Even if the meat is contaminated with methyl mercury, 1 bite isn't enough to increase a person's internal methyl mercury level to the point of poisoning them. Years of eating a diet high in meat content that contains methyl mercury can lead to poisioning. Not 1 bite.

Not all whale meat has toxic levels of heavy metals though. The Southern Ocean Minke whale has very low toxin levels and is as safe to eat as most fish.
Yes, there are some whale species out there that are loaded with toxic heavy metals, but not all are.
I believe the Southern Ocean Minke has lower heavy metal content then farm raised salmon. Farm raised salmon is safe to consume, so therefore the SO Minke is too. Now the Northern Minke has a lot more heavy metal contamination.

the northern minke whale is no different than the southern minke whale. i did research on it and the whales both can kill humans with their meat. and salmon is farm raised so the farmers check for health, unlike the japanese whalers who kill without remorse.

You are correct, the whalers do not check the health of the whale before they kill it. However, the Japanese Governement does check the toxin levels before the meat hits the market. Sometimes meat with toxin levels too high make it to the market, but it is usually caught before the distribution is to wide. Just like in other countries.

They are in international waters and under international law you cannot kill someone just for boarding your ship unless they pose a clear and immediate threat, which the non violent activists do not. I f the Japanese were to kill any of the activists the issue would explode in their faces by giving the nations of the world (which are already quite fed up with Japan for not cooperating) a legitimate reason to shut Japan down by upping the sanctions already in place. Japan has been and still is resorting to political tactics such as bribery, doctoring data, and press blackouts. Even if the meat is contaminated with methyl mercury, 1 bite isn't enough to increase a person's internal methyl mercury level to the point of poisoning them. Years of eating a diet high in meat content that contains methyl mercury can lead to poisioning. Not 1 bite.

i dont think so. i am a sea shepherd myself and when things get hot, they stay. Sea Shepherd is willing to go to the end to save the lives of these amazing sentient beings from those illegally poaching murderers. Paul laughs every time they try to hurt or kill him, but gets serious when they threaten his crew or a whale.

I respect your devotion in protecting our ecosystems. I am a biologist who recycles and does his best to leave the smallest carbon footprint as possible. Don't you think you could have a stronger impact by promoting the establishment of more protected sanctuaries? Look at how much influence Dr. Suzuki has. The pen is mightier than the sword. Not all whale meat has toxic levels of heavy metals though. The Southern Ocean Minke whale has very low toxin levels and is as safe to eat as most fish.
Yes, there are some whale species out there that are loaded with toxic heavy metals, but not all are.

I believe the Southern Ocean Minke has lower heavy metal content then farm raised salmon. Farm raised salmon is safe to consume, so therefore the SO Minke is too. Now the Northern Minke has a lot more heavy metal contamination.
So, are you saying that farm raised salmon is killing humans too?

the northern minke whale is no different than the southern minke whale. i did research on it and the whales both can kill humans with their meat. and salmon is farm raised so the farmers check for health, unlike the japanese whalers who kill without remorse.

You are correct, the whalers do not check the health of the whale before they kill it. However, the Japanese Governement does check the toxin levels before the meat hits the market. Sometimes meat with toxin levels too high make it to the market, but it is usually caught before the distribution is to wide. Just like in other countries.

then they do a shitty job. even if the northern is higher, they are both still able to kill humans. the Japanese government is full of lies, they can say whatever they want, but health departments have told many places to not eat whale meat since they have found proof that the toxins are not removed. they CANT be removed because it is part of the whale. the amount of times they have found the meat with high levels is HUGE. eating whale meat is BAD and SICK! we should stick to pigs and cows

The governments set a limit of what is deemed acceptable levels of heavy metals. Most Southern Minke whale meat is below that limit, this it is safe to consume. Please PM your link that shopws Southern Minke is unsafe.
