The Vietnam Conflict was a war to prevent vietnamese independence, and its methodology was one of rural extermination & depopulation. The vietnamese boy is too generous. America could just have easily allowed immigration, without invading and occupying the RSVN.
Stopping Communism is an excuse.
OSS as a condition, could have easily thwarted its growth in the North after the Japanese occupation was ended. Instead we chose to grow an enemy so we could draft and destroy our own youth.
No vietnamese boy, the Vietnam Conflict was not badly handled or bungled.
The outcome that was inflicted, was the one desired. ON THE RECORD the rural South Vietnamese civil population was directly targeted for extermination, to be conducted by unspotted artillery fire fired into villages and aerial bombardment of rural habitation.
"Casualties, North Vietnam = 15 million" hmm, this can't be right. Vietnam only claims 5.3 million Vietnamese killed, injured of missing during the Vietnam War.
Also, the report about the VC capturing the US Embassy for 7 hours during the Tet Offensive is untrue and is a media error. They only got as far as the garden and never penetrated the building itself.
But the US war crimes were horrific and true. Makes Saddam or Bin Laden look like amateurs
The vietnam war should have never taken place. This is all the United States fault. Who cares if the United States looked like a coward. Is it really worth human lives?
The north vietnamese started that war, and commited more wide scale murders than any US units.
The North didn't have to go into the south and start killing, but nationalistic anger drove them to start killing the southerners, the US tried to help.
"In memory of all souls claimed by the Vietnam war, north, south and american." I am south Vietnamese myself born in Saigon, i am well aware of the crimes committed by the North, please note that the video is about war crimes in general in Vietnam and does not reflect the views of any comments posted here. This was a "stock footage" assignment given to me in the EIGHTH GRADE. Think before speaking please.
Oh, thank you for that insult, but I am thinking before I speak, you or your friend were talking about "war crimes" but never stated the oppositions crimes, and said the americans "interfered" and fought a "dirty war" But ask yourself what would have happened if the US never went to help the south vietnamese, they would have looked like cowards.
look im not gunna argue with you because you are a pissed off you tube viewer, cool, critique my 8th grade assignment all you want. Did i say that the war was dirty because of Americans? No. Are you denying that it wasn't one of America's grittest wars? We lost it. So did the people of south Vietnam. Also good job taking my words out of context remember the part before i said they interfered about them helping? The South Vietnamese people would have looked like cowards Think before you speak
Ahaha there you go again witht the insults, take a deep breath and talk to me like an adult kiddo, Yes I remember that part but it's quite an oxymoron to say one thing and contradict it right after, you need to think before texting kid!
We never lost it we won every battle, the hippies in San Franciso lost it for us, we pulled out, and after Tet, we could have won the VC was wiped out then, You need to do some more research child!
When did I ever say the South would have looked like cowards, can you read? You should mention the hard work of the US soldier and Marines to even make it as fighting men, the complete discipline and mental determination to make it through military training. Something you know nothing about, and could never handle. Your video is a slap in the face to vets, "they helped, but they interfered" think before texting.
@area51er6 First off, its not an insult, its a suggestion, that you don't have to accept, and you sure aren't. I would talk to you like an adult if you weren't busy being bothered by some "kids" video project, so sure let me slow down for you and explain that my project guideline IN THE EIGHTH GRADE was about Crimes of war in Vietnam and not an homage to veterans, or us soldiers at all. I don't even want to talk about how texting is relevant at all let alone add that i don't do it.
@area51er6 Also tell that to my dad who spent 7 years in a VC reeducation camp, after tet, if "the VC was wiped out" how did tet even happen? Please don't try and lecture me about a country i was born in and raised learning about. And please don't misinterpret sections of my words to insinuate any disrespect towards veterans or soldiers, my father is one. Over 75% of this was stock foortage of hearts and minds, if you have a problem write to their publishers. Enjoy your pride. Goodbye.
The VC planned Tet in their tunnels, and put all their men in that battle and lost it within 3-4 days, the NVA was unhappy with the outcome and completely took over the fighting from their on, Just like your father I'm also a veteran of war (Afghanistan) and I'm back in Vancouver now, I may run into you :)
the north wouldn't have done that if the United States would have just let the south election take place. I'm pretty sure the North and the South coulda been unified peacefully. 80% of the South would have voted for Ho Chi Minh. The other 20% could have just left with the United States. My village got destroyed but luckily my family survived
I agree with you, in Vietnam alone the war caused something like 3 million dead and displaced millions more because American policy was to destroy all villages and crops so the 'vietcongs' couldn't get supplies. They used more firepower there than in WW2, nature was ravaged, and effects are still felt today (agent orange, etc...).
And well all know what happened in Cambodia after that, and America's actions was one of the main causes of this bloodshed.
Whats most disgusting about Americas antics is that its always non-white poor people who are the targets. People trying to defend their families from getting raped or burned alive and all they have is a shitty AK 47, then America flies overehead. Another area cleared of communist terrorists. Ask yourself, who is the real bad guy on planet earth?
