@gloomer2415 Best free? How can you even compare this to the others who are merely perpetuating the crime called Microsoft? Just dont buy anything that runs on Microsoft to show your support. It is just that easy. Then the developers will convert. Then could have a Linux version in a matter of days, but dont, because they are sucking Microsoft prong.
As usual, clean sounds are decent, but crunchy and distorted sounds are awful. This is pretty normal, given that Guitar Rig 1.0 and all the older Line6 PODs suffered from the same issue. I'd like to encourage the developers of this software... Please keep working, because the world really CRAVES for a good guitar processing software under Linux!
Check my channel and listen to a few of my recent ones. I alternate between Amplitube 3 and VSThost running Guitar Rig 4 through Revalver's impulse loader. And this is with a 16-bit Aureal card from 1999, a squier strat with microphonic pickups, and a preamp with no DI-box. I know I suck at guitar but the sound quality is in a whole different league.
sorry but the dists sound like a cheap zoom I had a while ago. And, to be honest, the effects too. Good to have this on linux but do not compare it with guitar rig 3 please.
@dirtpezz its open source.... you can compile the sources in visual studio... somehow.... it would be much easier to make a virtual machine of ubuntu and synaptic the fuck out of the audio packages. this requires rakarrack obviously, jackd, and qjackctl i have metronomes and tunders that work through jack also. fmit, and gtklick.... and yes visual of the prog blows but theres tons of functionality to it including adding your own effects and rearranging the effect chain.
@analyzingfunny its in the synaptic repositories. you can build it from source but if your asking me to wrap it into a deb file that will be over your head. im running linux from scratch but i have an ubuntu vm that i can load real quick to tell you what you need. "qjackctl" "jackd" "rakarrack" rakarrack is JACK ONLY!! you need to run "qjackctl" to patch your sound in to rakarrack. you then also need to patch rakarrack to your soundboards out. you have to have jack running to even load up
you can compile sources on macs using gcc the same way you would do so for linux. compiling sources is usually over peoples heads unless they have read several manuals and messaged such crazy information into the brain. synaptic is as simple as point and click, hence why im suggesting ubuntu on virtual box to noobs.
ubuntu is as simple as "synaptic > jackd, qjackctl, rakarrack, realtime kernel, virtual box additions"
i know that those are not free, but i think it is better to buy something that is good than to work with something that really sucks like rackarack. i tested guitar rig and rackarack and i can say that rackarack sucks! the clean sound might be okay but if you want to add distortion or crunch....forget it!
Come on guys, his color scheme sucks but normally Rakarrack comes with a "darkish" interface that doesn't look like this mess.

Best free guitar software!
Usually I use cabinet simulator, reverb, delay & phaser. Sometimes pitch shifter.
With any real distortion - (soldano slo 100 preamp) sounds great.
It`s possible to run rakarrack without GUI in console %)

i actually much prefer hardware effects over software, but thats my inner rock star screaming out

this just kicks so much ass and takes so many names. it is only a matter of time before we model our own amp/effects

ii wish i had some kind of midi foot switch (very cheap) to control rakarrak then i wouldn't need anything else.

I think I get better distortion by cranking my preamp to the point that clipping occurs. it's an adorable try though.

i get really nice metal tones running the acmebargig plugins in ardourVST

@ninjahimself I can get it loaded. Can you make it easy for us by making it a package install?

well i found out that there are way better versions for windows/mac
like guitar rig,amplitube,revalver....
you can´t even compare them with rakarrack!

does this stuff sound good with a bass guitar?
JesusOfDarkness 2 years ago
Good attempt but not really impressed and certainly not a Guitar Rig alternative. The overdrive and distortion sound really bad to my ears.

Rakarrack is great. I started using it recently and it gets the job done. Sure beats trying to collect a lot of expensive pedals.

it actually sounds better than i thought it would... but GUI is HORRIBLE!
