Did any of you guys see the cartoon...........where the astronauts reach the moon and see a woman lying there and one looks at the other and say is shock........omg..its Alice Cramdon!!!!!!!!!LOL
It's amazing, inspite of the sophistication of modern recording techniques and playing etc....this still does not have the impact or feel of the original....Les was unique! RIP Red.
Ah, hell....Les and Leo Fender were friends from way back. I doubt any hurt feelings were inflicted on Les....although I will admit it's weird hearing/seeing most of the lead lines played on a Strat.
That's nice, but I disagree. They have deprived the world for the child {or children} that they could've produced are the the only ones that could've been.
Toni is a futuristic bionic creation from "Blade Runner" without an expiration date, my God!!! ... just luv this retro Les Paul, Mary Ford-esque rendition!
This is a great big band vocal of a classic. The horns provide the big jazzy sound and spice up the vocal. One question, is that the infamous Phil Spector playing guitar at the start (the guy on the right)?...Jim, Columbus, OH
this reminds me of the blue opera singer in the 5th element... scary funny fun lol.. milli vanilli-ish.. but i guess if you're into that 80s synthesized sound than it works for you... it was cool. I don't know about her givin r&b vocalists a run for their money tho.... two completely different styles...
this song is brilliant!!!!! I always liked captian and tennille but I will have go back into her back catalog and order some of her big band music thanks for the post :o)
No offense taken. I think her arrangements on this song will probably be received better by people in the US. Leaning on the pop side, it's always a risk that it appeals less to international audiences. Maybe that's a bit over-simplifying, but that's my 2 cents.
Although I don't discuss your opinion (like me you're entitled to one), I find the whole artificial side (effects on the guitars, dubbed voice and the like) too much for conveying emotion.
I'm sure I have a lot to learn about music. That doesn't mean you know more, but that's another (worthless) debate. It's the first time I hear that Ella screwed up that song though. So I listened to Les Paul's version. I understand your point if your reference for judging Tenille's is that one. Both, though, sound too much like American pop to me. I'm more a jazz fan.
I'm not discussing who wrote it (in which case Wikipedia says you're wrong, but since that's not the point...). I've got examples of songs where the cover was better than the original anyway. I'd like to hear how you think Ella screwed the song, though. With artistic arguments if such a thing exists.
You are a fool. It was written by Morgan Lewis with lyrics by Nancy Hamilton for the Broadway Musical Two For The Show (first performed in 1940). YOU are the waste of time, just like this version of the song =)
So should we vote down people's comments when their opinion is not the same as ours or when they say offensive things? I don't think this was offensive, andrewenn17 so I'll vote you up again :-).
This is wonderful!! Toni does an outstanding job on this song as she does on everything she sings, she makes it her own, a Toni Tennille original which is always great!
This is the first song on Toni's Moonglow CD. I remember when I first got the CD and played it for the first time and hearing this song. It was quite special and it still is - and so is Toni. She's quite special.
Tennille98 firstly, you'll love dwc0, he's obviously a Toni fan. Secondly, this version which I like is based on the Les Paul and Mary Ford (1950 I think) multi-part version which is one of my favourites. It stayed top of the US charts for 9 weeks. Beat that 50 cents, sorry two bits.
Sorry tenille that I took so long to answer. I've been browsing for versions of this song, after listening to Ella Fitzgerald's. I'm simply saying that this one will leave no mark in history. She doesn't bring much to the song, that's my opinion.
haha its funny how people analyze this as if they know jazz inside in out...if they did they would know that jazz is all about makin it your own...thats what the chick did..i dont dig it that much...but that doesnt mean shes doin it the "wrong" way lmao
I asked my poledancer that question. I also looked it up in Wikepedia. LOL used by teenagers means lots of laughs or laughter or laugh out loud. It can also mean lots of love too apparently. There are other things I don't understand like xD and =P but I can't be bothered to find out. It's probably all text speak. We're breeding a generation of illiterate morons.
She looks silly. Ok, so she can do Mary Ford harmonies with herself....Those two guitarists suck tho...Les Paul is in his nineties and ready to roll in his grave when he gets there after this performance!
You are so right. I have the CD. I also have her Moonglow CD which is kind-of the same as her "More Than You Know" CD except for 2 songs. "More Than You Know" has the song, "Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me", but not "Moonglow". However "Moonglow" has 2 songs "They All Laughed" and "Honeysuckle Rose" which are not on the "More Than You Know" CD. I'm glad to have both.
Thanks to Les Paul and Mary Ford who wrote and produced this song in the 50's. The Music industry as we know it would not be the same without all of their innovations.
You are absolutely right Ticket88. Les Paul developed the first solid guitar as well as multitracking (or multiparting as he preferred to call it). I have Les and Mary's version of this great record as one of my favourites. It's just fabulous.
Actually I think Toni looks bloody sexy in this and I can't really pay her a bigger compliment. I also think that she sings it well so yah boo sucks to the knockers and boo boys.