@bantumwt, 130m dead from communism is like saying 130m died from capitalism such as Hitlar+Bush etc. WTF relevance do Hitlar and Bush have to eachother? None. Those 130 million people died in different countries, with different regimes, at different times, and with different communist parties. Typical american shit saying that communism is some overarching alignment. Every country has a communist party and they are all completely different according to the culture of that country.
Yes I know that, but that doesn't mean that what there doing or have done is ok....
Like the guinness book of records? lol
Ya I was watching a thing on the USSR the other day, comparing them to the Nazis, and well it makes them look like little kids compared to what the Soviets did.
Just the Soviets alone beat any other, in Ukraine in 1933 they killed something like 7 million people from famine etc... And alot more befpore and after that.
The US's support for dictators and wars of aggression are just as 'evil' as Stalin or Hitler's wars. But obviously with the propaganda your fed you can't see this, instruct yourself and open your eyes, ignorance kills.
The US is certainly not free of any involvement in atrocities against other peoples, but history records that more people were murdered under communist dictators than in all religious wars combined. The Guinnesss Book reports a conservative estimate of 130 Million murdered by communist dictators eg. Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Hoxha,Ceausescu, etc. - greatest mass killings in all of human history.
if they applied to same type of judgment they did to the axis forces at Nuremberg you would see that they ARE war criminals. In fact some of the generals, etc... of Japan and Germany were sentenced to death for atrocities and policies similar to those used by the US in Vietnam.
comparing the 'vc' to the US is ridiculous, you have the worlds biggest power fighting guerillas. They were savages there, sprayed agent orange which still has effects today, they displaced millions, caused millions of deaths and look what happened in Cambodia later.
They were clear war crimes, the US should use the standards it uses to judge other nations and apply it to themselves for a change, such hypocrites like all other empires in the past.
I love how you say that more crimes were committed by the 'VC' side, well perhaps BUT they were NOTHING compared to those of the Americans, who used extreme bombings on villages, killed, displaced tons of innocent people as official policy, they had no business to be there anyway.
The US always says it supports democracy but that's BULLSHIT, they support regimes that are favorable to their interests, and don't care for what the ppl of those countries really want like in Vietnam for example.
So tell me, what is communist, or for that matter democracy, dictorship or any other political system. These are all just labels. The truth is you cannot judge people in such a way which discriminates them below human level. Life is important and nobody can be judged by what is 'good and evil' The real evil is trying to justify killing and similar acts. So this message is not pro VC or pro America. This is a humanitarian message. A message of peace. A message of love. Give peace a chance.
The USA dropped nuclear bombs on Japan in the full knowledge that they would kill millions of innocent civilians. But they did it anyway.
The USA poured Agent Orange on the countryside of Vietnam, in the full knowledge that they would kill, injure and maim innocent civilians and cause birth defects for generations to come.
But they did it anyway.
War is wrong and so is killing innocent civilians deliberately - something which the US has a history of doing.
We're the American allied forces, we've come to protect you, open up!
All the girls were raped, then shot in the head. The mothers were executed, and babies were thrown into the air and shot at, then kicked like balloons. The fathers were taken onto helicopters and dropped from 100 m above the ground.
Another exaggerated one-sided lie! Crimes were perpetrated by both sides, more grizzly on the VC side in sheer size and number. Your line is passe now that the Soviet Union empire has fallen, and more truths are coming out everyday about the scale of mass murderings and destruction brought on by this evil system.
The Americans surpass every nation when it comes to mass killing and destruction of a nation of GOOKS! All WMDs are out, 2000 SE Asians exterminated per week, during ten years (520 weeks) in a row, not counting the 1945 famine two million deaths in Vietnam caused by their "allied" bombing of the dams and the Cambodia genocide.
I think the main thing that people need to realise is that war is wrong, no matter how much you justify it. You cannot say that you are fighting for your nation or on the side of God because the "enemy" probably says the same thing also. You can't justify killing, you can't justify some form of righteous cause. And to all those ppl who think that you are just fighting "the enemy", the enemy is probably someone's son, father or brother. There are no sides, there is no justification. Only death.
So let me get this right.....Its thank you America for saving my family but your wrong???? How about a thank you to those who served. They are the entire reason you are able to make this little stupid film
You cannot just go in and impose your values on another country. If you think that the world is made up of a good guy and a bad guy, you are wrong. America has no right to any form of license to kill and do anything against a human being. This war was one built on diplomatic and beauracratic action. If you take a life to redeem another, you only lose 2. So stop being so rightist and open your eyes. Uncle Sam is a monster, a product of the media. Patriotism is misguided. Wake up.

