we sang this every week at school and the other hymn was lord of all hopefullness, which had the same tune, my kids had never heard it till i played it to them, i guess in this changing world they will never know the true meaning of the school assembly. and im not religious but it held me in good stead all these years and the assembly singing hymns like this was the best part of the day.
Oh, to hear the language of my Irish ancestors sung by such a beautiful voice is wonderful...However the true happiness that my soul feels is because of the fact that these words glorify God. I may not be able to understand them as my ancestors did, but I know that they glorify my God, and it brings me peace.
This haunting version takes me out of the troubles of this world to a place of peace and inspiration. Makes me so proud to be Irish! Bless you and thanks for sharing this! You cannot imagine how much I needed to hear this!
I tend to agree that there seems to be something contradictory about associating a poem or song, which is in effect a very profound prayer, which a game about dragons, especially thinking of the carry-over from the superstitions of our past.
Where I live in South Dakota, there's a Celtic Shop, & I bought a book with tapes to learn the language of my Gaelic Irish ancestors. I figured out, though that trying to read it is soo difficult! This is truly a beuatiful song, & it takes me, too, out of the mundane world & transports me to somewhere else. Thank you! I needed this today so very much!
well...actually...when I listened to the song for the first time I liked it so much that I decided to make a video using it, but I didn't know what it was about, so I just thought that it will go fine with the game. But now that you know...what is it about? ^_^
Just in case no one told you, this is an old Christian hymn, which is beautiful! If you want to hear a good Christian artist sing this, Rebbecca St. James Be Thou My Vision, does justice to this song! I hope you Enjoy!
ditto @ mandy chaplin i too knew it as lord of all hopefulness at school only learned this version at church

I heard that Maire Brennan is the sister of the Irish singer ENYA, is that right?

She is. I found that out while reading up on Clannad. Their names are Máire Ní Bhraonáin and Eithne Patricia Ní Bhraonáin.
This song is so gorgeous! It's one of my favorite hymns.

absolutely beautiful
the lyrics I know
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart
Naught be all else to me save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought by day or by night
Waking or sleeping Thy presence my light
High King of Heaven after victory is won
May I reach Heaven's joys O bright Heaven's Sun
Great Heart of my own heart whatever befall
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all

Lyrics Cont:
Will You be my guidance
In my words and actions?
Stay with me forever
And keep me on the right path
As my Father take care of me
And listen to my prayers
And give me a place
To live inside Your heart

Here's the English translation. Hope you like them.
Be my vision
Oh King of creation
Fill my life
With understanding and patience
Will You be in my mind
Every night and everyday?
Sleeping or awake
Fill me with Your love

Beautifull music, however, since I know what the music is about, I don't realy get the connection with the video.

What a beautiful singing voice!
And the imagery in the video works well with the ethereal feel of the music.

I agree her voice is mystical - she is of course a sister of the famous singer Enya (whose Irish name is Eithe Ni Bhraonain)
