  • Well, I live in Chattanooga, TN, but any time you're in the area, just let me know, and I'd be glad to jam with you!

  • I wonder how old this song is. My dad used to sing this to me. He still does, lol!

    Sounds like an old hymn.

  • This song goes back a long way. These old songs can't be beat. Excellent performance.

  • *** Thank you so much for posting "LIFE'S RAILWAY TO HEAVEN" I always love hearing it. Living in NYC it's difficult to find such honest performances of old C&W & Gospel. Lenny NYC

  • No problem! I've always loved this song. It just took me forever to memorize the lyrics!

  • Great

  • Hi Jack .. this is a great song.. its the same tune that is used to a song sung here called Union Miners.. 5*s.. some notes said something about 1890 tune? Mike

  • Here's one note I found on this song:

ELIZA R. SNOW WROTE THE POETIC VERSES TO THIS OLD SONG MANY YEARS BEFORE M.E. ABBEY,

A BAPTIST PREACHER, ADDED THE CHORUS.

CHARLES D. TILLMAN WROTE THE MUSIC.

TILLMAN AND ABBEY TOOK THE CREDIT FOR

"LIFE'S RAILWAY TO HEAVEN" IN 1918 WHEN THEY FILLED A COPYRIGHT ON THE SONG.

ELIZA SNOW WAS NOT MENTIONED IN THE DOCUMENT.

  • Here is another:

The origin of this song is murky. Eliza R. Snow may have written the original lyrics, with M. E. Abbey (a Baptist minister in Georgia in the 1890s) supplying the chorus. There is a similar poem/hymn by Snow, called "Truth Reflects upon Our Senses," which Tillman put to this same tune in 1909.

  • (*****) I am constantly replaying your rendition of "Life's Railway To Heaven" It is Excellent Your Feeling & Talent shine through. I grew up listening to Patsy Cline. Lenny W. NYC

  • I'm glad you like my rendition. As to my feeling and talent, may God's name be glorified! I didn't discover Patsy Cline until many years after she died. Blessings on you!

  • I love that song, but had forgotten about it. We used to listen to it on the radio when I was a kid. You did a great job on this one! Fav.

Your clothes, hair & glasses match your guitar!

  • Hi Mary!

I knew my shirt went with my pants, but the rest was purely serendipitous! I guess it depends on what time of day I record as to the lighting effect! In this case, it kind of looks like there's a soft orange filter that just sort of blends everything together!

I'm glad to be the one to remind you of this wonderful song! I guess it may have seemed more relevant in the days when trains were one of the main modes of transportation, but I just love railroad songs!

    Blessings on you!

  • great performance; I really enjoy this song. it gives us joy and hope. thanks for that Jack,

  • Indeed! You're welcome! Thanks for watching!

  • great groove, fun song and good performance

    love the guitar sound

    so full

    Chris

  • Thanks Chris! As for the groove, I was going for a kind of train track sort of rhythm. I would have used a pick, but it wore me out with this rhythm. It was much easier just to strum with fingers and thumb, and pick out the melody with my index finger! Glad you liked it!

  • Good job!

  • Jack, other beautifull song!

    Very nice!

  • Go for it brother - Just Briliant.

  • Let His glory be praised!

  • Thanks so much again Jack for all the music and God Bless!