Brave men of the US Airborne. The US won great victory after great victory. Peace was bought to Vietnam through these great men. This is why the American people are loved.
hey guy! time to wake up and recognize that the US did terrible warcrimes in this beautiful country! when are the US ready to say good bye to their arrogance and their belief to be the king in the world? stop that ridiculous business
The United States of America, the American people and the heroic soldiers and airman of the United States of America do not and have never commited war crimes. To say so is effectively an act of war against the American people. The only war criminals in Vietnam were the enemy. War crimes are also against the American Constitution.
thank you for confirming my statement by your predictable answer. its easy to talk about war if the own country was never bombed and destroyed in an extensive dimension.
by the way: what do you tell all the disabled chidren (agent orange!!) in vietnam? the same fairy tale? (US has admit its blame in this affair by recompensing agent orange-contaminated US-soldiers. but the US refuse to recompense vietnamese families.) explain this fact relating to war crime and american "impeccability"!
" If certain acts and violations of treaties are crimes, they are crimes whether the United States does them or whether Germany does them. We are not prepared to lay down a rule of criminal conduct against others which we would not be willing to have invoked against us. "
— Justice Robert H. Jackson, Chief Prosecutor, Nuremberg War Crimes Trials
Read Bob Greene's "Homecoming". The war was televised. The whole world was horrified. From Nov 68 til the end, US soldiers returning from Vietnam were greeted with "Welcome home, you gangs of drug addicts, assassins, rapists, baby killers"... People spat on their face and on their uniform, they were an army of murderers, not soldiers. Joining the US Army they knew all war crimes acts will be covered up by the chain of command with full backing of the Military Justice Dept and of the presidents.
Cmmunism killed arund 100 milllins people. Shut your big silly mouth, brainless Kenneshit. AMERICANS CAN BE VERY VERY PRUD of what they cmpleted in Vietnam. The Media betrayed them !!!!!!
The novel's biyezu were Verkhovanski and Stavrogin; the real ones : Lenine, Trotsky, Stalin, Mao, Ho chi Min and Vo Nguyen GIAP; the rest are insane words. Communism is EVIL !!!!
Cmmunism pretends making human engineering. It's criminal by ESSENCE.... Fedor Dstoievsky wrote a novel where he predicted all this : The DEvils (in russian : Byezu ( biez in russsian means "without" so Byezu means : the men who lack something; this something has a name: humanity
We all have to agree that the revolution to chase out thieves back to France and the U.S. was tough and bloody. Many Asians have to pay the price. The one thing we can do now is to contain the ideology of robbery and mass murder that is mainly the foundation of the U.S. and other thieves control state. The best way to prevent similar things like Vietnam and Iraq is to contain thieves.

