We use these cameras to record flights and the go pro gets resister interference from the engine the contours do not no more go pro for us they will make good shotgun targets I wonder if I can video that?
I really like the new contour + but the darkness of the video it takes concerns me. I'm buying this camera for solely taking underwater footage. Is there a way to adjust the contrast and darkness of the video to make it more "brighter"?

@NorEastBeast to download the software just go to Contour's website and look for "Easy Edit Software" download and install it. It makes life so much easier when recording and managing videos.

I don't understand why GoPro can't shape the camera better. It's a big ugly wart. lol. I play paintball and wanted one on my goggles and/or gun but it's just to obtrusive. The Contour is sleek and small and out of the way. You can also rotate the lens on the Contour so it can be mounted in any position. Once GoPro fixes those issues they will rule but until then I have to go with the Contour ROAM
@wcjcnc in ur case a contour with a more slim design is great, but the gopro is still great. the contour would be a pain in the ass for me when i longboard and want to pass it off to my friends. plus the square shape helps me know the angle of footage i'm getting when i'm in a tuck and can't see where it's pointing and just have to go on feel.
Thank you for this video. The Contour under exposure annoys the heck out of me. They are poor with dark shades. But, when you freeze the frames, you can see that the focus and clarity is superior. Life is full of trade-offs.
GoPro has better lighting qualities but with contour if you upload to you tube you can use the light correction which i do not recommend but if you have something to do that with and it comes out okay then okay
@payback118 : the fish eye effect of gopro is magnified underwater. Just as easy it may be to fix the contour, it is just as easy for the gopro. I think the flat eye case is called "eye of mine" I think that would be a good comparison for underwater, as the contour requires an additional accessory as well.
@elzipitio It's the nature of electronics, the Contour HD 1080p was about 18 months old and Contour have a new entry level camera called the Contour Roam. It made sense for them to discontinue the HD 1080p
@launchhelmetcams The contour hd 1080p may have been discontinued but it is still for sale. The roam does have bad reviews and it is worth $171 on Amazon wile the contour hd has better reviews and it is worth $125 on Amazon. I think I will go with the contour 1080p. Would you say I am making a wise decision?
@launchhelmetcams I don't like the ROAM because it doesn't have a removable battery or changeable storage and I don't care about still photos from my view. I care about video. the water proof to 1 meter is pretty good though. share your opinions
@Taxemicshadow It is a shame that the Roam doesn't have a removable battery, however the memory is changeable. We think the Contour Roam is a great camera for the money. If you like lots of features and adjustability then it might not be the camera for you, but if you want a simple to use camera that gets the job done then it is a really good option.
@launchhelmetcams The only real big , unbelievably huge let down of the roam is an internal battery. I snowboard and sometimes we go up to maybe killington or somewhere and I cant drag a computer along to have sitting in the lodge to charge my camera eery 2 hours. With the hd one I could have 2 or 3 spare charged batteries on me. as well as a 32gb memory card.

@Arnoud242 Yes, you can use the Contour Plus in the snow without the protective case. You can even use it in the rain all day without the case. You only need the case if you are going underwater. If you are in the USA or Australia and need anything just contact us and we'll look after you.

I have been looking at other videos, compairing the 2 and all show the same thing in my eyes. It is a hard to chose. I am waiting for some more reviews on the GoPro Hero 2 before making up my mind. Gopro can do much better then that video, check my channel for plenty of gopro underwater videos focus fixed and also using UR pro filters in the last few videos.
There are many different focus fixes available for the gopro so comparing a stock gopro vs a contour with an add-on housing isn't all that fair a test.
@martcerv you are obviously correct. That isn't really a secret.
Your channel is really amazing! You certainly get some sweet footage, and the underwater comparison video is really good too. We will definitely send our customers to your channel for reference when they are asking about the focus fixes.
@martcerv just looked at your videos, i see that the contour also gives better color, and depth than the gopro, not saying the gopro is crap or anything, but for the money they should fix it up a little more, and what do you mean an addon housing? you mean the case to make it go underwater like the gopro has?

The Gopro underwater housing is standard as it cant be bought without one yet funnily enough its crap underwater unless an aftermarket flat fix is used to fix the focus.
So a good test would be if both where in the best underwater configurations available so we can get a fair comparison, Id be interested in the results of such a test.

@Master7Zero Most people shoot in r3 mode with the gopro, 1280x720 at 60fps this produces some of the best video if the camera is in motion, its also a higher FOV mode which helps get more in the frame. Water magnifies the image a little so higher FOV is a bonus for this use. 1080 at 30p is best when the camera is kept very still, can get get a little jumpy with any camera motion. Focus fix is a pain but the SRP blurfix has done this so well it adds more then just a flat fix allowing filters too
The GoPro looks more brighter and clear with the color of ocean and ripples of the water. But the contour is a little dark but with more details of the corral riffs and fish. dont know which to get? just wish one had both bright colors with detail.
Sartek makes an excellent housing for the GoPro with the correct lens istalled. It is a great improvement over the standard GoPro housing which I'm sure was used in this video.
The go pro image is blurred because of the dome port of the housing. This problem was fixed by eye of mine which manufactures a modified housing with a flat port, making the image sharp underwater. There are plenty of articles and posts about that issue, as well as test videos
staltercj sorry to say but i would disagree. when i said Contour produces better quality images i really never mentioned that it's probably because of the waterproof housing. if you check out some reviews in or out of the water the picture quality of the contour is reallly better. the colors are much more vivid on the contour camera than the gopro. you should checkout the other test here at youtube gopro vs contour.
it's pretty obvious that the gopro seems to produce more lighting although Contour HD has better picture quality on either 720p and 1080p. i would go for the contour and you can get it for $140 now.
The reason the Contour has better underwater quality (and only underwater, I personally think the GoPro has better image quality above water) is because it's waterproof housing has a flat lens on the front, while the GoPro has a curved housing lens due to the much wider angle of view. Since you have the curve of the actual lens, and the curve of the class on the housing there is some distortion.
@snicker292 This is true. They are all 'weather proof' (rain/spashes/mud/snow etc) but you need a waterproof housing to dunk them. The waterproof housing is rated to 10m with the 1080 but the one for the GPS and the PLUS is good to 60m.

GoPro's better above water and, even here, the GoPro contrast and colors are better below water IMO as well. Contour does not come with an underwater housing and currently does not have one that fits their new (GPS version) camera because that camera's bigger than their previous ones. That's true, this test isn't very fair. For what the GoPro costs with the BlurFix you can buy 2 Contours with waterproof cases.
I think it just comes down to taste. I prefer the flatter profile of the Contour, I think it's better suited as a helmet cam.

iam keen on getting a camera, i think the contour is the one id prefer to have underwater (freediving/spearfishing) its better shaped and easier to handle

through the video the different seens are annotated to say which resolutions and lens angles are used.
For under water use i prefer to use the Contour. With 30 seconds on final cut pro the lighting and colors can be made to a level you would see on tv.

There is currently no flat lens directly from GoPro...I will be doing further comparisons on light settings above ground too.

Throw a flat lens housing on the GoPro, and Contour doesn't stand a chance. Want an example, check out YouTube video: /watch?v=sxDbjxHS0pA
GoPro's better above water and, even here, the GoPro contrast and colors are better below water IMO as well. Contour does not come with an underwater housing and currently does not have one that fits their new (GPS version) camera because that camera's bigger than their previous ones. Plus, the Contour housing is MASSIVE... have you see that thing?
