@xrictinaaa1 Well technically now she would get deducted for her foot scraping and he legs coming apart in one of the beginning moves and her hop in her landing. But back then it wasn't as picky. I think thats what she means. Everything in gymnastics is a lot different now. So yes she clearly did get a perfect 10 in the 70's. And there is no need to re evaluate her routine. But with everyone jumping the gun on this, I felt the need as a current gymnastics judge to explain the difference.

Well actually this was not the first perfect 10. It was the first perfect 10 at the Olympic games but another gymnast got two 10's at the world championships in 1967. They should be publicly recognized as well.

I can also say, that if the gymnasts of today would have tried to compete against her and her fellow gymnast colleague's in that time they would all crap their pants and would look like noobs.

Most athletes at that time would have performed while they wore injured, because back then life was much harder, nowadays the advanced technology provides better equipment and better conditions, which helps to give a more complicated performance. Not to mention fair play..

As a little girl, it was Nadia that made us all want to be gymnists. Add in Mary Lou Retton, just 8 years later, and gymnastics was THE sport for us girls. We would watch the movie NADIA on tv every year, practice in the grass at recess, and live and breathe gymnastics. It's so sad that they've changed the scoring to the point that no one knows what's going on and we will never see a 9.9 or a perfect 10 again. :( this is why gymnastics is no longer popular despite having the 1-2 spots in 2008
