Don't get the VOA wrong. The VOA is paid (1,200/month/vet) by the VA to house the vets, the VOA then in turn charges the Vets rent (30% of any income- disability included). Its a sweet deal for the VOA. When Veteran's staying at the local VOA asked for an American Flag to be flown over the building they were told that they had to get their own, and they could ask the American Legion to donate one, If that isn't disgusting enough, the VOA itself has an actual billboard on the side of the Legion.

Where ever you are, if you volunteer at Volunteers of America I say thank you. I stayed in your Sacramento shelter twice and was given an apartment and a job and a chance. I was able to buy a car and get the job I really wanted. I worked 8 years and only missed 2 days. Because you cared I was able to make it and enjoy life! With my car I was able to help others and brighten their day as well as mine.  You helped bridge the gap. I reach out my hand to you and say thank you!
