of when I was ten years old getting ready for our daily break dance contest that we had before homeroom. I was the master at freestyle body popping. I love basketball. I recently thought about giving up but NOpe.
Great post Merk, and further proof that Bird was the best passer ever. He had insane court vision, feel for t he game and the ambidexterity to throw passes with either hand. He didn't play point guard so his assists shouldn't be compared to the point guard position. Only Magic had similar vision but I think Bird was even more creative and deceptive. His angles and thread the needle passes (especially between opponents legs) were breathtaking!!
@timfosho most of the greatest passers in the world are white. ie..nash..west..ect... its cuz we leave the jumping and dunking to the brothas. we stick to passing and shooting

Not the most prolific passer but one of the best. He always knew where his teammates are.

Bird knew how to get his teammates involved, he wasn't even a PG, but could pass so well. Damn and I thought Nash was a great passer...

Great videos of this part of Bird's game. If only he hadn't hurt his back fixing his mom's porch and if Len Bias hadn't died....sigh...

@TheNameOfMyAccount So true. When Bias died, the Celtic lineage died, as well...even though they did win a couple of years ago.