The United States *government* likes to stick it's nose where it doesn't belong too often. But, there are other wars occurring right now, too. There is way too much ignorance, hypocricy, and arrogance among humanity. War should be kept only to soldiers, unfortunately that does not happen.
As Eisenhower warned, the military/industrial complex will ensure that we are in a major war at least every 20 years. The total ramifications of that are mind boggling, but of course, it always benefits the wealthy.
The reason why our government in the U.S. also stick it nose where it doesn't belong is because the U.S. was founded on teh ideology robbery, mass torture, rape, women oppression, slavery, and genocide. We the American people had changed those principle for the better, but the thieves who infiltrate our government still drive the U.S. foreign policy. The continuous rob, kill, torture, rape, and installed dictator in countries that had not achieve as much freedom as the Americans.
I dont think this video is a waste..its great.. The man who says that we donot try to get into details of the situation before we attack..thats correct. The bombs that were dropped in vietman by the US were three times as many as in the entire WWII. Amazing ha!..plus entire farms, schools, hospitals, churches, houses, and entire villages were wiped out completely, hunderends of thousnds innocent, havin nothin to do wid war were killed in their own country. War crimes was another addition.

this video is a total waste of time. it has no point other than to say people get hurt in wars. no fucking duh! you are a 10 year old brain surgeon! if you really want to know what was at stake in Nam then study communist tactics for the spread of their empire, maybe then you will understand that the only way to have absolute peace is to surrender.
yeah people get hurt in wars u've just stated the obvious not I. , but see do you really acknowledge their deaths, not just American soldiers, but farmers, south Vietnamese north Vietnamese. But war particularly the Vietnam war gave soldiers the false sense of justice when a crime is taken to an extreme. Go rent "hearts and minds" read some books. Dont tell about communist tactics my dad is a vietnam war veteran, half of my family were killed by communists, including my older sister.
American's Love doing War crimes. It's ok as long as it's not against United States.
Even in World War 2 the 2 big Atomic bombs dropped and they want to stop Iran from Blowing them up like they did in WW2. It's ok for US but no one else. Plus the agent orange drop over Vietnam and Loas and Cambodia.Plus now killing innocent in Iraq. Think of the hurt caused by United States.
No wonder there so hated as a country. It's not fair for many good Americans
Interesting that Robert Kenney tried to destroy Jimmy Hoffa and break the AFofL/CIO. Robert Kennedy leader of the people of the working class?? The Democrats got us into the Vietnam War. Even though General Abrams built up the S. Vietnamese army so it successfully defeated General Giap in 1972 the Democrats cutt off all aid to S. Vietnam sealing its fate. Incredible. R.and Ted Kennedy are of the rich. they are political hacks.
Costa Rica was democratically elected as a communist nation in the 1950's. Del Monte has a financial interest in its plantation in Costa Rica and felt the threat of nationalization of the land there. Soon after, US intervened and ousted Costa Rica's leader and put in place a dictator who is a puppet of Washington. We, Americans, are so ignorant of our dirty past. Forget the part about democracy. Democracy is run by those who benefit from colonization and exploitation.
very moving, if only I met more intuitive Viet Kieu, that might step back from the history of Americans, and even the history of their parents and take the war into perspective, many are reluctant to deal with it, because of the bitterness and open-wounds it causes for others of that generation. I think that is partly what has silenced this generation's voice from dealing with the current war.
3.4 million vietnamese civilians were killed during this war. All because the USA could not tolerate the fact that an election between Ho Chi Mihn and the south vietnamese dictator would be held. The Communists would have won with an overwhelming majority and 3.4 million people would still have had their family...
But no, freedom is what we're all about?
Just stop preaching the word freedom when you cant allow others to have theirs.
You mean your quote is to apply to our present time how Bush believes that wire tapping without a court order is necessary for security purposes. How pre-emptive strike against Iraq is totally necessary. How continue the war in Iraq though Saddam has nothing to do with 9/11 or terrorists is necessary because if we don't fight them (terrorists) there, we will have to fight them here. I am sure Ben Franklin would agree if he were alive now that Bush is just selling us scare tactics.
We can throw around statistics, but how many numbers do you need to justify murder. We can preach about freedom and what is the true meaning. But how many words do we need to justify the morality of men. They say actions are stronger than words but lately actions have struck the strongest sorrow into hearts of the innocent. If we can all make a difference, because actions do speak louder than words but its the choice of your actions that define you as a person
you're the first Vietnamese I've met who really had a critical view of the war, from what we've been taught in America. I was a half-Vietnamese soldier who refused to fight in Iraq, because I was a student of Foreign Affairs, when considering our past and so-called "intervention" and "bringing democracy" to other countries, didn't Vietnam plea to be recognized as a democratic country after ousting the French.
correct after we fought off the french. We did plea for being known as a country with democracy. This also didnt go to well with the communist party though
long-before the Communist party came, HCM said his reasons for becoming a communist was because they were the only people who could sympathize with the struggle of his own. He tried to appeal to Woodrow Wilson & Eisenhower after defeating the French, Wilson was a white supremacist (look it up.) and even the great general/president Eisenhower, who prob. would've never gotten us into Vietnam, would've seen how it perpetuated the military industrial complex that he warned of the U.S. succumbing to
To go back in time, shortly after the French were ousted, Ho Chi Minh (HCM) initially asked the Americans for help to build Vietnam into a democratic nation. US turned its back on HCM. He soon received supported from the Russians.
To go back even further, hcm had asked the US to recognize and assist him and his country at the end of WWII. But the pussy-assed french, being humiliated from WWII, did not want to give VN. it's independence and instead reoccupied VN. to regain france's colony in Indohina.
What kind of hypocritical shit is that??!! The fucking french just threw off the Nazi shackles and right away moved to re-enslave the Vietnamese with a war that lasted from '45 until the next french humiliation of '54.
When we talk about WMDs, didn't the U.S. use Agent Orange, and continue to use White PHOSOPHORUS BOMBS (in Shock & Awe) in invading Iraq, despite these being banned by Geneva Conventions. There are too many double-standards. I like your documentary, I highly recommend you see "Vietnam: In the Year of the Pig." it's a really controversial doc, that got the director put on Nixon's most wanted list.
It took over ten years for the American govt to admit the Agent Orange was in fact causing health disabilty to its troops who served in Vietnam. Yet, it never admitted that the agent orange caused serious harm including physical disability to the Vietnamese and their future generations.
So fuck-em! If they were so worried about their safety then they would've sued for peace. But did they? Not! They continued to buildup and attack. So FUCK-EM I SAY!!!

