This was my first album from Rush after a recommendation from my brother to listen to Rush and this was the cheapest Rush vinyl they had so I bought it and played the shit out of it also.
RUSH IS THE GREATEST MUSIC MAKERS ALL TIME ALL GENRES . it is just to difficult to comprehend there vast greatness in creativity when we are all still anticipating what they will bring next.the world will mourn when the end of there brilliant dominance happens.i just smirkily smile when bands like beatles, rolling stones, pink floyd, aerosmith, acdc, bla bla bla ect ect ect all get the main media nod as the great's. just the way rush wrote it.lol
I know a lot of critics, musicians, critics, and fans didn't like this album, but how can you not like this?! This easily trumps most of Led Zeppelin's stuff.
@Gettheledoutstyle Who's dissing Zeppelin? I only said that I think this is better than "most of Led Zeppelin's stuff". Not "all of it". I love Kashmir, Since I've Been Loving You, and Babe I'm Gonna Leave You as much as the next person.
@nicksesta231289 i was sorta disappointed by that as well. would have been cooler if they flowed together instead of being separated by short silence.
They were originally shooting for that, but they ended up doing it in segments then putting it together and it sort of lost the flow. Still a great piece though.
@Kostas4e: If you like this song and The Necromancer, I think you would enjoy South Side Of The Sunrise which is on Yes's "Fragile" and anything on Close To The Edge, also by Yes. "Were we ever colder on that day? A million miles away! It seemed far from eternity!"
Rush's best song. The story of a man in search of his life goal, each phase of his life with different emotions. And with those different emotions come different tones, feelings, lyrics, and pacing for each phase. Pure beauty and genius. Probably the greatest prog song of all time, and one of the best rock songs of all time. While other rush songs might have been more technical, this them at their best as composers.
Never understood why no one liked Caress of Steel. They said it was because its all concept, although I think that Hemispheres and on were much more progressive than this album. And concept is one of the best parts! Great fucking tune.
this is the best song by rush ever ever ever ever ever ever ever maybe ever kuz rush is really awesome and they have other songs that defiantly competes with this song. which is awesome. lets smoke a doobie.
I have to say, Rush is the all-time greatest band in history. Listening to this song is as if Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart got together to make one masterpiece that is 42 years years long!! Epic is an understatement!!
@gabejdb1234 They are. Rush themselves loved this album and they were very dissapointed when the rest of the world didn't. I too love this album. I think it's one of their best.
@gabejdb1234 totally agree, COS was a brilliant album released way ahead before its time. perhaps some fans thought its was too much to take in and couldnt handle it. and those who did "get it" couldnt have a say on how great this album really was cuz they didnt have the social media that exists today. its sad how back then people would actually judge music, films, etc soley depending on how the critics would rate them. but today, thanx to the web, no one gives a shit what critics say.
@Kostas4e Yes, there are quite a few, but I would most highly recommend Close to the Edge by Yes, Relayer by Yes, Godbluff by Van der Graaf Generator, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway by Genesis, and Selling England By the Pound by Genesis. All very good albums, though I prefer listening to Yes out of the three bands.
@Kostas4e Days of Future Passed and In Search of the Lost Chord are my favorite by them. If you like The Moody Blues I would also recommend listening to The Alan Parsons Project; Emerson, Lake, and Palmer; and Nektar. If there's anything you'd like me to upload I'd be glad to do so.
@Kostas4e I'm not sure if someone already mentioned the album Nursery Cryme by Genesis to you, but that's one of my favorites from them.....the Musical Box and The Return of the Giant Hogweed of that album are some of my favorite Genesis tunes.....other than that I think most people covered the fantastic albums by all three amazing bands (Yes is my favorite out of the three)...
@Kostas4e For a challenge, I recommend pre-Dark Side Pink Floyd. Work backwards to warm yourself up. The album titles are: Meddle, Atom Heart Mother, Umma Gumma, A Saucerful of Secrets and Piper at the Gates of Dawn (that one is something completely different). They also have a few movie soundtracks which are great in their own right. Obscured by Clouds and More.