"War crime" is like saying bad bad. War by itself is a crime. Why adding crime to that? pathetic.

No its not like saying bad bad.

Only death.

Wake up.

War should be kept only to soldiers, unfortunately that does not happen.
brokenangel49 3 years ago 7
As Eisenhower warned, the military/industrial complex will ensure that we are in a major war at least every 20 years. The total ramifications of that are mind boggling, but of course, it always benefits the wealthy.
anhacus 3 years ago 3

War crimes was another addition.

this video is a total waste of time. it has no point other than to say people get hurt in wars. no fucking duh! you are a 10 year old brain surgeon! if you really want to know what was at stake in Nam then study communist tactics for the spread of their empire, maybe then you will understand that the only way to have absolute peace is to surrender.
freakboynv2000 3 years ago
yeah people get hurt in wars u've just stated the obvious not I. , but see do you really acknowledge their deaths, not just American soldiers, but farmers, south Vietnamese north Vietnamese. But war particularly the Vietnam war gave soldiers the false sense of justice when a crime is taken to an extreme. Go rent "hearts and minds" read some books. Dont tell about communist tactics my dad is a vietnam war veteran, half of my family were killed by communists, including my older sister.

Democracy is run by those who benefit from colonization and exploitation.
whyicare 4 years ago
very moving, if only I met more intuitive Viet Kieu, that might step back from the history of Americans, and even the history of their parents and take the war into perspective, many are reluctant to deal with it, because of the bitterness and open-wounds it causes for others of that generation.

Midgert89 4 years ago 3
let me reply to you with a quote that you would do well to memorize:
"They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security"
HealeyIRA5 4 years ago
You mean your quote is to apply to our present time how Bush believes that wire tapping without a court order is necessary for security purposes. How pre-emptive strike against Iraq is totally necessary. How continue the war in Iraq though Saddam has nothing to do with 9/11 or terrorists is necessary because if we don't fight them (terrorists) there, we will have to fight them here. I am sure Ben Franklin would agree if he were alive now that Bush is just selling us scare tactics.
whyicare 4 years ago 2
We can throw around statistics, but how many numbers do you need to justify murder. We can preach about freedom and what is the true meaning. But how many words do we need to justify the morality of men. They say actions are stronger than words but lately actions have struck the strongest sorrow into hearts of the innocent. If we can all make a difference, because actions do speak louder than words but its the choice of your actions that define you as a person
jasoneses 4 years ago
you're the first Vietnamese I've met who really had a critical view of the war, from what we've been taught in America. I was a half-Vietnamese soldier who refused to fight in Iraq, because I was a student of Foreign Affairs, when considering our past and so-called "intervention" and "bringing democracy" to other countries, didn't Vietnam plea to be recognized as a democratic country after ousting the French.
longan24 4 years ago
correct after we fought off the french. We did plea for being known as a country with democracy. This also didnt go to well with the communist party though
jasoneses 4 years ago
long-before the Communist party came, HCM said his reasons for becoming a communist was because they were the only people who could sympathize with the struggle of his own. He tried to appeal to Woodrow Wilson & Eisenhower after defeating the French, Wilson was a white supremacist (look it up.) and even the great general/president Eisenhower, who prob. would've never gotten us into Vietnam, would've seen how it perpetuated the military industrial complex that he warned of the U.S. succumbing to
longan24 4 years ago
To go back in time, shortly after the French were ousted, Ho Chi Minh (HCM) initially asked the Americans for help to build Vietnam into a democratic nation. US turned its back on HCM. He soon received supported from the Russians.
whyicare 4 years ago

I like your documentary, I highly recommend you see "Vietnam: In the Year of the Pig." it's a really controversial doc, that got the director put on Nixon's most wanted list.
longan24 4 years ago
It took over ten years for the American govt to admit the Agent Orange was in fact causing health disabilty to its troops who served in Vietnam. Yet, it never admitted that the agent orange caused serious harm including physical disability to the Vietnamese and their future generations.
